THE GOOD: The Steelers go into a very tough venue and come away with a win. The Steelers are once again are 1st in the AFCN. The Steelers put the experience of last week behind them. AB with 155 Receiving Yds on 8 receiptions, 1 Receiving TD Le'Veon Bell with 179 Rushing Yds, 1 Rushing TD, 12 Receiving Yds on Receptions The Steelers offensive line only gave up 1 QB sack Todd Haley's game plan to run the ball more than throw the ball. The Steelers defense shut down the Chiefs rushing attack. The Steelers defense has 3 QB sacks. James Harrison adds to his franchise record. The Steelers defense registers a safety The Bears defeated the Ravens in OT. THE BAD: Ben Roethlisberger threw 1 INT and could have had another. Alex Smith had 246 Receiving on 19 completions with 1 TD and 0 INT. THE UGLY: The Rams go into Jacksonville and win 27-17. The Patriots win after the Jets score the 1st 14 points. Aaron Rodgers injury.
The Good: Owning KC again. The defense. Running the ball more than passing in this game. AB’s incredible catch. Bell is back. The officiating. James freaking Harrison - the man still has it at 40-ish. Williams leading team with 4 sacks. The Bad: Injuries to Gilbert and Williams. Ben on third downs with only a few yards needed. Our coverage at times when going zone and rushing 3. Bud Dupree. Dominating the box score but not the scoreboard - this team has a reputation for missing opportunities. The Ugly: Haley/Ben combo in red zones. Special teams miscues. Unacceptable. Get it fixed, Tomlin.
Williams injury makes me nervous. If I'm not mistaken, I saw him on crutches during the game. 4 sacks so far this season, not someone we want to lose. Any updates?
Hip injury. He said he was ok, and that all that was injured was his pride. We will have to see this week
Other than the head scratching play calling on the 1st and goal from the 2 yard line plays, I thought Haley called a pretty good game. Team looked prepared and focused so some credit has to go to Tomlin and the coaching staff for the win. Defense was lights out (very impressive) until the end of the 3rd quarter, very leaky after that. Since the start of last season (including the playoffs) KC is 17-6, 3 of those losses against our beloved and once again Super Steelers. One of the game balls has to go to Andy Reid for not electing to kick a FG on 4th and 2 to make it 12-6. Changed the complextion of the their last drive when they needed a TD to win. Regardless of the goods, bads, uglies, gimmicks, and theatrics; the end result is a win and it gets our beloved team back on track. Big game vs the dirty Bengals next Sunday.
GOOD Offensive Line Bell Defensive Line AB Sean Davis Mike Hilton BAD Two turnovers Field Position Personnel and play-calling near the goal line UGLY Mike Mitchell Some Cover Zero Packers w/o Rodgers Browns, Ravens, Broncos
GOOD - Antonio Brown has been outstanding since losing his cool. He usually is, but yesterday he was nearly perfect against some good players in the Chiefs' secondary. - Le'Veon Bell has found his groove. Now it's Ben's turn. - Special mention goes to certain members of the offensive line yesterday. Justin Houston had zero pressures and was a non-factor in the whole game, and that's largely thanks to Alejandro Villanueva having possibly the best game of his career. Also, David DeCastro in particular was dominant opening holes for Bell to blast through at his leisure. - Cameron Heyward and Stephon Tuitt were, as usual, the stars of the defense yesterday. Tuitt got pressure against every Chiefs' offensive lineman he lined up against (everyone but the center) and Heyward is the biggest reason why the Chiefs had absolutely no running game to speak of. It's those two doing the dirty work that allows everyone else to make plays. - The entire defensive unit had their best game of the season yesterday, bringing Alex Smith back down to Earth and making rookie phenom Kareem Hunt look inept most of the time. Hunt was no match in pass protection and never found any way to run the ball. - We'll win football games by impersonating the best Steelers' teams of the past - by running the ball and playing great defense. UGLY - Joe Flacco vs. the Bears: 24-41 for 180 yards, no TDs and 2 INTs. I'm not sure how it's even possible to put up just 180 yards on 41 passes!
