    Healy dealt to Mariners...

SEATTLE -- Jerry Dipoto made a habit of moving quickly to fill his offseason wish list during his first two years with Seattle, and the Mariners' general manager is at it again, acquiring young first baseman Ryon Healy from the A's on Wednesday in exchange for right-handed reliever Emilio Pagan and Minor League infielder Alexander Campos.

Healy, 25, put up a .271/.302/.451 slash line with 25 home runs and 78 RBIs in 149 games in 2017 for Oakland in his second season (first full season) in the Majors and is under team control for another five years.

The A's were willing to move Healy after the development of first baseman Matt Olson and third baseman Matt Chapman left him competing for time at DH, where Khris Davis is expected to get more starts in 2018.

When I was a kid, my dad said quite a few things but 2 in particular stand out, "never hit girls" and "never root for the NY Yankees".

the Yankees system is great now because in 5 days last season they dealt chapman, andrew miller and one other player for 11 prospects ! that moved them from 27th to top 3, so their farm system wasn't always so great !

MVP's Altuve, Stanton.....................Votto still no respect.

Altuve won surprisingly easily in balloting done by the Baseball Writers Association of America, while Stanton finished atop the fourth-closest voting in history.

Altuve collected 27 of 30 first-place votes and finished far in front of Yankees rookie Aaron Judge, 405 points to 279. Indians second baseman Jose Ramirez was third with 237.

Stanton edged Reds first baseman Joey Votto, 302-300. D-backs first baseman Paul Goldschmidt was third with 239 votes.

CBS had a great breakdown of Stanton vs Votto. Really too tough to call.

Votto has been getting the shaft for decades now, lol. I dont think he would have expected anything different.

winter meetings are next week or the week after - moves will happen then.

I think the veterans committee HOF vote is announced if they pick someone Dec 10th. I'm rooting for A. Trammell and J. Morris and I'm a Phillies fan.

I know this isn't the busiest time, but still you usually see a lot more action than this a month into FA. Seems like everything's waiting on Stanton and Ohtani to land first.

Another small deal in the meantime:

The Braves announced today that they’ve traded right-hander Jim Johnson to the Angels in exchange for minor league lefty Justin Kelly. The Angels also pick up a yet-undetermined amount of international bonus money in the deal, per each club’s announcement.

    ^wow-who is their closer now?

I think I read somewhere 13 of their prospects were obtained illegally and sent back to the talent pool as punishment. the phils got one of them. never heard of that before.

Yeah and the GM John Copolella got a lifetime ban. MLB really dropped the hammer on them...I remember thinking at the time the Red Sox ran afoul of those rules a couple years ago that they got off light, now I'm sure of it.

Arodys Vizcaino had already taken over as their closer end of last season, I'd imagine he gets first crack at it next year.
