2017 Season The Good, Bad and Ugly

  1. You do know Collins left the game w 10 mins left in 1Q?

Yes and the Browns went up 10-0 to start the game, only to fall apart and give up 31 points after he left...What's your point?

Lions first series, 3 and out -13 yards
Browns, drove for a FG on a short field
Lions second series 5 plays for 5 yards, Interception by Collins, he was hurt on the play.
Browns drive 3 plays 31 yards for TD
    Go up 10-0...

Then the Lions consecutive drives 47 yards for a FG and 90 yards for a TD to tie the game at 10, without Collins.

First Qtr, Lions had 39 yards of total offense, Collins was in for all but one drive, that drive that he was out went for 47 yards, while he was in on (2) drives they gained -7 yards
Second Qtr they had 85 yards of total offense
Third Qtr they had 102 yards of total offense
Forth Qtr they had 109 yards of total offense

So with Collins on (2) drives -7 yards of offense
Without Collins 8 drives (not counting the two play kneel down to end the game which accounted for -2 yards) the Lions accrued 335 yards or 37 yards per drive.

Now, I'm not saying it all fell apart only BECAUSE of the absence of Collins, not at all...but, he sure as hell has been a contributor on this defense this year and they looked to be in total control before he left, they didn't know which way was up after he left, which tells me his leadership may have been missed.

  3. What Im trying to say is it was 5 mins into the game.....there are 60 mins to a game so whether Collins played the last 55 mins we have no idea what wuld have happened...now if you told me after 3Qs they were dominating and the Lions scored 21 pts in 4Q I can understand that

No, I get you... and I don't totally disagree, but he may be a bigger leader than we thought in the past. I just hope the type of play that we saw in the other 3 quarters doesn't become the staple.

Thanks Stopper. I didn't know that.

Collins isn't superman, but it sure seems like he was super missed. When have the Browns been beaten so badly in the running game?

Big Picture: if Browns get the TD at the half, and DeValve doesn't fumble, it's a game. And do I think Collins might have been the difference maker, yeah.

My biggest concern is exactly what Irish posted: is this the D we will see without his leadership? If that's the case we lock up number 1.

  8. He has already missed games w a concussion and I didnt see that argument....its not like hes a QB that handles the ball every snap

Take that one step further. All we would have needed at the end of the 4th quarter to WIN was a field goal. No need for Kizer to toss the game ending int.

This is the difference between the Browns and a contending team. Teams like the Steelers don't draft starters. They draft quality backups that grow into starters 2 to 3 years down the road.

And, OBTW, we have virtually locked up the #1 overall pick. The only way we don't pick #1 is to win two games this year. I personallly don't see one win this year.

    Question...

    We are projected to have the following picks: 1, 8, 33, 39, 64, 65.

Browns were about to trade #33 and #65 to Cincinnati for a backup quarterback. Those picks get us to #21 overall in a fair trade.

Houston and Phily's pick (which almost assuredly will be higher than 64) can get us to #22 overall (right now) in a fair trade.

You say not to draft starters... but with the option of turning six picks into four first rounders... would you? All four would almost assuredly be starters and make the team appreciably better.

First . . . I didn't say you don't draft starters. I said contending teams draft quality backups that turn into starters 2 to 3 years down the road. Why? Because contending teams already have their starters in place.

Second . . . Four 1st round players would, no doubt, become starters ON THIS TEAM. That doesn't mean that they can successfully compete against veterans on opposing teams. I'll spare you the list of Browns' 1st round picks who became starters but couldn't even shag punts on a contending team.

Third . . . Contending teams NEVER have $100M in salary cap space. Why? Other than because they are paying for a franchise QB, they groom their draftees to become starters and then re-sign them at a higher salary.

You want to draft Baker Mayfield? Go ahead! But only if you first part with some of that $100M and sign Kirk Cousins as the starter. Then you have 4 years to groom and develop Mayfield to become the starter. (and then re-sign him!)

Is it a little concerning that the name category is "human" and not "QB"?

    Not Browns related, but...

Things going from bad to worse for the Buccaneers.

    Ugly

    How about this?

Duke Johnson Jr. averaged 5.0 YPC. Also, this...

    Hue must go.

  18. Great so a guy gets 2 carries w a long of 7 yds and u figure its 5.0 ypc every time.....this OL is SAWFT lol

  19. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

You're just going to ignore that second part, huh?

  20. Im gonna agree w Hue for maybe the 1st time...getting 13 carries and rushing for 28 yds doesnt make me want to run the ball
