L'ville and VTech each have a Jackson at QB, and I'd probably pass on both. Falk (of course), Browning at UDub, Rudolph (OkState) are interesting and so is Will Grier (WVU). I don't think Rosen, Rudolph or Mayfield will be available when Pittsburgh is up (unless they move up prior to the draft). Which is fine by me either way, since there is a nice group of QBs coming up.

Before everyone loses their shit over Luke Falk, I wouldn't be so quick to anoint him King of the Attainables. I was talking about him over on the Browns board not too long ago. He has a very limited ceiling thanks to average-at-best arm talent. His system typically does not produce good NFL QBs because it allows the passer to read the defense from the shotgun most of the time and schemes receivers open. That works against the defenses Washington State faces most of the time, but NFL defensive backfields are better. If Falk has any future in the NFL it will come after a substantial period of development. Even then his limited upside will make him fall to the third day IMO as a possible camp arm/career backup.

I like Baker Mayfield more than Faulk or Jackson. Mayfield is going to get knocked for his size. I've seen all three QBs play multiple games. I agree with Demo in regards to Faulk. The offense Leach runs puts up a lot of yards in college but I don't remember the QBs running that offense having great success in the NFL.

Serious note: why do college systems exist that poorly prepare its key participants for their future? Isn't that the opposite of what college is supposed to do? These college coaches are so egomaniacal that they'd rather have immediate success for their personal careers than prepare the boys and young men placed under them for possible success in the NFL.

It's quite simple, Demo (and, frankly I'm surprised you asked that question). Their job IS NOT to prepare players for the NFL. It no doubt helps them in recruiting but their job is WIN FOOTBALL GAMES. Period.

Just so all are aware . . .

I'll be living in my refrigerator box under the bridge here for a while. I lost a bet and, as a result, have had to ban myself from posting on the Browns' boards until Black Friday.

There is a VERY inaccurate narrative that "spread offense" QBs aren't successful in the NFL . The reality is that some of the most successful NFL offenses run what would be considered a spread-style offense.

Spread offenses in NFL: Broncos, Chargers, Patriots, Eagles, Packers, and especially the Saints (Brees' Purdue Boilermakers were known as "Basketball on Grass").

QBs that played in a spread-style offense in college:
Brees (mentioned above), Joe Flacco, Phillip Rivers, Cam Newton, Ryan Tannehill (no longer a starter), Colin "Murica Haytn" Kaepernick (currently unemployed by NFL), Big Dumb and ... Alex Smith. Yes, currently, THE most talked about QB due to his teams' success.

I'm not spooked yet. I still like Falk, Rudolph, Rosen and Browning too. UDub QBs worry me a little, especially after that run of Huards that showed up back when. They panned out like the Detmers, but only worse. Different eras and several program changes later, so I should get over that issue. Before someone mentions lack of foot speed on Falk, I see at least (2) QBs on the above list that I would consider "not very nimble now" or "never was very nimble". I see some Super Bowl winners and a few SB participants on the list too.

The bet was clearly (and intentionally) Browns boards only.

"Spread-style" offenses aren't the problem at all. I'm referring specifically to Mike Leach's "Air-Raid" offense.

This article explains in detail how the Air-Raid offense works. Ironically it's meant to praise the scheme but at the same time shines a spotlight on why it doesn't translate to the NFL.

Falk would be asked to read the whole field and make throws into tight windows that he hasn't had to make at Washington State. I'm not saying it's impossible but he isn't a slam dunk and odds are against him.

When college coaches recruit top rate kids out of High School I guarantee you they are telling them how they'll prepare them and help them get to the NFL. It's rare that coaches care about anything but winning. Their multi million dollar contracts and fame are gone if they don't win now.

Faulk was smart not to enter the NFL draft last year. Sticking around has elevated him. I've watched him play three times this season. He knows that offense and he's running it really well. When I look at Faulk as a QB he reminds me of a taller Case Keenum.

If college coaches' jobs were to prepare players to enter professional sports, wouldn't every game look like a practice? Assuming it's not just QBs they are coaching. The coaches would have no time to game plan, because their time would be dedicated to development. The colleges wouldn't be making the money they do putting their most competitive team on the field. If coaches had an objective to make players ready for the NFL, it would destroy college football and most college sports for that matter. Which would also ruin the scholarship incentive. It's hard enough to get these kids to go to class, knowing 90% won't make it to the NFL. JMHO.
