C'mon now. This is just par for the course around here... I argued forever that not matching TP's offer was the dumbest move of our offseason. Looks like the Browns finally realized it. Let me see if I got this straight....TP brought his very reasonable offer from Washington back to Berea, which is unheard of, and he wanted us to match it so he could stay a Cleveland Brown. Sashi , who was somehow offended by TP testing the market for his value, decides not to match the deal, saying "Sorry, that's just not the way we do business"....Fast forward into another season from hell, where the guy we signed to replace Pryor (Kenny Britt) has been an absolute disaster, Corey Coleman gets injured (again), and we lead the world in drops. So with no WR's stepping up at all, and things not going all that great in D.C. for Pryor, we make an effort to trade away commodities trying to get Pryor back from the Redskins, so we can have him back on the same deal we could have had in the first place without trading anything.,...And of course it gets rejected by Washington. Smh...That sounds about right. Only the Browns.... Cue the Benny Hill music....
Good Morning Lounge Hounds. Anybody feeling it today? I'm sure it's just my mental illness (Browns Fandomitus), but I'm feeling like this is our week to turn the tables, and pin one on Detroit. Rationale........ hmmmmm. How about our D is playing "whole" for what feels like the first time this year. Our last game loosely resembled the kind of O most of us expected to see: we ran the ball and threw short passes to let Kizer have a chance to succeed, and avoid sacks and INTs. So why do I believe we can turn that into a W. Well the biggest burden is on the D. If we let Detroit get out front early, Hue will abandon the steady, run / short pass plan, and go with the "seat of the pants, home run game", that we've pretty well proven we aren't ready to play, and go down in flames. If on the other hand the D can keep Stafford under pressure, and not allow the scramble and throw the Big One, we should be able to keep Detroit down. What if we do get pressure consistently, and Stafford puts one up for grabs and the D picks it and turns it into points? That would put even more pressure on Stafford, and if we keep it up, may turn up the QB timeclock in his head, and reduce his effectiveness. The O needs to make first downs, so the D remains fresh, cause Detroit will always be capable of the Big Play, and we can't be so spent on D that we can't keep coming at him in the fourth quarter. Detroit's recipe, is to get up early and watch us implode. A good strategy, that only gets defeated with dominating Defense. I think we get that today. I'm hoping that Kizer benefits from better field position, and Gonzalez gets over the yips, and we make the field goals we will absolutely need. So set up the IV drip Duff, I'm going all in. Wish me luck.
Good luck Kenibals...I hope you're right. Ive stuck my neck out too many times this year. Matt Stafford is one of the more underappreciated QB's in the NFL. He's the king of the 15 to 25 yard rope, and he can put it anywhere on the field he wants to put it. I'm worried for our secondary. Hopefully Lions have a natural letdown playing us after a huge MNF win last week at Lambeau...That's our best chance I think. Maybe they look past us a bit, and make a few mistakes...It could happen. I'm not calling for the upset, but it's about time for a big performance from Njoku. We just haven't gotten the ball to him enough this year, and I'm hoping that's something we emphasized over the bye week. And I think that is the best way to exploit Detroit's defense. Stay away from Darius Slay....
I mentioned this about a let down....this will seem like the Minny game...2nd half will determine the fate...I took the 10-
Pretty jazzed after watching No. 1 overall pick, Baker Mayfield, dominate a good TCU team. TBH, if anyone doesn't think he's a Top 3 pick, they can't evaluate QB talent. But don't take my word for it... Baker Mayfield. No matter what.
I'm not one to pee in the Cheerios (@Lyman) so I'll just continue posting about how freaking awesome Baker Mayfield is.
Well...perhaps a little harsh, but I don't see him as an NFL starter, that's for sure. Hopefully Kizer can snap out of his funk, but when a guy needs 540 condoms, I'm not certain "football" is the main priority anyway...jus sayin.
I meant as a starter. I mean, Brandon Weeden is still in the NFL so until the Kaepernick Ban is lifted, we'll still have garbage backups around the league. He'll never start again - barring injury to an incumbent. He is substantially worse than his most comparable career arc - Jimmy Clausen. He started four games after his rookie season for two different teams and was out of the NFL after his fifth season. LOL - I just assumed since he had our offensive line and was used to near-perfect protection, he was trying to replicate that in his sexual endeavors.
So this is one to watch... Browns defense is going to have its hands full defending the pass. Detroit doesn't run (our defensive strength) but they do throw. A TON. We've got really good corners but some suspect safety play. A fully-healthy Front 7 will be interesting to watch. Do we finally see Gregg Williams dial up pressure and get after Stafford? Offensively, is it possible to run the football exclusively and win a game? Yes. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/195012030cle.htm
SAS...please take it easy w Mayfield....hes playing vs awful defenses almost every week...if you dont score 35 pts in a game you dont have a chance....the last guy you were all over was Barkley and he just rushed for 35 yds vs sorry Rutgers lol
Seth Devalve probably cost us the game yesterday. That was a gut punch that the Browns just couldn't overcome. I think Kizer probably had his best game, but it wasn't good enough. Every once in while he drops a dime in, and he had a few really nice passes, but still he misses far too often. It was painful to watch at times. A couple of his red zone attempts to get it to Njoku were just awful, but I like that he used his legs more this week. Kizer needs to run the ball more. That's his strength. He can keep drives alive by hitting those running lanes when they open up. We aren't good enough to overcome mistakes like Devalve's fumble. Team's always pull away from us in the second half because we shoot ourselves in the foot... If I had to vote for best Browns player yesterday, I'd go with Emanuel Ogbah. We have a real good pair of DE's in Cleveland. Those guys can really disrupt things. They gotta be ready for those hard counts though. My gawd it's easy to get the Browns to jump offside in crucial situations. Just can't have that...
I've had some reservations about Barkley as well. I mentioned that in the Draft Thread. Barkley may be the best RB hitting the draft next year, but that doesn't mean he'll be anything in the NFL. Not too many good RBs coming up in 2018 imo.
Where do we go from here? Hopefully we watch this game film with a lot of intensity. This is the first game since week one, up to the Kizer injury, we were in control. Even the botched end of the first half, didn't matter because they came out of the second half and led two 80+ yard TD drives. That first half play didn't matter at that point. We really missed Jamie Collins when he left the game...Our LB depth if horrible. Collins quietly holds this LB corp together, even if he isn't making 20 plays a game. We need to improve on the depth in the off season all around. Detroit is a good team this year. They are a playoff contender, even though their defense is suspect. The Browns have a chance to steal a few wins in the second half of the season if they continue to grow off of what they did in Detroit yesterday. At this point, I don't want to see regression, I'd like to see them take another step forward like the offense did yesterday.
That statement can be said about EVERY prospect in the draft, and it isn't exclusive to the 2018 draft, it is every single one of them... All you can do is study the film and then try very hard to try and understand what kind of man you are looking at...That may be the single biggest aspect of trying to decide between a group of players.
That's not how I meant that. I understand how that reads. I mean the overall quality looks very thin this year.
