I've lost my ray of sunshine early this year. Too many disappointing performances. At this point just hoping not to be embarrassed by the Vikes this week.
13-12 Browns lead at the half. Not gonna get my hopes up yet. I'll believe the win when the clock reaches 0:00.
Thus far, they look like the team that took the Steelers to the end in week one...I just hope it has a different ending!!
No kidding! How was THAT PI, but it wasn't at the other end for Devalve? The ball was uncatchable as he was throwing it away.
The Good: Spencer FREAKING Drango The Bad: DPI and overall lack of discipline killing the team The Ugly: the 25 yrd deep safety. It seemed that the defense was plugging along playing lights out in every other alignment, then they seemed to switch to that as their base and were giving everything up underneath. IT. JUST. DOESNT. WORK. *atleast with these players The Uglier: Special teams. It reminded me of tOSU. A muffed punt, missed FG, missed XP, completely unacceptable.
Yeah, I have a very strong feeling, the Browns will be starting a new kicker this coming Sunday...then Gonzalez will get picked up by another team and won't miss the rest of the season, going on to become Special Teams Player of the Year in 2018. And I agree with the defense... Good: First half. Scored first. We had the lead for the majority of the half including end of the first and half time, we were mixing the run in extremely well.... At one point we were 21 rushes to 18 passes. Only (2) penalties through the first 3 quarters of football. Bad: We ended the game with 22 rushes to 34 passes...How is that even possible that you are averaging over 5.5 ypc, and AS SOON AS YOU GIVE UP A LEAD, you rush ONE TIME and pass 16 times. HUE MUST BE FORCED TO GIVE UP PLAY CALLING! He called the best half of the year the first half on Sunday morning, but his panic button is going to lead to more losses than wins. I understand that passing the ball gets you to the end zone faster.....Unless of course you are forcing 3 and outs, when you could be getting chunk runs that lead to first downs. Ugly: Coming out of the first half and fumbling on the first play. THEN after your defense holds them to a 3 and out field goal, you return the kickoff 71 yards to set up your offense to take the lead right back...Only to have your receivers drop balls forcing a short field goal attempt and then a second miss on the day...That STILL didn't deter the defense as they held the Vikings and gave the ball back which allowed the Browns to retake the lead at 16-15....THEN for some Godforsaken reason, they go back into the 30 yard deep safety defense that hasn't worked all season and BOOM, back to back TDs help the Vikings pull away, all the while the Browns abandon the run and reel off 16 passes to 1 run.. At the end of the game, turn over difference -1 and move to 0-8 on the season. They need to have an enlightenment over the bye week. All hands on deck, no one goes on vacation or anything. Full house in the locker room, coaches offices and the front office. What ever it takes, trade, guys off the street...cutting key players, namely Gonzalez and Britt...Changes need to be made NOW...Oh yeah, and promote someone, anyone, to call the plays on Sunday.
So nobody brings up how the defense gives up a FG right before the half going 62 yds in 40 secs after just scoring a TD? They were down 14 pts most of the 4Q and you want them running the ball? Take away Crowell's 1st carry of the day and he had 10 carries for 38 yds....lets not pretend like he was gashing them...also they were playing that deep safety in the 1st half as well.....Minny woke up in the 2nd half....the Browns had 3 big plays....the pass to Louis that was pretty much a jump ball...bad defense by Rhodes, the dump to Crowell where there was nobody in the middle of the field and the KO return in the 2nd half or else they probably don't score...Minny had scoring drives of 84, 75 and 60 yds
There's only so much to put in each post Stopper...and it isn't "nobody", you just did... Feel free to write your own takes on the game and ADD to the conversation instead of ragging on others for not putting it in their post. I didn't state that Dogside missed on his post, I simply added my thoughts which gives more information for us all to digest. #foodforthought
True but you didnt feel that was a pivotal part in the game right before half....I said to myself this game is over when that happened...sure enough fumble right out of the gate and 21-3 2nd half
I didn't say I didn't feel it wasn't a pivotal part of the game, BUT, the fact they retook the lead at 16-15...well, TO ME, that means it wasn't necessarily pivotal as much as one of many aspects of the game that led to the ultimate digression in the 4th Qtr. This team must sustain drives in order for the defense to continue being successful. They aren't deep enough to handle 2-3 3 and outs and stay competitive...They aren't to that point. They need at least every other offensive series to end in 6-12 plays. It snowballs exponentially with every 3 and out...The passing game shortens those series even more it seems. The run game was making the series manageable, 3rd and 10's, well we aren't built to handle those yet either...
I get what your saying, but the KO return set up that lead....not the offense....Minny D put the clamps down...take away the last drive and the Browns had bout 60 yds of offense?
I agree 100%, the offense was anemic in the second half...This offense isn't good enough to drop balls and have penalties and it sure as hell isn't deep enough to put a powerful offense on the field for every drive. They need some major improvement on that side of the ball this next off season and I truly believe it would help the defense maintain leads.
GOOD: The start time. They should just get the Browns game out of the way every week while folks are sleeping in.... The defense really had their hands full. Maybe with about a dozen less "3 and outs" by the offense, it could have been respectable...Benching Kenny Britt. It's about time..... BAD: The special teams. We are making mistakes that you really shouldn't see in the NFL. Directly after we opened the game with a quick TD, we start hemorrhaging points. Missing the extra point and then missing on the short FG, felt like we gave them back 4 points real quick....And dropping the punt was just sad. Can't happen. Talk about quickly deflating our nice start. UGLY: Just how wide open was Adam Thielen all afternoon? wow...I think our DB's are still looking for him...
Not making the move for McCarron yesterday was the right call. Let's work under both assumptions - Hue is staying/Hue is shit canned. If Jackson is staying then bringing in a career back-up with a low ceiling at the cost of draft picks that may have a more positive impact makes little sense. If Jackson is leaving then spending picks on a player that the new coaching regime may not want makes no sense. In either scenario, getting A.J. does nothing to help this team long term.
