Hey guys, Loooong time lurker here. Even going back to the CBS Forum. I enjoy & respect all of your opinions & look forward to finally contributing! I honestly feel like this group we have is by far the most knowledgeable Steeler fans I’ve ever heard opinions from. About me, I’m 30 and from Ft Worth, TX. My entire family comes from the ‘burgh. Most of my family is still there in Allentown, Monroeville & New Kensington. One of the biggest reasons I haven’t participated is the stupid pop up that comes up almost every time I visit this site. I use mobile (iPhone & iPad) and 9/10 times I come here I get a pop up saying I won a free iPad and it automatically directs me to a Facebook contest page or some nonsense. Do any of you have the same issue? Is there a fix? It’s beyong annoying and makes it pretty much impossible to visit this site. Example, it took me three attempts to load the page, click create new thread and make this post without getting the pop up.
Hello bl1tzburgh, The issue you are describing has to do with your safari browser and the most recent update. Google adsense put out a notice that describes this issue and the reasoning for it. At some point, your browser picked up a cookie that has attached itself to the cached memory in your browser. So long as your browser does no update and clear the cache it will continue to give you this alert. You will need to either force your browser to empty it's cache and refresh, or force your browser to do the latest update. If you have any questions on how to do this I can provide you with some links that have instructions.
I get it every once and a while - rarely, given how frequently I visit - on Chrome, as well. Not a worry to me, just wanted to throw it out there, in case it's helpful for you at all, Tim.
Don't know if this is relevant, but . . . I used to get those pop ups as well. Once I made sure I was using the secure version of the site's URL (https) to eliminate the log off issue, that problem went away.
Thanks for posting this Lyman as I forgot all about it. Yes, the https url will eliminate this from most browsers and it will also keep you logged into the site if you check the box to do so.
Yes, chrome is much like firefox when it comes to long term caching. Clearing the cache or hard refreshing the site will eliminate the pop up. There is also another change coming up in adsense that is going to make a move towards doing away with ads that have these kind of 'piggyback' scripts.
Welcome to the board and thanks. I have been pointing out the same thing about the redirect ad stuff and sometimes get that same one you said above and sometimes others. I feel ya on loading the page 3 times sometimes although lately it’s more like once or twice for me. I’ve brought it to Tim’s attention as something that could likely be hindering web traffic thru here and discouraging new people hopping on board like yourself so thanks for bringing awareness to the issue as well. Tim - thanks for giving us an idea why that happens and what can be done to help. Appreciate it.
Ok Tim I have another question....is the popup about opening this page in the App Store and gives me the close or open tabs something that’s ok to click on the close tab?
If you can grab me a screenshot of it I can better answer your question. It could be as simple as closing it but without being able to view the pop up it's tough to give any advice.
No worries, I’m older so that sounds like a lot of work haha , I can’t even find the button to pm you which is why I’ve been posting these questions on the board. Glad I did though bc it seems to have helped others too. I’m guessing it’s ok but would that mean live4sportnetwork has an app?
