Just to be clear, this article limits itself to just the front office and I completely agree.

I think the single-largest issue in Berea right now is Hue Jackson and without immediate and major changes, I am 100% on-board with making changes in the offseason at the position.

  7. What was the purpose of pulling him for 1 game?

Daily reminder: the front office does not determine starting lineup or playing time.

In relief Hogan gave the team a couple of sparks, but he is NOT a starting QB as some have stated. When it came time to go up against a team that gameplanned for you, he was just as bad as Kizer and he isn't the future.

Kizer could still be the future, but he needs a lot of growth and that growth will take a bigger step by being on the field. Hogan did one thing for Hue, it validated that he doesn't give the Browns a better chance to win by him being the starter. So now, they can concentrate on building the rookie into a solid professional...

  10. I can agree w that, but who can have confidence at the QB position....probably playing on pins n needles

See! Now that's at least some constructive dialogue.

Clueless Hue is in a death-spiral right now that will not survive the season. He has mismanaged his quarterbacks since Day 1 arrival. Benching Kizer in favor of Hogan made sense if Hogan was going to get three weeks - up until the BYE - at which point they could re-evaluate.

Benching Kizer for one game is destructive to the rookie and his growth and disruptive to the team as a whole.

Touch on in "Where We Go From Here" thread, but it also allows the front office to evaluate Hue. If he's unwilling to tailor his approach to Kizer and try to give the rookie some help going forward, we can have no doubt that he's ineffective as a coach and will need to be replaced.

I'm sure there was a conversation prior to Hogan being named starter...something along the lines of, "step back, take a breath and see the game flow from the sidelines. Learn the why, what and how's of game day, without worrying about the next series or snap. When we can get you back in there, we will, but take this game to get your head right about the flow."

He hadn't had that opportunity except for pre-season games...

It should have given Kizer a new perspective, hopefully he grows. At the very least, he was able to see from the sidelines the perspective of how a teammate feels when you give the opponent the ball 3 times on turnovers. Protect yourself, protect the ball and protect the opportunity for a win.

Coach Hue Jackson named DeShone Kizer the Browns' starting quarterback for Week 7 against the Titans.

There's some speculation the Browns benched Kizer in Week 6 at Houston to avoid a Kizer-Deshaun Watson matchup after the Browns passed on Watson, who is playing at an MVP level, in order to come back and take Kizer 40 picks later. Kevin Hogan was dreadful in his start, and Jackson is going back to the rookie Kizer. Kizer has far more upside as a thrower and runner, but he has to cut down on the turnovers and sacks taken for this Cleveland offense to get off the mat.

    UPDATE:

Along with naming DeShone Kizer starter, Cody Kessler has also been promoted to 2nd string backup...I knew Hogan looked bad, but the tape must have been even worse.

Edit: They have now said Kevin Hogan has a rib injury

    FWIW...

Matt Miller of Bleacher Report - and a dialed in college scout - gave an interview with the Fan in Cleveland today. He said it's almost a lock that Hue Jackson gets fired at the end of the season. Says "that's the sense he gets from around the NFL". And also speculated that he thinks he'll go back to Cincinnati as the offensive coordinator.

Of course, if Marvin Lewis gets fired, he could go there as the head coach.

Appearing on Good Morning Football Saturday, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports both Kenny Britt and Corey Coleman were sent home to Cleveland from Houston ahead of the Week 6 game against the Texans for missing curfew.

Neither player was going to be active, as Britt was out with knee and groin injuries and Coleman remains sidelined with a broken hand, but it's still not a good look. Britt has been a total disaster as a free-agent pickup, loafing around on the field when he's healthy and doing whatever he wants off it. Coleman has yet to live up to his first-round status, and former bust Britt probably isn't someone the Browns want Coleman running around with off the field. Britt may very well be a one-and-done disappointment in Cleveland as a cut candidate next spring.
