That ^^^^^^^ is truely unfortunate. I hope to hell you reconsider.

I'll let you have him if he's the next Johnny Manziel.

If he's the next Roethlisberger, I'll be furious.

    Ugly

Browns blitzing more than any other team in the NFL. Primarily due to lack of pass rush generated by front four. Results? t-21st in sacks (6) and allowing a opposing passer rating of 100.4 through three games.

Those three QBs through their three games' ratings:

    Roethsliberger - 93.8
    Brissett - 85.8
    Flacco - 65.2

How do they get 100.4 when those three are all below that number?

Biggest letdown coming from the interior of the line. Danny Shelton (89 snaps, 45.9%) and Trevon Coley (118 snaps, 60.8%) as starters have a combined 11 tackles, 0 TFLs, 0 sacks, and 1 QB pressure.

Larry Ogunjobi seeing limited snaps (53 - 27.3%) on the interior. Total tackles? Two.
Caleb Brantley yet to make a play on defense (11 total snaps).

Help us, Myles Garrett... you're our only hope.

That's their numbers on the season, underscore the point that they're not 100.4-type QBs.

    Against the Browns, they were...

    Roethlisberger - 95.0 (+2.2)
    Flacco - 97.3 (+32.1)
    Brissett - 120.0 (-19.6)

    Just a thought SAS......

From what I have watched of the games, they have been close to a few sacks.....what looks like just a step away and the QB just gets it away. This may have to do with the defensive scheme and the secondary. How far off the WR's are the DB's going to play? That and I think the secondary needs a big upgrade as well. If they could hold coverage on the WR's just a split second more or just do a better job and play tighter coverage, many of those "just a step away from the QB" plays could turn into sacks or pressure the QB to throw a lousier pass maybe resulting in an INT. I'm not saying this is the entire problem as they sure haven't really put the pressure on. But, there may be a half dozen more possible sacks that could have occurred if the line had just a split second more time if the DB's/defensive secondary scheme had done a better job.

My bad. Just realized I was looking at their 3-game stats and not just against the Browns.

Could be a long shot, but here's a thought:

The Browns have more draft capital than they know what to do with. Yes, the more shots you take on players the better your chances of landing a good one is. But they also can use those assets to acquire an already established good player (like they did in the case of Jamie Collins). Enter Aaron Donald.

It would be a big price tag, but toss the idea out there to Los Angeles. He held out all summer and still has only signed his tender, not able to agree with the team to a long-term deal. He's without question the most dominant interior lineman in the game today. The Rams are $427,000 over the salary cap, so a massive deal for Donald is going to take careful roster management and time.

He's worked in Williams' defense (and been an All Pro doing so), is 26 years old, and if added to the roster, becomes the most talented player on the team. Looking ahead to the draft (which doesn't help this team win games until 2018 at the earliest) there are no Aaron Donald's in the Top 10. Houston's and Cleveland's picks likely will be Top 10 ones and they still have early picks in the second. Float a first rounder for him and see what happens.

I think you're completely right here. We'd get a ton more coverage sacks if we could hold up on the back end just a few steps more.

So while we're calling about Aaron Donald, float a second rounder out there for Trumaine Johnson.

That and learn how to watch for that damned TE release. How many times have teams had a wide open TE underneath against us or in the flat? :wall:

I don't know that the Browns have ever had a linebacker who could cover a tight end. That's a Cleveland tradition like no other.

Would be nice to see Schobert evolve in that role. He's only made 7 career starts but the difference in scheme already seems to have had an impact on him.

In fact, his scouting report made mention of him being mis-fit in a 3-4 system like the Browns ran when they drafted him.

yep. same....I was like, how the hell could that be? lol!

Guys we REALLY need a win. SAS, those numbers from our D-lineman are depressing. Maybe Garrett is our only hope up front. I know we haven't had much contribution from Danny Shelton, and I saw that Ogbah is on the injury report with a shoulder, though he seems to be invisible during games anyway. I'm hoping that it's really just a youth and "growing pains" situation with our defense in general. When Brissett was carving us up last Sunday, my concerns for defensive front escalated big time. There was a lot of talk from within the organization about all the improvements made on that front 7. If you can't rattle Jacoby Brissett, how are you gonna fair against Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers? I mean, are we getting better? Is this a natural thing to expect when switching the defensive approach? The aggressiveness on the blitzes doesn't bother me a bit, because I'm not sure if our CB's can cover for more than 2.7 seconds. And honestly, the Browns FO just has to look in the mirror on that, if they wanna place blame. In our pre draft discussions, I mentioned many times that I thought Cornerback was every bit as important for us to address as Safety. The 2017 draft was arguably the deepest CB draft in history, and in spite of their abundance of selections, Cleveland decided not to take one until the 4th rd (pick 126) Howard Wilson, from Houston. I'm hoping the kid can contribute, but in typical Browns fashion, he was in town about 7 minutes before suffering a major non contact injury, so who knows...

I will say McCourty has been a pleasant surprise, but I still think we should've went CB much earlier last April...Keeping fingers crossed that Howard Wilson proves me wrong...eventually.

I forget who, but I remember one defensive coordinator who said the first four regular season games were basically their preseason. With the limits on practice time, hitting, and vanilla playcalling in the preseason, you really don't get to open your playbook up until Week 1, so I do think a lot of this is natural.

If they don't get the bugs ironed out after this week (and they get the Jets as practice dummies in Week 5) then I think we're in for a long season. If they come out Week 5 and look vastly improved, even against a bad team, I think we'll be okay. As previously mentioned, run defense has significantly improved already.

I think the loss of Garrett is noticeable because in those first four weeks, because a physical freak like that can absolutely dominate even as the rest of the unit is gelling.
