Friendly reminder, this regime liked Goff and Trubisky and did not like Wentz and Watson. The only "what if" game we should (and can) be playing is... "what if this regime gets to make a decision on the QB this draft?".
I'm not a stat guy, but I think being the NFL leader in 3rd down QB efficiency seemed worthy of a mention in this conversation...That says CLUTCH.
@TopDawg ... I was just joking around. That's a classic line from a recently-ignored member of the boards. I agree... I mea culpa'd with Wentz. But to flip the script... what evidence has Hue Jackson given us that makes anyone think he would have developed Carson Wentz? Let's butterfly effect this thing... Bob Griffin would still have been the starter to begin the 2016 season. If Wentz isn't on the Eagles, there's a chance Sam Bradford isn't traded, so the offense looks different. Griffin isn't on the field when the injury occurred, so he stays healthy for a couple games. Then Hue turns to McCown, who also wouldn't get injured in the second game, since he wasn't there to play it. Wentz is elevated to backup, but Griffin also isn't on IR. Maybe McCown gets injured, maybe he doesn't. Maybe Bob Griffin gets healthy in time to come back. Even if this team is still winless, Wentz isn't getting the game reps. Jackson is awful at QB development and David Lee isn't here, so there's no behind-the-scenes developing. Griffin comes back into the lineup, so Wentz is made inactive and doesn't get reps in practice again. Hue was desperately playing for a win in 2016, so Wentz doesn't see the field as a development opportunity, even at 0-12, 0-13, 0-14. Maybe the Browns go winless? Wentz hasn't seen the field all season and now they enter the offseason with a 1-15 or 0-16 record, still take Myles Garrett and maybe have an open competition? Without having his rookie year, which was awful, by the way, is Wentz on this Browns team and coach Jackson at the same point as he is starting his 23rd game for the Eagles and coach Pederson?
I suppose that's true...and I'd 100% expect similar results to what we've already seen. They have proven themselves incapable in this capacity. We MUST bring in somebody to head up that draft room...
When and where did I say that?? My conversation began with introducing in the Watson scenario...I have never spoke as to the Wentz vs what we currently have, I only expanded on your original thought.
That's a lot of speculation. lol! Nice work....Of course I agree that our dysfunctional franchise would have slowed the growth of Carson Wentz or any human being. That said, he still looks like the perfect fit for what Hue Jackson's offense attempts to accomplish every week. He's a big, strong, athletic, smart, franchise QB prospect, that we should be ashamed of front office for passing on... And then we backed it up by whiffing again on Watson...There's no way we give Sashi final say on the roster again...
post #327...this is the line from your post that started it all: "The pass on Watson may go down as one of the worst decisions in Browns history when all is said and done. With Wentz, you are STILL benefitting from the trade in known and yet to be picked players." I have no idea where all the confusion came from...I simply asked, "do ya really think we are "benefitting" by passing on Wentz?"
And that's fine. Working with what we know today, if Hue Jackson and Sashi Brown are retained this regime must go with a young, veteran QB (Garoppolo, Cousins, Bridgewater, Kaepernick). This eliminates the need for Hue to develop him (he can't) and the front office to get the pick right (they won't). Maybe that's the plan, anyway. Much like offensive lineman, it's easier to pay a premium price for a free agent at the position who's already been developed in the NFL by another team than it is to identify one, invest the resources, and try to coach them up.
How the hell did he develope chemistry with all those Browns QB's last year, yet he can't get ANYTHING going with Kirk Cousins? That's really strange... I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact they were rival Big 10 QB's in college? I have to imagine Pryor wasn't Kirk Cousins' favorite guy back then...I'd like to think professionalism would trump college grudges, but ya never know. A lot of options for Cousins in DC...A WR is only as good as his QB will allow.
Cousins: 18 of 33 (54.5%), 223 yards (6.8 YPA), 1 TD, 0 INT, 85.8 rating Griffin: 18 of 34 (52.9%), 220 yards (6.5 YPA), 0 TD, 1 INT, 60.9 rating McCown: 19 of 43 (44.2%), 317 yards (7.4 YPA), 0 TD, 3 INT, 40.6 rating Kessler: 35 of 56 (62.5%), 427 yards (7.6 YPA), 4 TD, 1 INT, 102.3 rating #TeamCody #ItsTheQB

That's funny...Seriously though, do you think it could be possible that Pryor's nightmare season in Washington could simply stem from the fact that Kirk Cousins hates him? I think it's not only possible, but likely...Most folks dislike Pryor. I can only imagine the disdain that exists in East Lansing...
It is in DIRECT ASSOCIATION to a Desaun Watson comment...It wasn't an either or, it was in correlation to NOT taking Watson.
