I do agree that protesting at a job site is really not that great of a plan, BUT tv cameras are watching so using that stage is very reasonable when you have a cause. As an NFL owner, I wouldn't discipline any player for protesting, whether its kneeling or just raising a fist (Mexico 1968). I keep thinking about 1985, when the Bears were writing stuff on their white headbands. I think the NFL quashed that. It briefly trickled into the NCAA too (Bosworth), but that was very short lived. I'm surprised by Goodell's decision, to be honest. The owners won't challenge the players on this either. They'll just put their collective heads in the sand. Their hands are tied. Without going into detail, to me personally, the ruling is very politically satisfying.

 

This just happened with a friend. Her son's principal and math teacher are on vacation. They just had 2+ months off. wtf.

Report: Ezekiel Elliott’s camp, NFL have discussed settlement to case...

With Ezekiel Elliott suspended, un-suspended, suspended and un-suspended yet again, there may finally be an ability to find common ground for representatives of Elliott and the NFL to reach a settlement in the ongoing legal saga over his playing status.

According to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, Elliott’s camp and the NFL have discussed potential settlements of the case. The recent motion granting a temporary restraining order puts the case in a state of limbo.


Elliott is again eligible to play this week for Dallas against the San Francisco 49ers after the TRO was issued by a New York district court on Tuesday.

As the suspension has been applied and halted at various points, each side could claim the higher ground in the case and, therefore, have little incentive to reach a settlement. With the TRO in place until Oct. 30, or until Judge Katherine Polk Failla returns to the bench to hear new arguments (she was on vacation and the TRO hearing was handled by another judge), there is a lull in activity that could spur more substantial discussions surrounding a settlement that could reduce the number of games of Elliott’s suspension and allow the NFL to keep a stranglehold on Roger Goodell’s ability to impose discipline as he sees fit.

For now, Elliott remains in uniform for the Cowboys. (PFT)

 

Seattle Seahawks...

Avril going to IR, considering possible retirement...

It appears Cliff Avril's season is officially over -- and his career could be in jeopardy, too.

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Wednesday the team will place Avril on injured reserve due to a nagging neck injury that has kept him sidelined since Week 4.

In addition to the season-ending injury, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Avril is considering the possibility of retiring, per a source informed of the situation.

Avril, 31, suffered the injury in the first quarter of Seattle's 46-18 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 1.

A steady force on the Seahawks' defensive line, Avril has recorded eight or more sacks in four of his last five seasons (all with Seattle) and has been important part of the Seahawks' menacing front seven. His loss sets up to have a significant impact on Seattle's defense, allowing offenses to divert more attention to opposite end Michael Bennett and bringing down the unit's overall ability to rush the passer.

It remains to be seen if Avril decides to call it a career as he deals with a neck injury that has derailed his season. (NFL.com)

 

Washington Redskins...

The Washington Redskins suffered a big loss along the defensive line.

First-round pick Jonathan Allen is expected to miss three months after he has surgery to put a screw into his injured foot, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source involved with the situation. The rookie will head to injured reserve.

Coach Jay Gruden initially expressed hope Allen would miss only three to four weeks after suffering the injury in Sunday's win over the San Francisco 49ers. Alas, the rookie's recovery will wipe out a promising season.

The pocket-pushing defensive lineman gobbled up 10 tackles and a sack in five starts before suffering the injury. Allen will particularly be missed in the Redskins' interior rotation on passing downs, where the rookie displayed an ability to collapse the pocket.

After being projected to go in the top 10 in the 2017 NFL Draft, Allen fell to the Redskins at No. 17 overall after concerns about shoulder tendinitis. Early in the season, it looked like Washington had one of the steals of the draft in Allen.

The loss of the first-round pick thins out an underrated Redskins defensive front that will miss Allen's ability to plug gaps and pester the quarterback.

Gid -some will argue it's their legal right to do so. the kaepernick thread took a ton of shots of what is allowed and what is their right to protest. people can't believe what they want anymore. they gotta have a right and privilege to do so etc.
