Remember when you said this garbage about Leonard Fournette, too? If it wasn't for Kareem Hunt, Fournette would be the front-runner for rookie of the year. Dude has 466 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns. Are you mad that Fournette averages 93.2 YPG whereas Cook only averaged 88.5? Is a better receiver out of the backfield? A better player?
Saw the Browns trotted Kizer out first to talk to the media. Ouch. I know I've been hard on him but I kinda felt bad watching him in the press conference. Completely dejected.
Yeah, you picked the wrong guy to start touting greatness...Mr. non-clutch - Andy Dalton? I'd rather try to develope Shizer...
lol! All that is well and good, but I don't see how you can criticize Dalvin Cook...He was on his way too.
What am I missing? How about: Texans: Deandre Hopkins and Will Fuller (my guy), two #1 caliber WRs that get constant separation and make it very easy for a QB to make quick reads. SAS, can you find Watson's rate of time it takes for him to release the ball? Eagles: Alshon Jeffery, Torrey Smith and Nelson Agholor, a first round and two second round WRs that have a combined 13 years of STARTING experience between them..a nice mix of young, experienced talent...not to mention Zach Ertz and Brent Celek Now, give me Josh Gordon with a full year (2018) behind his drug issue, a healthy Corey Coleman on his second contract full of incentives due to said injuries, another first round WR in 2018 and a 3rd year Njoku to go with 4th year Devalve and in 2019, this will be a roster that is well built for a young QB to come in ready to roll...or a seasoned DeShone Kizer... Finally, don't group me in the adamant about Wentz group...I made clear my declaration that he was the #1 QB in that class, but I didn't want him at #2 overall. I still felt he was a later QB, I would have gladly taken him in the second. For the record, I still don't think he is a clear franchise QB...Let's talk when the meat of their schedule comes around. He is very lucky to play the Giants twice, but so far his wins are against, as with any QB, I want to see 3 years into his career before stating anything. Win 2-2 Redskins Loss 5-0 Chiefs Win 0-5 Giants Win 1-4 Chargers (beat the 0-5 Giants Win 2-3 Cardinals (beat the Colts and 0-5 49ers) They have games coming up against the Panthers and Broncos over the next 4 weeks, let's see what he does against legit defenses...Not that the Chiefs aren't legit, but he only completed 54% against them...
I'll take a stab at it... Dalvin Cook was the exact same player he was in college and depending on how you view the position you can see that as a positive or a negative. He still could not create yardage when faced with immediate pressure. He still could not create yardage by consistently beating the man in front of him. He still created yardage mainly by his ability to accelerate quickly and get on top of the defense fast. He still created yardage mainly by getting clean running lanes or open passes with little opposition. His only road game was against a defense that is struggling to stop the run and he had his worst game, while Leounard Fournette absolutely went off on Pittsburgh. If Dalvin returns from the injury in the same or better condition than what he was previously he will still be the same player because he is not a creative runner with vision and he lacks great horizontal movement. His game day totals are going to be constricted to big open field plays, where most of his statistics are generated. How's that?
And with all that said, the Vikings were an excellent place for him to land. Situations are everything for rookies and Dalvin is in a good one.
I'm fine with him being benched. In retrospect I was absolutely wrong in wanting him to start from day one...In fact, at this point, I wouldn't be upset if they activated Kessler as the immediate backup, just in case Hogan gets injured. He could still be on the sidelines learning from these two at this point. And no...I haven't written him off. I VERY Rarely write off any player before at least two years worth of professional experience.
@IrishDawg42 Deshaun Watson is worst in the NFL right now at 3.22s. For reference: Kizer second-worst at 3.02s. Derek Carr leads league with 2.44s. By Week (Watson/Kizer/Weekly Leader) Week 1 - 2.77 / 2.83 / 2.04 (Carr) Week 2 - 2.97 / 3.23 / 2.11 (Carr) Week 3 - 3.73 / 3.01 / 1.96 (McCown) Week 4 - 2.84 / 3.10 / 1.89 (Manuel) Week 5- 3.64 / 2.89 / 2.32 (McCown)
It's one of the reasons that DeShaun may be a 'sell high' player right now. I won't knock Watson for what he has done so far or what his potential may be (because I believe he is overcoming the handicap that is Bill O'Brien) but watching him I keep thinking "uh-oh... ohhh shit... *whew*... nice play kid.", lol.
lol! Fine...My bad. Didn't realize you thought Wentz was a second round flyer or whatever...It's not my concern. The confusion probably set in when you were making the Wentz comparison's to Peyton Manning...Oh well. doesn't matter. Browns still don't have a QB...That's what matters to me.
(3) QBs on the roster with a COMBINED 13 starts, how could you possibly be so certain of that? Talk about being set up for a slow turn around. Every kid in the QB room is still learning how to be a pro, yet they are also being asked to lead the offense of other guys still learning to be a pro besides the offensive line.
And for the record, I don't care which of the three could emerge after gaining experience, if one of the three does then the laws of averages plan will have worked for the numbers guys...Same can be said for all the young wide receivers....
BTW-just for the record...I understand both Wentz and Watson aren't "Franchise QB's" yet....smh. It's just that, well shucks, they seem to be a bit further along than the QB's the Browns have brought us...Can I say that?
Both Deshaun and DeShone are showing a lot of the same traits right now. I agree, @Tim , that he's "sell high" at the moment. Watson is using his mobility to extend plays, which leads a bit to his league-lagging time-to-release number. However, that same mobility gets him into trouble - he has stepped into pressure and sacks due to a lack of feel for the pocket. Kizer's got a much better feel for the pocket right now, actually. It's his decision-making and hesitancy to throw the pass that led to his benching (and second-worst time-to-throw number). He's a one-read and then slowly scan guy and he's missed a TON of throws because of it. But he does a much better job than Watson negotiating the pocket while he's doing so. Kizer's biggest obstacle to success right now is understanding and reading an NFL defense post-snap.
Well, at the very least Wentz. But, he also has a year head start. Watson will be viewed at the end of the season to see where he is. I hope he is successful, as well as Wentz. Don't take it the wrong way, I just don't know until they are established. If one year made a QBs career, RGIII would be heading to the HOF.
