Pats peddle Jimmy Garapolo to the Niners for a second. Beware QB's that Bill is willing to move. Then again, he may be the best backup ever in NE.
Wow.... Kirk Cousins will hit the market this off-season. Outstanding move by the 49ers at a much cheaper price than a lot of people would have anticipated.
That is crazy. 49ers probably told the Pats that it's a risky move to try to trade him in the offseason, especially with the tag in play. A very early 2nd round pick going to NE. I too wonder what this means for Cousins. I don't think the 49ers would be interested unless they play Jimmy and rule he is not the QB before the season ends.
FYI the Pats waited and likely missed out on some minor draft picks. The Browns offered their early 2nd and change. Pats played hardball. Both lost.
New England now has a QB issue but the problem is the timing. They can't afford to keep a promising QB past his rookie deal if they are still playing Brady. They need to go and try to find another guy that can be ready towards the end of his rookie deal if Brady is done.
No one has said it was the early second, only a second rounder and change. This regime more likely offered the #52 pick(which was still higher than the one the Patriots used on him #62) and a 5th or 6th for good measure.
The issue will be resolved quickly with a signing of Brian Hoyer...then, I agree, another high draft pick, possibly the pick they just acquired, on another QB in waiting. They had multiple years to evaluate both Garoppolo and Brissett as possible replacements to Brady and neither seem to be worthy. So, try again and hope Brady lasts long enough to get him ready.
Nothing to do with being worthy or not. It's logistics. The demand on Jimmy was too high and the cost and risk to either keep or hold out for a bigger offer was way too high. He had to go for no other reason than because Brady is still the starter and going strong. They couldn't afford to have him as a backup. They'll try to find and groom a new QB and hope he is good and maybe then they will be able to move on to a 2nd lucrative contract with Brady gone.
I can't disagree with that line of thinking. However, it is a BIG risk if you deem either as worthy of taking over when Brady leaves. We aren't talking about a 37 year old Brady who is early in his relationship with Gisele...We are talking about a 41 year old Brady, who has a VERY outspoken wife that makes it publicly known at every chance she gets that she is ready for her husband to retire before getting hurt in his ripe age...He could bow to her wishes at any time, as well as lose the magic that has been his legend at any moment, albeit he seems to just be getting stronger and better. I know the compensation would be high, but if Belichick expects to outlast Brady, that wouldn't matter. You may have hit on the ultimate sign here, Belichick goes as far as Brady and they will leave as a pair..in that case, get what you can an add another piece that can help Brady in the immediate future.
Usually the NFL trade deadline is quiet. This is the most action I've seen in the last decade combined.
Eagles had the 33rd and 44th out of 44 eligible running backs for pass blocking grade. Ajayi is only slightly above average at 19th but it's a huge improvement and it brings in a guy that brings way more to the table than a guy like Frank Gore.
Didn't the Cleveland Browns chase Jimmy G recently? Looks like the 49ers got him for less than the Browns' offer. That is so Cleveland.
