I owe you an apology. When I had last checked the site, he was listed 6'3" and 215 there. It's since been updated to 6'4" and 220, so that's what I'll give him credit for in the QB thread.
Man I loved Marcus Williams. One of the most underrated players in the entire draft by far. I'm really excited to see him experience such rapid success.
This makes me think the Browns have focused way too hard on acquiring draft picks if all they're going to do is continue to accumulate draft picks or use them on players. If I'm in the front office I'm probably A) anticipating Hue Jackson's necessary relieving of his duties, and B) looking at packaging those picks to trade for various veterans in positions of need. The season isn't over yet, but if the Browns continue to hold the first overall pick until the end of the season, obviously I would spend it on a QB who I would not want to start right away, but nonetheless has the tools and the intangibles necessary to put a fire under this team. He'd be easy to hate for me as a Steelers fan if he played for the Browns, but Baker Mayfield has those intangibles which are sorely lacking in the majority of his peers. The remainder of those picks would be fair game for me to offer for a true center-fielder at safety, a hard-nosed linebacker, possibly a true #1 WR, and a veteran QB. I'm sorry, but if the locker room is that bad, then Kizer needs to leave with Hue. Forget trying to salvage anything out of him if all he'll be is a mopey cancer to whoever he's behind on the depth chart.
I disagree... I believe that Haslem has to get Hue on track. He should have never been allowed to run the whole show..AND the whole offense. It simply doesn't work. He is clearly in over his head, but that doesn't mean that it cannot be salvaged. I would sit him down the night after the Steelers game and set an agenda for his post season. First, reflect on the past two years, the mistakes that have been plenty. What caused those mistakes? Could they have been remedied by simply having more help? What is his long term expectations, is it to be a successful HC or a successful OC, because they DO NOT go hand in hand? He needs to make a choice, if it is to be a successful HC, then he needs to hire a competent OC (or promote from within) and give him ALL LEEWAY afforded to every other competent OC in this league. That means, as the HC, he stays out of his way and doesn't even attempt to interfere in the running of the offense. If he decides he wants to be the next innovator of offense in the National Football League, then wish him luck and relieve him of duties in Cleveland. Promote from within and continue the process. Personally, I am not in favor of promoting Gregg Williams to the HC position, because I think he is exactly like Hue, he would want control of the defense, while attempting to run the team at the same time. They need someone that is goal oriented in making each aspect of the team run efficiently and spend 75% of their time preparing for game day management. Let the OCs do their job and stay out of their way.

I cant believe you want Hue Jackson coaching this football team....what has convinced you he can lead any team to the promise land?
Has Jimmy Haslam - who's inching closer and closer to prison time in the Pilot/Flying J case - shown the ability to do that? I don't disagree with what you laid out there. I just wonder if we have the right people in place to execute. Best case scenario is to pull everyone into a room when they introduce Peyton Manning as the new Team President. Explain the shift in org. structure and give both the current F/O and coaching staff the appropriate dressing-down. Relieve Paul DePodesta of his duties (@Lyman) and announce the hiring of two new people: a qualified offensive coordinator and true general manager with football experience. And yes, I think someone other than Hue Jackson has to make the hire at offensive coordinator simply because Hue could hire a "yes man" or someone who'd be a puppet coordinator for him. He can absolutely have input into the decision, but he cannot have the final say. Likewise, the GM needs to be hired by the Team President as well and while Sashi and Andrew Berry can have a say, they should not have the final decision. Ryan Grigson should be relieved of duties simply because he was awful in his time at Indianapolis and if he's got any clout currently, it's not football experience I want this team relying on.
Actually, I think that's a solid selling point. Haslam can offer Peyton what a lot of other owners won't - an ownership stake in the team. If he's due to lose it (or spend time in jail) it makes sense to give part-ownership to another party and as has been the case for the past two seasons, let his wife continue to essential run the organization as the defacto owner.
What has convinced you anyone else coming in would? They need to learn and grown and be consistent. That will lead to more growth than changing regimes every two years...
What growth have we seen under this coach? I'm convinced that a new hire would absolutely be better because in NFL history, nobody has ever been as bad as Hue Jackson. His record speaks for itself. Couple that with all the questionable gameday decisions, and QB fails he's had already, and it seems pretty obvious. Hue deserves to be fired.... The Browns are definitely consistent. If that's the goal, Hue is on some kind of roll... I'm with stopper. I'm amazed anybody is still in this man's corner....I understand we want continuity, but Hue's version of that has had this team in a death spiral for two seasons...The man has failed in epic fashion.
