To be clear, I think our receiver group is atrocious. They're definitely not getting a pass from me. I just don't buy that they're considerably worse from last season.
I wouldn't say considerably worse than last season. How about "just as bad, if not worse?" Or maybe we should specify not the talent level but rather their over-all performance. I'm more than willing to attribute more than a few causes to this outcome.
You know the team is in trouble when 4 of your top 5 receivers come from the TE and RB room...I'm sorry to keep harping but the positions are as follows; Wide RECEIVERS Tight Ends RUNNING backs Which of these groups scream "throw the ball to that position"? Historically, RBs run the ball, TEs are extra linemen used to block and WRs are thrown the ball, so that they can catch it. SO, either this is the most confused offense ever, or our wide receivers are just not very good at all...again, they are young, so they have time to grow..but to put all the blame on the QB is misguided imho.
You asked me who they were worse than in the NFL. You also asked me who they were worse than historically. I answered both of these satisfactorily. If you need numbers to support it, here's the wide receivers only from 2009: Massaquoi - 624 Stuckey - 198 Furrey - 170 Edwards - 139 Cribbs - 135 Robiskie - 106 TOTAL - 1,372 / 16 = 85.8 YPG First, @showstopper would agree to disagree with that. Second, not sure anyone supports their posts nearly as thoroughly as I do. Manning is a non-sequitur. He threw 26 touchdowns as a rookie which was fifth-best in the NFL. Makes his 28 interceptions more acceptable. He posted a 4.5% TD ratio and a 4.9% INT ratio. Kizer has thrown three touchdown passes and is on pace for six on the season. His TD ratio is 1.4 and his INT ratio is 5.2. Please stop trying to compare those two.
Now, that's a bad wide receiver group...I stand corrected, these guys might not be the worst in Browns history
For the record, I am not comparing the two, I almost always state that in the post, I must have become laze...All I am stating is that Manning threw an inordinate amount of INTs as a rookie and he ended up becoming one of the greatest ever...I don't in any way shape or form expect or try to state Kizer will become one of the best in the league, let alone ever...All I have said is that you cannot know for a certainty what type of player he will be this early in his career. And you deal in certainties within your posts...
I can't argue that the Robiskie-Massaquoi-Stuckey trio was perhaps worse than our current situation. Which is just mind numbing. What the hell is goin on with this team? Good lord...Props to SAS for even recalling that. What a forgettable line-up of pass catchers that was. This teams' struggles are obviously more than just QB...We seemingly haven't come very far, have we? Yet we hold out hope for the dynamic Josh Gordon/Corey Coleman duo, because we are Browns fans, and that's what we do....Keep those fingers crossed that Josh has put the bong away for good. Except for you Corey Coleman. I don't want you to break a finger... There's obvious potential with those two, but no question, the doubters will be many....
A healthy Coleman and Gordon would make the other receivers so much better. Lewis' natural position is in the slot. He could tear it up in there with those two on the outside. Will make Njoku and / or DeValve better too.
It would be amazing if Coleman and Gordon could live up to their considerable potential....I'm not trying to be pessimistic. Just joking around. It's easier to deal with if you can laugh at it a little bit....Gordon has to prove it. He might as well realize there is no NFL team that needs him more than Cleveland. He seems less than enthusiastic about wanting to play here. I worry about that, but if he can get his act together on the field, like he apparently has off of it, there's plenty to be excited about with Josh Gordon....Corey Coleman has just had fluky bad luck. I really think he'll be okay. Will he be a star, like the #1 WR taken in the draft should? I sure hope so...He has shown flashes, but he obviously can't help us if he can't stay healthy. It really is an exciting tandem. Hopefully something finally works out for the Browns and these two give us hope heading into next season...
Careful talking about Trubisky's accuracy, Irish. I merely mentioned how I disliked the national media's narrative of Trubisky being so accurate and I had Bears Fan in my mentions like I was a Kardashian.
Yeah, Lyman and I have already been down that same road. They are like mosquitoes. You hardly know they are there until they start biting..
So this happened... Priority free agent for the team in 2018? Why is Kenny Britt still on the roster?
Also... I retract the query. This guy is toast... no way I'm trading for what's essentially Tim Couch in his final season as a Brown.
