2017 Season The Good, Bad and Ugly

  1. Bama is suppose to be so good at developing OL and RBs...how is that working out in the NFL?

WTF was that? Three unrelated quotes with some of your texting gibberish in the middle.

What the hell does that have to do with price of tea in china or (alleged) O-linemen from Free Shoes University?

  4. Not sure what that is lol...my point is Suggs lined up over Thomas

  5. The price is Bama has all these 1st round picks and most of them fail

  6. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

So what does that have to do with FSU?

    Week 3

    Good

Offensive line. The line continues to play well with respect to protecting a young quarterback.

Run defense. Held up again (2.5 YPC average). Unfortunately, they allowed a more mobile QB to hurt them with his legs (2 touchdowns). If they had better linebacker player - and maybe if Jamie Collins doesn't miss that game - there's a chance they don't give up those 14 points.

Duke Johnson Jr. The best skill position player on this team and it's not close. They need to take the game out of Kizer's hands (and Hue Jackson's, by proxy) and into Duke's. It may also be time to admit Crowell doesn't have a future fit with the Browns and start giving the looks to Johnson Jr. and Dayes.

    Bad

The Browns receivers. Elevating Jordan Leslie off the practice squad to play underscores the gravity of the receiver situation in Cleveland. Kenny Britt was dogged - somewhat rightfully - this season but also bailed his QB out a couple times yesterday. Losing Corey Coleman was a big blow and that's a scary thought because he's a marginal receiver at this point in his career.

Letting Terrelle Pryor walk continues to be a terrible choice.

    Ugly

Jamar Taylor. He was burned repeatedly in the secondary. Part of that was probably due to them going away from Jason McCourty - who played very well.

Jabill Peppers. Much like Taylor/McCourty, Peppers was picked on as the Colts went away from Derrick Kindred. Peppers looked lost and was slow in his reads against Jacoby Brissett. Let that sink in.

Offensive pass interference. I can't remember the last time there were 4 OPIs called in a season on a team, let alone a game. Youth and inexperience, I suppose (2 on Higgins, 1 on Louis, 1 on DeValve - all second-year players).

    New Category: Shizer

DeShone Kizer. Gets his own category until he stops playing like the worst QB we've ever had start multiple a game for us. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening in 2017. Unbelievably, he's regressed in his three starts and looks flat-out lost.

Giving away his garbage time stats (starting at the 8:48 minute drive), which were: 7 of 14 (50.0%), 79 yards, 1 passing TD, 1 interception, 1 rushing TD here's his line for the game:

    15 of 33 (45.5%) for 163 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs, 45.4 QB rating

That's how DeShone Kizer played for 52 of 60 minutes.

Hue Jackson. Jackson saddled us with an inept, unprepared rookie QB because he wants to throw the ball around the field. He lies when he insists he wants to establish the running game - he has no interest in that whatsoever. His clock management skills are terrible. His gameplans are terrible. He needs to be relieved of play-calling duties immediately. If he can't right this ship by the BYE Week, maybe he needs to be replaced completely.

THE GOOD: Duke Johnson and the Colts cheerleaders....They were the only things worth watching.

THE BAD: Take your pick, plenty to choose from...

THE UGLY: The drunk dancing Browns fan standing in front of Kizer's parents when CBS tried to show them in the stands...lol!

THE GOOD: We have the absolute best Anthem Kneel in the entire NFL.

    What else matters?

    Good

    Bad

Hunt: "I’m going to be a Browns fan till I die," Hunt told reporters Thursday at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. "I’ve been a Browns fan growing up, I’ll be a Browns fan 'til I’m done playing football."

Hunt, who is projected as a third-round pick, said he'd be ecstatic to be able to play for his hometown Browns, despite the franchise's continual losing.

    Good:

Montana State defeated the#17 ranked team 49-21.

The University of Montana blew a 24-6 halftime lead to lose 48-41.

    Bad:

In three games the browns seem to be heading in the wrong direction. Instead of getting better they seem to be getting worse

Kizer is on pace to throw 40 ints compared to less than 20 tds
Guess that is to be expected when you ask a rookie to throw 40+ times a game

Despite having a good run game.

The defense is regressing as well. Not pressuring opposing QBs. 80percent of brissets yards came on completions over 20 yards

    Ugly:

Pit and Bal lost to teams that are supposed to be bottom feeders as well

Cin took a perrenial playoff team to OT.

It is incredibly difficult to find any wins in the schedule after this weekend.

Browns are currently favored to "earn" the number one overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft - over 18% likelihood, per sports betting.

    Good

This is a pretty awesome quarterback.

All very true, he would make an even better backup to DeShone Kizer than either Kevin Hogan or Cody Kessler!!! It's time to start filling in the depth on this team, might as well begin at QB.

Good: Draft talk, there's never a bad time to talk about college talent

Bad: The fact that all these guys SAS are talking about have eligibility left in college, one or all could stay for another year at their schools.

Ugly: The fact we are in the talk for the #1 overall pick again..and it's OUR pick, not the Texans..although they could also be in the top 5 the way they look as well.

I thought it was tradition that we don't reference next year's draft until after Halloween?:(

GOOD: We have lots of picks in the 2018 draft...

BAD: We are already talking about them

    UGLY: Yes it is....

    Question for Irish:

Are you willing to give Kizer the entire season with which to develop his skills? (even if it means going 0-16)

Or, is there some point where it becomes obvious that he's not progressing at a fast enough pace? What is that point?

  19. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Yes, for the exact same reason Sam has already pointed out. If he lasts 16 games unharmed and does not progress, we need to draft the best QB prospect in the 2018 draft at #1 overall. I am not all in on DeShone Kizer. I want him to be the player I hope he can be, but if he doesn't show the progress, there are definitely some nice prospects coming out in 2018. We just don't know how many of those nice prospects stay in school or declare for the draft at this point. I want a QB for this team period, whether that player is already on the team and needs developed or we find him in the 2018 draft. This team is being built with or without that guy, so I want that guy in place when the TEAM is ready to compete for the Super Bowl.

Edit: For the record, I do not believe in Hogan or Kessler giving this team the best opportunity to win as built. The TEAM needs to do a lot of maturing to be at the point to win games. Kizer, despite what you are all feeling, is not the sole reason for this team losing...Hogan went in for a quarter and a half and threw an interception as well. It's the TEAM as a whole that needs seasoning, it could take another 1 win season to get them to another level. We will see in the coming weeks as there are 3 teams in a row that we are capable of beating if they progress.
