That's what I read, as well. Kudos to Lynch & Co. on that! He not only landed his QB, but, if both the Browns and the Niners lose out for the rest of the season, he could very well end up with both Jimmy G. - and - the #1 overall pick in the draft.
I can't hammer them too hard if the Patriots never tried to up the ante or create a bidding war. If the deal started moving late in the day, it's even more understandable.
I am not surprised that teams don't like trading with the Browns. Their love of everything of value as far as draft picks makes trading with them frustrating especially when they have few players worth trading for. Browns and their analytical thinking of the roster, whatever it may be, honestly, is not helping relations.
It's just another obvious miss. Why weren't WE the team initiating the final hour talks? It didn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that the Pats had to do something. Garoppolo, throwing to Coleman and Gordon down the stretch for Cleveland, might have delivered us some actual enjoyment on Sunday's for a change...
They sure seem to make a lot of trades, for a team that nobody wants to trade with... And Sashi has made TWO trades directly with New England (Mingo trade, Collins trade). So it just doesn't make sense. I just don't get how we were left out of the Jimmy G talks.... I guess the rumors were true... The Pats were doing Jimmy a favor. They sacrificed a better deal, so they could keep their loyal little soldier out of Cleveland, a.k.a. QB graveyard....smh. sad.
As well as the AFC. Jimmy Garoppolo is 25 turning 26... he's got what, 10 more years if he's a mid-level to above average QB in the League? New England has a window of 2-3 more years probably before Brady's age becomes a deterrent and/or Belicheck walks. That leaves a seven year gap where now you're playing a guy who you traded to a competitor? He reportedly did not want to sign in Cleveland so the Pats, as you said, could have gone to him and said, "where to?" and he picked the 49ers over Cleveland. Echoes back to my point with @IrishDawg42 ... who's going to come here as a free agent QB? Just because we have deep pockets doesn't mean Kirk Cousins is going to choose us over any other suitors.
Another likely suitor for Kirk Cousins, that I didn't even mention earlier, is Denver. I imagine we'll find out soon what Paxton Lynch brings to the table. If it's not enough to please Elway, I can see Denver jumping in to the "Cousins" bidding. In which case, you can almost guarantee he's not going to come here and wear the brown and orange....
I think they have to be considered one of the, if not the, premier team that would go after him. And why would he say no? A broken Peyton Manning cruised to a Super Bowl win with that defense. Just more reason to turn to this guy in the draft...
Mayfield QB Composite Score = Future All Pro This is the No. 1 QB from an analytics standpoint two years in a row (and was third-best as a sophomore).
Let's check with Hue Jackson. Hue! What's the biggest requirement to be a QB in the NFL? Baker Mayfield's career completion percentage: 68.6% Baker Mayfield's completion percentage at Oklahoma: 70.0% Baker Mayfield's completion percentage this season: 71.7% (leads NCAA) (Also led in completion percentage in 2016, 70.9% - he's 12th all-time in NCAA history) Cody Kessler's completion percentage at USC was 67.5% career.
TB needs a new HC...Koetter is TERRIBLE.....Winston playing hurt and they will finally sit him for a couple of weeks
