You enjoy walking right? If you don't like being outside during the winter get on a treadmill at the gym or find an indoor walking path. Don't stop just because the seasons change Cat. That would push your goal back quite a bit.

^^oh no i can't do that anymore!! I gotta stay very active in the winter time from now on. i saw first hand last winter what inactive does to my waistline.

  4. Hey Catfish,

Consider adding more water to your regimen. It makes you feel more full and being hydrated is good for every system in your body. I have a half gallon jug at home I'm refilling all the time. I start with a jug of ice water first thing in the AM, and then bring it to work and the gym. You should drink before you start to feel thirsty because at that point you're already getting dehydrated. I have to go to the bathroom all day, but hey it's flushing out my kidneys.

Best of luck in your fitness and weight loss goals!

This is something that works great so long as I actually remember to do it.

Do you know anything about adding protein powders to your daily intake? I have a friend that swears by it and supplements a meal a day with some basic whey that he gets from Walmart.

If you go the way of protein powder, I think the quality of your protein powder is essential to helping to build strong muscles. I'm not sure if I would be buying mine at Walmart but researching the topic should help you make an informed choice. I've used protein powders in the past but never noticed much difference in my workout. Have you ever used it Tim?

This worked for me one time, stay away from any food that they make in a factory that has a corporate name on it. You have to pretend you're living in the 1800s, stay away from anything fried (french fries, wings, chicken fingers). Stay away from processed sugar, get your sugar from fruit.

    Don't eat bread.

  13. I know Tom Brady swears by protein powder, and adds electrolytes to his water. I couldn't follow his diet though. Would make Babyfan's kale salads seem like a delectable treat.

That's good information skinny; I especially like the idea of not eating food with a corporate company's name on it.

    I follow 2 rules.
#1 No processed foods allowed at all. No exceptions. Processed foods are filled with sodium, sugar and additives. I don't have foods that come in cans or boxes in my kitchen.
#2 Do not eat any food that is white with the exception of cauliflower and leeks. That means no white sugar, white flour, white potatoes, white rice or bread. That means lots of sweet potatoes, quinoa and millet.

LOL watch it blitzzzz-poo ... or I'll send a memo out to Canada and make them serve you ONLY kale when you're visiting here.
    Yes, I have that power ... :)

lol, I read into Tom's diet plan when they were discussing his book release. There's no way on God's green earth that I could abide by something like that.

From what I'm reading, adding whey staves off hunger and helps to maximize your metabolic rate, but I think I'm getting the equivalent with the egg whites I have incorporated into just about every meal.

When I was playing hockey we used weight gaining milkshake mix that was basically a protein powder. I'd mix that up with some raw eggs, a big spoonful of peanut butter and a banana. I don't know how much it helped back then because my largest growth spurt actually happened around that time.

I eat a lot of fresh produce; kale, tomatoes, celery, cucumbers, onions, tons of garlic, seaweed, carrots, leaf or romaine lettuce, turnips, cabbage, broccoli, leeks, peppers, organic corn, quinoa, millet, wild or brown rice, apples, lemons, oranges, melons, berries, almonds, peanuts, cashews (unsalted), coconut, coconut oil, olive oil, oatmeal, homemade breads (whole wheat, molasses, raisin bread, and the odd french bread for a treat), and some homemade desserts. I do a lot of cooking and baking. I have been running my own catering business since the early 1990's (I did jobs while I was teaching at the high school) and my selling point for my food is that it is all made from scratch, using fresh ingredients and it's healthy and delicious.

What do you eat Cat? :)

That's pretty healthy and balanced. I'm not a big fan of peanut butter but I can get that protein in other ways.

So if you played hockey you must live in ....
