I don't want to presume to speak for @Lyman, but just maybe because Kizer is playing the worst out of an 0-3 roster?

I'd like to speak to the floor warden of the Excuse Factory, please.

Browns are fifth in the NFL in dropped passes this season. Season total? 5.

Browns receivers leading the total count? Kenny Britt? 1.

As I said yesterday, wait until the official stats are tracked and we'll see that 8 number come down. Turns out, the 8 drops on Sunday went all the way down to 2. Can't be a drop pass if it's off target.

    Kizer's new numbers:

    1 throw away
    2 drops
    7 passes defenced
    15 passes off-target (3 interceptions)

    Sorry... couldn't resist.

I'm not bailing... I'm just calling a spade a spade. In fact, I didn't want to answer @Lyman's question for @IrishDawg42, but I still support giving Kizer all 16 games this season.

I'm not saying something untrue. DeShone Kizer as of 12:46 EST on the twenty-sixth day of September in the year of our Lord, 2017 is the worst starting NFL quarterback. He's earned that by virture of the lowest completion percentage in the NFL, lowest passer rating in the NFL, and highest turnover (both number and percentage) in the NFL.

How is defending my stance on the topic with facts, "making excuses"???

Am I supposed to just agree with you? You guys bitch and moan about Kizer. Irish and I are simply pointing to the obvious problems this team has, and how that effects Kizer and the bigger picture, and then you accuse us of making excuses...Wth?

I guess for me, the question is - where were these problems prior to the season? When we were going 4-0 through the preseason and even after a close lose to the Steelers, no one was hammering the offensive line, wide receivers, or Isaiah Crowell.

Fast forward to Week 2 where our QB has a historically bad game and the excuse is "he had a migraine". Or "Kenny Britt dropped a pass". I guess we'll never know what went down on the sideline, but the Week 2 loss is on only one of two people - DeShone Kizer or Hue Jackson. Compound that with the very real fact that Kevin Hogan was moving the football and scored the only points of the day. Hue Jackson sacrificed a win that day by putting Kizer back into the lineup or Kizer lied to his coach that he was fine and put himself back into a game that he then went on to lose for us.

Fast forward to Week 3 when we had an extremely winnable (probably our second-best chance all season, honestly) game against a very bad team who had been beaten twice already and were starting a second-year QB with a handful of starts and less than 13 days with the club. Kizer proceeds to have another tremendously bad outing and the excuses came pouring in: "the receivers dropped eight balls" - well, the official stat is two on the day, so no. "Jabrill Peppers missed a tackle." He didn't throw three interceptions. "There was bogus pass interference at the end!" Refs didn't complete less than 47% of their passes.

Did anyone think our wide receivers were world beaters before the season? No. In fact, I raised more of an alarm than most with harsh criticism of Corey Coleman than anyone else now blaming the wide receivers. But that suddenly, a QB who's only completing 52.8% of his passes gets a pass because of receivers? For the record, if all five tallied drops are added in, that number moves to 57.4% which takes him from worst to second-worst.

Yes, I agree that it's unfair to put it all on Kizer. But he's currently playing the worst out of 53 available men on our football team. He's dead last in completion percentage, QB rating, and QB efficiency. He's turned the ball over more than anyone else in the NFL. He's last in the NFL in time to throw (3.02 seconds). His one major attribute that everyone seems to love (arm strength) is likely what's killing this team most:

He's simply trash throwing beyond 10+ yards. 5 of 18 for 1 TD and 3 INTs against the Colts. Passer rating of 29.9.

    Re: Throwing Deep

    Week 2 -
    3 of 12 for 0 TDs and 2 INTs (rating 12.2)

    Week 1 - 6 of 15 for 0 TD and 1 INT (rating 34.9)

  7. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

    Wow. On the season:

14 of 45 for 1 TD and 6 INTs. QB rating of 21.0.

    COMP% = 31.1
    TD% = 2.2
    INT% = 13.3

I respect you SAS, which is much more than I can say for your sidekick, Buzz Killington....We'll just have to agree to disagree completely on this. Very much like the Cody K conversations...To me, it seems clear that you are missing the obvious, and just looking at the raw numbers, which I think are meaningless in this given situation....but that's fine. Whatever. You might be 100% right about Kizer. The jury is still out....I haven't anointed him the savior or anything. I just think it's completely unfair to keep pointing at the 3 week numbers, given what we know about all the other issues in this offense...

We'll see how they play this week. I know that it's going to get better eventually, but Deshone can't do it alone....Clearly this is a work in progress that is not coming along quickly enough for any of us...

If Hue Fails to commit to running the ball

And the defense again forgets how to play I expect we'll see much of the same crap we've been subjected to the last 3 weeks:wall:

I'm not sure, but do you guys get the feeling that maybe Crex would like to see us run the ball more? ;)

Personally, I'd like to see more pics posted of beautiful women. I've had enough football fun for today...

    You got it.

To make my point clear: I'm not "giving up" on Kizer. I'm giving up on the notion that he's any good and affords us the best chance to win football games this season. We can - and obviously will - disagree on who would, but to me we may not win another game with Kizer at the helm.