Good -Bell -Brown -OL/run game -Our defense DOMINANT for much of the game Bad -Ben -Our offense on 3rd down -Continued red zone woes (we're going to LOSE another game we should win this year because of this-maybe this week) -Our offense now averaging UNDER 20 points a game this year Ugly -Continued ravaging of teams in the league by injuries. Thank goodness we've been spared serious ones for the most part thus far. -Our continued special teams woes. Already cost us a game this year, gave Chiefs early lead yesterday. We haven't had a legitimate returner long term on EITHER punts/kickoffs since Randel El. With our incredible ability to draft/develop receivers, why in the world can't we find someone to plug in at this role that's a threat/weapon to this team? This may be the last year we have DHB as our gunner on special teams, maybe our front office finally decides to dedicate some investment either draft or trade to the position. I know kickoffs have been diminished, but nearly every team gets a handful of attempts each week, would be nice to NOT have a plug and play approach each year and just CONCEDE that Antonio Brown is the only chance at that position to provide a spark or score. Or perhaps the next CBA will allow everyone to dress each week and therefore make it more of a priority for teams to keep someone on their roster explicitly for that role.
James Harrison has still got it! Hopefully he continues to get a helmet on game day. Ran the football well. I love to see Bell carrying the load but you have to wonder how long will last if he consistently gets 30 or more touches a game. There is a reason Ben targets Brown so much. Best WR in the NFL. He made a couple mistakes that resulted in two turnovers but he came up with an amazing catch and score. Bryant asking for a trade... does he really think anybody will trade for a guy who screwed his team and family over because he couldn't stop smoking weed? I hope they get him more involved and I hope he stays clean.
Today he said he didn’t request a trade and is focused on Cincinnati. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/martavis-bryant-focused-on-cincinnati-not-trade-rumors/
Beloved mc, Statistically it was 1 turnover. The shenanigan between JuJu and Brown on the kick after the safety is similar to an onside kick. Since our beloved team never gained possession it's not a turnover, hence its a shenanigan.
The Good: 3-1 on the road so far. The schedule is unkind early and they're 4-2. Some of it has been ugly but the team has talent and upside. Bell. He's in the form this team needs. They needed more of him vs the Jags. They did it right this week. Brown. He stopped on a route that led to a pick but he made up for it late. Love the hard work he brings James Harrison and the rest of the D. Harrison had a big sack when needed but there was so many good plays. The open field tackle for a loss on Hill by Hilton was great. Ravens loss and now they visit the Vikings this week while the Steelers play the Bengals at home. Here's hoping. The Bad. Ben(Sometimes) He wasn't all bad and the INT wasn't his fault. Still, there are times when his decision making is poor and it showed. He got bailed out by Brown. He missed an open TD and had to settle for a FG Play calling: 1st and goal at the three and they pass when Bell is rolling. I hate when they try to be too clever. Just rely on execution. Run it three times. The line blocks pretty darn well. Not too much else. KC is really good and going in and getting a win was awesome. The Ugly Aaron Rodgers out for the year most likely. Pretty somber here in GB. Joe Flacco. I don't care but he really seems to have regressed badly. (Even worse than Ben ) Summary: I was rooting hard for the Bears even though it goes against the grain for me and it came to fruition. Going into the game, I was thinking "Well the loss won't kill them and then they won. Despite all that's happened they are 4-2 and they've beaten two good teams. (Minn isn't bad, even with Keenum). Now they're at home vs a team that they own. They must take care of business and I think the Vikes will beat the Ravens. Could be a two game lead.
Great post dirk. Also UGLY is the amount of injuries sustained to key players around the NFL. Aaron Rodgers hurt is huge and opens the division and the conference alike wide open. The Eagles now look like the best team in the NFC by a lot. The Ravens should lose to the Vikings but I don't think they'll roll over. I think their defense will make enough plays to keep them in that game. Meanwhile, we honestly have nothing to fear against the Bengals provided the defense continues to play great. There is no weird feeling in the air like there was during Jaguars week.
We do if Burfict and Co. decide to go out of their way and increase the odds of hurting one of our playmakers. They've done this on more than one occasion. Bengals should be shorthanded on offense at receiver.
We should have had nothing to fear about the Bears and the Jags as well and that didnt work out so well. Burfict could shape an entire season pending on who his head hunting takes out and how long. While both teams will likely get a reminder letter from the league its almost a safe bet that Burfict will be hunting heads in this game.
Very true statement! Hopefully he isn't successful in any of his attempts injure any of the Steelers.