I can't believe you guys actually read the "Haslim Tapes" article posted in here and have jumped to the conclusion that Haslam's going to jail. Per the article itself, the tape recording was the result of a suspect in the case that had been wired by the FBI. "Someone" on the tape said that Haslam knew all about it - mind you, it wasn't Haslim himself as he wasn't even part of the recorded conversation. If there was any substance to that claim, as the FBI has had this tape since early on in the investigation, then why hasn't Haslam already been indicted? This is just another click bait article with Haslam's name in the title to generate more clicks.
Nobody has ever had this roster to deal with either... Look, I outlined the issues I would need resolved for him to stay...but what I am convinced is that if you start all over, YOU and STOPPER and many others will be calling for the next guys head in two years from today....I am freaking sick of starting over. The guy can coach, he has 17 years of NFL coaching experience. Just as a player needs to develop, so do HC's imho. You can wait out his learning curve as long as he makes the adjustments in needs...namely an OC. Keeping him here as the HC and giving up all offensive duties, imo, would go a long way in player development AND his development. He is doing way too much which is effecting his performance. As HC, he shouldn't have a "QB fail" to his name. That is on the coaches, again, it was his call to take on that responsibility and he does hold accountability...don't get me wrong...But, I do think he can remedy that issue and that starts with the promotion/hire of an offensive coordinator. Take offense off the table and he can grow into the position, which will lead to better game day decisions. The record is not on one man, it is on approximately 75 men and women in the organization that have direct decisions and daily interaction with the team.
If we had an average coach, that didn't miss on every good QB, we'd be in the hunt....Put Carson Wentz under center and give us a competent coach, and we'd be AFC contenders. I know Sashi has final say, so it's on him too obviously, but Hue didn't want Wentz. Had he emphatically pushed for him like he should have, Wentz would likely be our QB..Look how many winnable games we've lost. We lose because of our coach and our QB. Or our failure to actually have an NFL caliber QB on the roster, depending on how ya look at it. Either way, that's all on Hue. He is the QB advisor to Sashi. HUE was going to find us a quarterback. That's what we were told.... We don't lose because the fringe players and the traveling secretary aren't as good as New England's or whomever. We are capable of competitive football, with the exception of our QB and coach, and that's why we lose with remarkable consistency........The right coach can make a world of difference, and we have nowhere to go but up. We don't have to agree. Unless we win some games down the stretch, which obviously seems unlikely, I'll be shocked if Jackson retains his job.
First, let admit "I'm a continuity first guy". Hue has not been as advertised "a QB whisperer". In fact he's been about as bad at choosing and or developing QBs as I can recall. That said, last year was basically "by design" fail. RG111 may be on Hue, but Joe Mantana wasn't going to win on the team the FO put together. The failur there was on the FO. Hue can take the specific blame for RG111, but it doesn't amount to much. Failure #2, on a grand scale is allowing this team to go into this season with a whopping 2 years of NFL QB experience. (if you can credit Kessler and Hogan's time here last year as experience) Stupid. Dumb. Short Sighted. Whatever adjective you want to use, remarkably lacking in strategic thinking. Hue made it worse, by naming Kizer the starter. If that wasn't bad enough, he then, after losing his only real WR, abandons the Run game, placing even more pressure on his QB. Not surprisingly he failed. So it's been a combined effort. Like it or not, they've held hands and walked into this shitstorm together. Overarching all of this is Organizational Structure Issues which are continually showing up: Haslam has created a "reporting structure" that doesn't just allow two warring factions to point fingers, but encourages it. BAD. I agree with Irish, Hue has to be made to hire a true OC, and accept the HC reaponsibilities, and IMO Haslam needs a Top Man to oversee the FO/Coaching Staff/Recruiting/Cap/Draft/Whatever and take Halsam out of the position of choosing winners and losers of the blame game. Make those two moves, get some experience in the QB room, and let's see what this team can do. I think 2018 is going to be a Huge step forward. Hue has to "prove" he can be a HC, and it's on Haslam that we've gone two years without having found that out, but just the same, I think we don't have the answer, because he hasn't insisted Hue be one. 2016 was a FO decision to not be competitive. 2017 was a "failure at the top" again, by setting up a QB situation to fail. Haslam would do his team a huge favor by naming a Senior Executive to act as a "Go Between" and get himself out of the postion of choosing winners and losers in the structure. Having his top guys all reporting to him, doesn't just create a finger pointing environment, it encourages it, and has to stop. One mans opinion.
The only consistent I have seen is LOSING.....no progress, cant score pts, now the notion the locker room is a complete joke....move on...the reason they make the move every 2 yrs is cause they havnt found the right coach
False....Jerry Jones runs the Cowboys...they released Romo their prime QB for yrs and went w a rookie QB and RB.....13-3 record....there is no way this falls on Haslam for all these losses....Hue supposedly found his guy w Kessler...his quote on "trust me," now Kizer is they guy and he hasnt shown improvement over 10 games
