You've got to know that they're going to keep trying things to improve outreach/the brand, so this isn't unexpected. It's wrong, just unexpected. I really hope they re-think a change like this before it's implemented. The NFL has become the sport of the casual fan - the fantasy fan, etc. It's an abomination that pushes guys like me further and further away, each year. I can see why the NHL might want that. I don't think it's something they'll be able to capture without changing the way the game is seen dramatically.

Imagine overlays pointing to players' stat lines as the puck is moved up ice, MPH meters popping up larger and larger after shots... No.

I should clarify what I wrote above.

Think NASCAR. Look at the grotesque amount of overlays and pop-ups on screen. There is a constant deluge of usually useless information that covers up the surrounding cars, themselves. That's what I fear the NHL might move towards, and that sucks. Seeing tags showing names and numbers above players, a lit puck obscuring stick handling, stats covering up important portions of ice... Hockey is a sudden game, Covering it up is a bad idea.

A 2-5 team? I know it's only seven games in, but wow, the oilers really have to turn this around soon. Really hard to throw 4 lines out with the cap, when you have to pay out half your payroll to five or six players, it's tough.

 

Yes, he is awful but so are the Penguins leading the League in PIM's too. Not to mention being a no show in the 2nd game of their B2B's.

 

Went to the Panthers-Pittsburgh game Friday night. Pens got a powerplay late on a call that really shouldn't have happened (several of those, over the course of the game), and scored accordingly. Florida really can't give away games like that if they want to stay in it. If you're tied with two minutes left, at least walk out of the building with a point. Pitt did a great job during the second period. Florida didn't even exist.

Had two Pittsburgh fans in front of me. I was heckling the players (granted, of both teams. Yandle is a Panthers I'll gladly comment on), and most people were getting a kick out of it. The two Pitt fans in front of me didn't. At one point I exclaimed, "That's got to be a fucking call", or something to that effect, and they turned around and said, "There are kids here. If you don't stop fucking saying that shit we're gonna beat the shit out of you". The little girl a few seats down from them was watching and listening as they said it. Well handled.

After a couple more threats of physical violence and finger pointing from them, I decided to have a little fun with it. The rest if the night I was shouting, "No, don't hit him, they're sensitive!", or "Don't say anything mean, Florida, you're upsetting their sensibilities!". The two guys left about halfway through the third, when I dared then to swing or shut the fuck up. They told me they'd be waiting in the parking lot. They were not.

Keeping it classy, Pitt fans. Way to go.

 

no shock there. my trip to pitt 2 yrs ago for ND-Pitt was much of the same crap. and people tell me how awesome the city and town is etc. i told my nephew not to go to school there and now im telling his sister that too. they don't like philly people. thankfully my nephew chose Penn St. My niece is looking down south for colleges now.

 

flyers-oilers was a great game. many oilers fans in attendance but they were quiet and to themselves.
