https://www.yahoo.com/sports/mlb-pl...upporting-waiter-refused-serve-084059948.html AGAIN -his right to take a knee, but the waiters right to not serve him. it all comes full circle people...
Refusing service to a customer because of political differences is not the waiter's right. At all. That's why the owner assigned them another waiter. And presumably fired the other guy's dumb ass. (edit - FTR, not calling him a dumb ass for agreeing with Trump, but for refusing to do the job he was hired to do for a reason that had nothing to do with his ability to do his job or his other customers)
Whatever happened to just spitting in a customer you don't like's food? Everybody's got to make a goddamned spectacle of everything nowadays.
the waiter did what he believed in u dog. he is doing the same thing the player did. he's standing up for what he believes in. u call him a dumb ass bc he lost his job. well he didn't serve the guy either.
Just because they both believed what they were doing was right doesn't mean they were doing the same thing. Kneeling for the anthem (not illegal) and discriminating against a customer (not not illegal) are not the same thing. At all. It's apples and dump trucks. I gotta admit I'm curious to know how the rest of that dude's shift went. He didn't serve Maxwell, but the restaurant still did, so clearly his boss didn't agree what he did was right. Presumably the waiter, if he wasn't fired on the spot, quit in protest because he was doing what was right, right?
u dog - what if the customer wore a Nazi German SS Uniform? Would it still be ok to serve him bc it's the right thing to do ? Or do you stand your ground and not serve him ? to me it's a little crazy not to serve someone who kneels, but that's what they believe in. people are strongly devoted to many things deeper than others. in this case, the waiter believed he was right. his boss thought otherwise.
Not a good comparison...wearing a Nazi uniform would be offensive to other customers (refer back to my first post on the subject), in which case refusing to serve him would be the correct thing to do. Maxwell wasn't bothering anyone else. This was more comparable to him being refused service because he's black. Again, just because the waiter thought he was in the right doesn't mean he was. Hitler thought he was in the right, too.The waiter had no standing to refuse Maxwell service other than disagreeing with his politics. Discrimination is discrimination.
u dog - the entire waiter story is a lie... https://sports.yahoo.com/waiter-all...layer-calls-story-absolute-lie-224811862.html i saw a comment on cbssportsline...if half of the phillies, sixers or eagles were near me at a restaurant, i wouldn't know them. how would a waiter know this MLB player when he's not overly famous? i know it was in a small town, but would he recognize him?? good point.
People say, Its a tough job to be the coach of the Yankees. Boo-Hoo! Where else can you get guaranteed vets a good farm system and constant inflow of endless piles of cash? Some say there is so much pressure to coach the Yankees... well try getting a job in Cincinnati or San Diego and a bunch of other places that don't have a cash flow pipe-line. Joe did well, but NY thinks so highly of themselves, they fire a guy who took them to the ALCS, beating a good Cleveland club, and with a so-so, overrated pitching staff. I dont feel sorry for Joe, just don't like the way the Yankees deal with stuff... but, they can do what they want , of course and i'll still hate them... even if it was the right move.
Justin Upton is staying with the Angels...new 5 year deal. Kind of surprised he didn't opt out, looks like this new deal basically just tacks 1 year and $18MM onto the deal he had originally signed with Detroit, would've thought he could've bettered that on the open market.
Think about it this way, though...Girardi lasted 10 years, Torre lasted 12 before that...compare that to when George was running the show and would change managers 2-3 times a year sometimes...that kind of longevity with managers is pretty unusual, even a good manager with a good roster can still need a shakeup after a while.
Interesting and a good point you bring up. He must be real comfortable there and didn't want the hastle of playing anywhere else other than sunny California, plus he has a good relationship, from what I gather, with the Higher Ups in the Angels organization. A full, no trade clause and $106M in cash... he's set.

Marlins decline option on Ichiro Suzuki The Miami Marlins declined the $2 million club option they had on outfielder Ichiro Suzuki, making him a free agent. Everyone loves the future Hall of Famer, but it’s an open question as to whether he’ll find work this winter. While he was a productive part-timer in 2016, he hit only .255/.318/.332 in 2017. He says he wants to continue playing, but he turned 44 a couple of weeks ago so expecting a bounceback is a bit unrealistic. Still, it’s not hard to imagine someone giving him a minor league deal to see if he has anything left in the tank come February.
