After Further Review: My Thoughts on the Cunningham Play

Last week, Zack Miller made an amazing 1-handed TD catch.

It was called a TD on the field.

NY overturned it. After several experts came out and noted the call from NY was a bad call, NY hit back and defended the call. I have seen just about every single camera angle you can possibly watch. And in ZERO of them, can you see the ball even remotely grazing the turf.

The truth is, there is no video proof whatsoever that the ball hit. More, there is video proof it didn't.

And yet, the call on the field was overturned. The rule states that there most be concrete video evidence to overturn a call on the field. This did not exist.

Today, we watched a call on the field, again, get overturned. The call was that Cunningham stepped out of bounds before hitting the cone with the ball.

Video evidence clearly shows that the call on the field was CORRECT. The truth is he clearly DID touch a foot out of bounds before hitting the cone. More? He clearly touched that foot out before he lost control of the ball.

Now, we can debate whether Fox should have thrown the red flag or not for days. But, what is inexcusable is that they did not uphold the call on the field - and while doing so, added an additional ruling - with clear evidence that the call on the filed was correct. And to be clear, when they changed the "result of the play", that was in fact, making a new ruling.

They ruled that he lost control of the ball and DIDN'T go out of bounds. When, in fact, he DID.

And yes, the proof is out there.

So the refs pretended to see something that never actually happened. Again. 2 weeks in a row.

I'm not claiming a conspiracy theory against the Bears. But I do think that there is some definitive favortism given to some teams - for some reason.

This sport/league is going downhill fast.

The refs weren't saying the ball grazed the ground. They were saying that he let go of the ball at the end before he completed the catch completely. BS but that is what they are saying.

    You may be right....

The explanation given on the field by the NFL was that the ball was moving (it was) and touched the ground (it didn't).

So, you're saying that the cal was he was in pain and couldn't stand up, and put the ball down, so it wasn't a catch???

This is kinda what I was basing it on:

Don't care and not worth discussing. Even if they had called it a TD I guarantee that we still lose the game.

Screenshot_20171101-210843.jpg For those who dont watch the video, that's a frame from the NFLs official video regarding the matter. That's the indisputable evidence that the ball hit the ground.

The funny thing is the thing he is pointing to, was proven by subsequent images, that it wasn't the ball.

This douche bag fucked up the call, (for what ever reason), and then lied to the entire fucking world in a cover up.

    And got caught.

According to where this douchenugget draws the arrow Zach Miller should have more than just problems with his leg because his arm must of stretched 12 inches out of it's fucking socket.
Funny how they don't show the following frames and end it right there.

The NFL has the worst officiating and rules out of the four major sports.

They still don't know what a catch is and these rules don't stand up to any kind of logic.

From the Calvin Johnson play to the Dez Bryant play and Zach Miller...and all the ones in between because there have been plenty....it's a god damn joke. Too many games have been altered by bad calls and bad rules.

I totally thought Cunningham was out of bounds before he lost control of the ball. And I still find it odd that they say indisputable evidence that he wasn't....because that's what it takes to change a call. Just like the Miller overturn....I don't clearly see indisputable evidence. And there's no way that fat bastard in the video the NFL released on the Miller play does either.

I watched the Cunningham play from the bar, with no sound. I was close to the TV and had a good view. I watched it and thought, "His knee is down before the ball hits the pylon. Hell, it kinda looks like the ball comes out just after his knee is down, anyway. There's no way this is a TD. Balls". I wondered why they were taking so long reviewing the call.

Then, all of a sudden, the Packers have the ball at the 20. It took me a minute to piece together what had just happened, and what they must have decided. I couldn't fucking believe it. The shit has to stop.

Sure, I don't watch football because I work on the weekends.
Sure, I don't watch football because my Bears are more depressing than not.
But I also don't watch football because the product, in general, only continues to get worse. It's just not an enjoyable experience, anymore. They've gotta get this shit straightened out.

dline that's exactly what I first thought. I saw his knee down and thought it just short. What I didn't notice at the time that his toe might of been out first before losing control of the ball, but that was inconclusive and that is what should of been called on the field.

Ball still in his hand, toe out of bounds. Conclusive. Ball should have been spotted 6" off the goal line.

It’s hard to tell if he has control on that angle.
I’d say there were no definitive angles that showed both the ball coming out AND the knee/foot out of bounds. For that reason alone, the play should NEVER have been overturned.

The rule itself is asinine though. Why the fuck would the other team get possession if the player fumbles out of the end zone? Makes no sense.

If the fumbling team fumbles out of bounds between the goal lines, they retain possession. If a recovering team player doesn’t establish possession inbounds jumping on a fumble, the fumbling team retains possession.

So why the fuck would an end zone fumble result in a turnover when the other team never has to actually even get near it, much less possess it. It’s a fucked up rule and it needs to go.

I thought the same way, and I wonder if this was changed back in the 70's when the Raiders tried advancing a loose ball (forward fumble) by pushing into the endzone for a TD.
I thought a better solution out of the endzone would be to give it to the team that last possessed it at the 20 not the opposing team.