If that satisfies the front office and coaching staff that he's not the long-term answer, so be it. But to @Lyman's point, Hue isn't going to get a chance to go 2-31 or 1-32 if this season tanks too. Beyond losing the head coach and drafting a potential franchise QB again, I worry about the effect constant losing will have on a franchise that's trying to rebuild the image and mentality.

It's a great thing to say you want to change the culture, but thus far we gave up a perennial 5-11 average for 1-18. To me, five wins would look pretty good right about now.

And I'm not giving up on him either. But SAS has pretty effectively debunked the "drops excuse". If a ball isnt catchable, how can jt be dropped?

Beyond that, I harken back to all the expert dialog in here that assured us that a "Franchise QB" elevates the play of those surrounding him. If Kizer is good enough to force us to suffer through another dismal season in the name of development, then he should be good enough to elevate the play of his surrounding cast. If he can't . . . Then is he really the long term answer that deserves all these development snaps?

    Wow, this is just weird:

BEREA, Ohio -- The Browns were called for four offensive pass interference penalties on Sunday in Indianapolis. Monday, head coach Hue Jackson said the team would be seeing what the league thought of all four of those calls.

"We will see," Jackson said. "We will petition the NFL and see what they think. I think some of them were things that we need to understand better, but I will be interested to see how they saw it."

Two of the four penalties wiped out third-down conversions -- one by Seth DeValve in the first quarter on a 25-yard pass he caught and another by Rashard Higgins in the third quarter on 17-yard pass DeValve caught. Higgins was flagged for another in the third quarter and Ricard Louis was flagged with 23 second left in the game on the Browns' last-ditch effort to try and force overtime.

"These are not new plays," Jackson said. "These are the same things we have been running since training camp so I am not going to sit here and tell you that our players are at fault. I would like to, like I said, get the ruling back from the league and see what they say because some things I don't agree with."

It wasn't just the pass interference penalties that irked Jackson. There was a roughing the passer call against Nate Orchard in the second quarter that left Orchard holding his palms towards the Lucas Oil Stadium ceiling and Jackson shaking his head on the sideline.

Hmmmm. What an excuse maker...Can you believe that? A coach pointing out the obvious. What is the world coming to?

So if the ball hits the receiver in the phucqking hands, we don't need to expect him to catch it...Is that what you and SAS are saying...that's great...then we have a GREAT set of receivers on this team. Get rid of the QBs, they will just run the ball since the receivers don't need to catch it anyway.

I was just gonna let that one go, but thanks Irish. Exactly my thoughts. I was wondering how this was proven by SAS in Lym's view. lol!...These guys know. Especially you guys that played organized football in high school or beyond. DROPPED PASSES RUIN EVERYTHING. There is no flow to the offense. It's arguably the most deflating thing in the history of mankind. There's no way you can point to the numbers and say, "Yep. This is more on Kizer than anyone else. It's not more on ANYONE. It's a breakdown in the machine. This is on almost all our skill guys. Other than Duke, this offense has been a fail so far from the coaches on down the line. Cincy broke out of their funk, as did the Jets and Jags and Redskins and probably a couple others I'm not thinking of right now, and guess what? We're next...and if not this week, the week after etc...Until these guys catch the ball and help our QB out a little, it's not gonna be pretty...That's football. It takes 11 for success. We will get it together. Have faith my fellow Browns fans...When I watch Kizer play, I still see potential greatness. And I still see a potentially great coach in Hue. And a great front office that has a real plan...The sky is not falling. Kizer will be fine. This guy has a great arm, and fantastic mobility. Gotta give him a real chance. Three games of shit doesn't cut it...He needs to step it up too, and he will. He needs confidence and right now his team is not allowing it to happen because of WAY too many breakdowns and of course a nice dose our usual horrific fortune on everything. Officials. Bounces. Bad pre game meals. Uncomfortable hotel beds. You name it. (yes stopper. some of these were just for you)..But it'll turn for us ...Lets just back off the ledge and see how it goes against Cincy in our second home game.

Because the official stats that hold everyone accountable to the same level gave the Browns a total of TWO drops in that game.

Here’s a real world example that maybe can help:

A mother trips and drops her newborn in your immediate path. You can barely reach it and maybe try to catch it, but the baby falls through your hands. 99% of us understand the situation. Much like Kizer’s throws it’s in the wrong place at the wrong time.

You and Irish are the mother that tries to sue the passer-by for “dropping her kid”.

  19. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

And you are the idiot that thinks a ball that hits a receiver in BOTH hands is un-catchable. I see your point now...Except, you are in the 1% if you think there were only 1-2 drops in the Colts game...EVERYONE except you and someplace that you pulled stats from...well and apparently Lyman now...knows there were 8 drops in that game, simply by watching the damn game.

Wth? Wow.ok... Fine. We're done. Kizer sucks...Is that the better mindset to have, SAS??

Are you calling me a flake because I'm not ready to put all this mess on Kizer? lol!
