  9. Does anyone fear Kluber a little banged up or fatigued? Thur was regular rest day for him and they pushed him back for 2day...just seems weird....Bauer was lights out

    BEREA, Ohio -- Beware!

If you're into statistics, you do not want to look at DeShone Kizer's numbers.

The rookie quarterback from Notre Dame is near the bottom of almost every NFL quarterback ranking.

-- 32nd (out of 32) in NFL rating at 50.9. 31st is Joe Flacco (65.0)

-- 32nd in third down passing at 27.4.

-- 30th in fourth quarter rating at 50.6

Through four games, Kizer is 73-of-142 for 764 yards (51.4 pct.) with three touchdowns and eight interceptions. He has been sacked eleven times.

Hue Jackson said he isn't concerned with the stats.

“We don’t get involved in numbers," Jackson said. "We want to complete more balls, there is no question, but I try not to make it about numbers. I make it about playing, playing within what we are trying to accomplish and what we are doing. I think we all know that a quarterback is not just measured by numbers; it is by winning.

"We haven’t done that part of it yet," he said. "That is the ultimate. We want better numbers because it allows the offense to stay out there more and make more plays. At the same time, I have been able to see and understand why the numbers, as you mentioned, have been the way they are.”

Kizer was asked his reaction to his numbers.

“When you are 0-4 and statistically one of the worst quarterbacks out there right now, you have to figure out where you are headed," Kizer said. "What is the path right now? What is the message? For me, it is about doing whatever I can to grow in whatever Coach decides needs to be the right room for growth for that week. In the last couple weeks, we were talking about trying not to hold onto the ball and make sure that we are throwing the ball away and not taking sacks.

"We made progress in that," he said. "This week, it is about putting the ball in playmakers hands and trying to go score points so we can go win a game. Now, it is up to me to do whatever I can this week to grow in that. Obviously, this is going to be a process. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and I am looking forward to attacking this consistently and taking on those small projects until it becomes something that we really want it to be.”

Some players are very cognizant of their statistics at all times, but Kizer said he's not one of them.

“No, you can evaluate the game in so many different ways and I think Joe (Thomas) came up here and said something about stats in itself, too," he said. "Some of those times, the stats tell a different story than what is actually happening. For the situation I am in right now in terms of my growth and my development, I know that there is specific things that I look for each week, and I want to attack those. Sometimes the stats might lean you away from the things that we are actually growing in.”

One of the knocks on Kizer coming out of college was his accuracy and at 51.4 percent, Jackson was asked if his completion percentage would be more acceptable with the taking the dropped passes by receivers into account.

“Still not where it needs to be, not for where I want our quarterback to be," he said. "I do get that he is a young player, but I think we all know that it is a unit issue all the way around. Everybody has to do their part. Sometimes throwaways are the best medicine for a quarterback. I’m teaching him how to say ‘uncle.’ He did it last week. He has to continue to do that if things are not there. It is not about completion percentage. It is about running our offense, managing our offense and taking care of the football.”

    Extra Points

Collins Still Out: LB Jamie Collins missed practice again in the concussion protocol and his status for Sunday's game with the Jets is in serious doubt. Collins has missed the last two games.

“I think he is getting closer," Jackson said after Thursday's practice. "No question he is getting closer but just not out of the protocol yet. He is definitely better than what he has been so we are closer to having him back out there.”

Jackson said that Collins is getting close to being able to do some physical activities.

“I think we are getting to that phase," he said. "Obviously, [the concussion protocol] goes through different phases. I think we are closer to that phase than we were a week ago.”

It is unlikely Collins will play Sunday against the Jets, if he is not cleared to practice Friday.

Shelton, Telfer Back: DL Danny Shelton (calf) and TE Randall Telfer (knee/ankle) were back at practice after sitting out Wednesday, as was OL Joe Thomas (knee/rest). WR Kenny Britt (knee/groin) was on the stationary bike. LB B.J. Bello (neck), WR Sammie Coates (hamstring), DL Jamie Meder (toe) and DB Jamar Taylor (ribs) were listed as limited.

Jackson said Shelton's chances of playing are good.

“Yeah, I think so," he said. "It is always good getting our players back. Myles (Garrett) is running around. Danny is running around. It is fun. One more to go.”

Meanwhile, Garrett (ankle) practiced for the second-straight day and is in line to start his first game on Sunday.

Jackson said Garrett will likely be limited on the number of snaps he plays.

“I’m sure we will have him on a pitch count," he said. "He is just now getting back to practice a week ago. He has put together a week and a half of practice, but still, he has been off for quite a while, too. I think we have to be smart about our expectations of him this weekend.”

Change the gameplan Hue you suck at being a OC ! Run the damn ball . put the kid under center .use the FB as a lead blocker . the Crow is struggling this year . when holes are there he is missing them .maybe he to occupied with his contract or his BS Activism stance ? run shorter routes get Kizer in some sort of rhythm then take your deep shots . if they don't win this Sunday we may now see one till????

I haven't given up on Kiser but his confidence has to be taken a hit . between the shit WR group and his inaccuracy maybe he should sit and let Hogan start ?

I don't know where you get that...He was pushed to game #2 for strategic reasons. Corey Kluber was absolutely the best pitcher in the majors the second half of the season, and I saw zero signs of fatigue. He told Francona he'd rather take game #2, so he'd be in line for game #5 if needed. We just happen to have the luxury of 3 aces in the rotation. It was a bold and brilliant move by Francona to roll out Bauer in game #1...That was a demoralizing loss for New York, and it put the Tribe in prime position to possibly make this a quick series...

It looks like Hue Jackson is not going to have to bench wide receiver Kenny Britt after all.

The Browns receiver is listed as doubtful after sitting out practice all week with a knee and groin injury.

In four games, Britt has eight receptions for 121 yards (15.1 avg.) with one touchdown. He also has had a couple of crucial dropped passes.

Corey Coleman is already out with a broken hand and now the team's other starting wide receiver will likely miss the game.

Bryce Treggs, who was just signed off the Eagles practice squad is expected to see playing time.

“Yes sir," Jackson said. "He is. Where he came from, the system and some of the verbiage is similar. Then he has spent a lot of time with his teammates over the last several hours or several days trying to make sure that he has it down. He is a very bright young man. I wouldn’t be surprised if he can go out there and contribute and help our football team this weekend.”

Jackson will also likely use Sammie Coates, who missed the last two games with a hamstring injury after being acquired in a trade with the Steelers. Rashard Higgins is listed as the starter in Coleman's place, while Ricardo Louis might move in to Britt's spot. Also, Kasen Williams, who was signed on Sept. 3 off waivers from the Seahawks should see more time.

“That is a good question," Jackson said laughing. "We have to go back and make sure – obviously, Treggs is here so there is a chance that he could be out there – then the other four guys, Ricardo, Rashard, obviously have Kasen and then Sammie. Sammie is healthy.”

Coleman broke his hand in a Week Two loss to Baltimore on Sept.17 and he won’t return until Nov. 19 against Jacksonville at the earliest. Jordan Leslie tore his hamstring and was waived injured last week to make room for Treggs.

Francona knows what he is doing. He's not worried about second guessers. He's got the best team and he's managing it accordingly....Did Bauer deliver, or what?

  19. TD, if he pitches game 1 isnt he still in line to pitch game 5? Im always under the impression in a short series you go w your best option to start the series....Kluber was fully rested for Thur since he pitched Sat...it worked out but Tito would have been questioned big time if they lost game 1...lets hope Kluber pitches a gem and we hit a little more 2nite
