    Medicine, cures for disease..

    https://medlineplus.gov/magazine/issues/fall07/articles/fall07pg4-7.html

DIGITAL IMAGING BREAST BIOPSY SYSTEM— A non-surgical system developed with Space Telescope Technology that greatly reduces the time, cost, pain, and other effects associated with traditional surgical biopsies.

BREAST CANCER DETECTION—A solar cell sensor that determines exactly when x-ray film has been exposed to optimum density; it reduces exposure to radiation and doubles the number of patient exams per machine.

LASER ANGIOPLASTY—A "cool" type of laser, called an excimer laser, which offers precise non-surgical cleanings of clogged arteries and fewer complications than in balloon angioplasty.

ULTRASOUND SKIN DAMAGE ASESMENT—An advanced ultrasound instrument to immediately assess depth of damage, improving patient treatment and saving lives in serious burn cases.

HUMAN TISSUE STIMULATOR—A device employing NASA satellite technology that is implanted in the body to help control chronic pain and involuntary motion disorders through electrical stimulation of targeted nerve centers or particular areas of the brain.

COOL SUIT—Custom-made suit that circulates coolant to lower body temperature; it dramatically improves symptoms of multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and other conditions.

PROGRAMMABLE PACEMAKER—An implant connected to a physician's computer and used to regulate heart rate, incorporating multiple NASA technologies.

OCULAR SCRENING—An image-processing technique developed by NASA and now used to detect eye problems in very young children.

VOICE-CONTROLLED WHEELCHAIR—Robotic wheelchair manipulator that responds to 35 one-word voice commands, helping patients to perform daily tasks like picking up packages, opening doors, and turning on appliances.

WATER PURIFICATION SYSTEM—A municipal water treatment system for developing nations that uses iodine instead of chlorine to kill harmful bacteria.

$19 Billion gets you all that.

$650 Billion in defense spending? Death and destruction.

my brother in law, who is a CPA and a attorney, is kind of a nut but he believes Hitler and many high ranking German officers made their way to South America. Something about the corpse of Hitler wasn't right in the bunker and some other things he said, which i forgot.

yeah i read a whole bunch of stuff about NASA and space exploration at lunch yesterday. it seemed more like R&D work than space exploration. hey if they termed it "research" i am cooler with that than going to Mars at $25 billion dollars.

The Mars project is being privately funded by Elon Musk. I don't think that will be a go, new studies show that your body wouldnt withstand the atmosphere long term.

The planet currently has LESS nukes on it than 30 years ago. The world is less concerned about nuclear war now than during the height of the Cold War (unless you buy into the sabre-rattling of Leader Kim). NK has been doing this since the 1950s. Russia currently has 4,300 nuclear warheads, while the U.S. has 4,000; Russia has 1,950 active strategic nuclear warheads, compared with the U.S. having 1,650. Also, Russia is estimated to have roughly 1,500 tactical nuclear weapons, all of which are declared to be in central storage. I'm picturing a self-storage unit with aluminum roll-up doors. In 1965, the US had over 31000 nuclear weapons, the Russians had just over 6000. In 1985, the US had over 20000 nukes in stockpile, Russia was encroaching on 40K. The projections for both countries stand at 3300-3500 for 2022.

My Nukyular Story: I used to work for this company that was based in Chelsea (NYC). From time to time, I would be asked a question or requested a comment from a journalist that would be interested in the building we were occupying. They would set up video cameras or take photos etc. Anyway, the interest in the building is because that was where Fatman and Little Boy were housed during some phases of ... THE MANHATTAN PROJECT. We were "advised" by the owner to not comment or offer an opinion, especially on company time. I've been stuck between floors on the rickety-assed freight elevator that those nukes traveled.

^didn't Obama want to build a space station ON MARS?? I'm sure that would cost a bundle.

He said a speech talking about possible projects involving mars. He would never be in long enough to act on something like that.

A president could want to fund something like that, but then another president would be able to cut the funding.

The doomsday clock has never been closer.

Trump has been quoted as saying, "If we have nuclear weapons, why don't we use them?"

He's planning on expanding the nuclear program bigly.

Kim jong un is planning to detonate one above ground soon.

Ah well, I figure I have probably another 35-40 years left of which maybe 20 are good ones, maybe.

im shocked halo found those stats on the nukes and weaponry. i thought that stuff was classified.

and my parents due to their drinking and other contributing life factors, both died young - 64 and 59. i'll be 46 in November (same Birthday as Will), so I got 20 good years left. What's sad is my oldest sibling will be 60 in 2018, so I worry I'm going to lose siblings soon as people except for 1 Uncle and 2 Aunts don't live a long time in my family. Thanks genes.

Dying, although i won't know it until it happens - it scares me the most. That I won't live forever and will be dead scares me as I don't know what else is out there. My religion tells me of an heaven and afterlife, but it's all "belief" over common sense. If I get hacked to pieces, what is left? I grew up believing once you die, that's it. You're bones are in a coffin in a cemetery. No afterlife, no heaven - zilch. Now I hope and pray there's something else. That's a big reason I quit drinking was to keep living ! I have heard from 2 people in AA that they kept drinking to just die and quit on life. To me, if this is truly it - i wanna freaking LIVE and never die.

oh and 18 months sober in 10 day! Wahoo!

Fifty years from now, we'll all be skeletons, that's all we know.

I'm convinced that if you open up graves of all the big mouths and fast talkers in this world, their skeletol jaws would still be flapping up and down.

my niece turns 20 today and my Dad would've been 95 today. Wow. I can't even imagine him alive today with all the technology we have (thanks NASA). My Dad was in charge of hundreds of men, their paychecks and benefits on job sites and couldn't manage a VCR or Microwave - go figure. He was one of a kind.
