lol! You didn't like the mustard uni's? At least you could see the numbers clearly. San Fran had a nice look, but it was hard to pick up those reflective numbers. I sort of like the color rush idea. It gives teams an excuse to wear something wild....I hate to say it, but I guess it's okay since there's never any Bengals fans around; Those "white tiger" uni's were pretty cool. Wonder if the Browns would ever go all orange? I guess I'll worry about that when we actually play well enough to warrant a primetime game... Cleveland did not officially list Myles Garrett as OUT for Sunday. Does anybody think he makes his NFL regular season debut this weekend?
I'm thinking they make sure he's healthy even if it takes longer. Would rather have him get some experience in 10 games than bring him back early and re-injure himself and lose the rest of the season.
I don't know, TD. I find it rather comical that these new wild (AKA Gawd-awful) is what the NFL is trying to attract new/younger fans. WTF is wrong with people if this is what they're focused on and not the game itself?!?! Maybe they should dose the beverages in the stadium with some ADD meds instead.
Idk...It's the same in college. You would think Ohio State wouldn't need to resort to such gimmicks, but they do, and they say it absolutely helps in recruiting. The younger generation wants to sting the eyeballs evidently. Look at all the tattoos these days. I don't know what the hell "normal" is anymore??? If some 5 star recruit decides he's going to be a Buckeye because of the threads we wear, than that's fine with me. I did like those black helmets with the red Buckeyes all over it, I guess...
The game had a little bit of everything. I didn't say it was a thing of beauty. I said entertaining...Full of huge plays and not decided until the final minute. Highest scoring Thursday night game ever (41-39)... Would you rather watch a game like last Thursday's scintillating Bengals vs Texans puntfest or what? lol!
Lol I did think this was a better game than the epic showdown in Cincy last Thursday of course. Also it's obvious the Rams are not the same circus that they were last season. Jared Goff is playing like a competent QB and Todd Gurley is able to run well because of that. Still, it's a testament to how bad and mistake-prone the 49ers really are that they couldn't take advantage of the multitude of mistakes the Rams made last night to at least hold the Rams to less than 39 points. As for the Rams, the 49ers were prevented from reaching the end zone at all the first two games, so what really does that say about the Rams' defense as a unit? I prefer to see some good defense in my football too, so I'm not exactly privy to watching two sloppy teams back their way into a shootout.
Goff is for real. I enjoy seeing a young QB develope. You know, as long as it's not a Steeler or Raven QB.. JG was going through progressions like a seasoned pro and delivering with impressive accuracy all night. I understand the level of competition, but a 145.6 QB rating is an eye catcher. SF actually has a beasty D-line with all those Pac 12 monsters, but Jared didn't flinch. In the face of pressure, he knew where his outlets were, and he looked 100% better than that trainwreck we saw under Steve Fisher. I'll admit that I was more of a Carson Wentz fan when they came out of college, but Goff has really stepped his game up. Right now IMO, it looks like both were worthy of being drafted high.... I still think the Browns did the right thing in building up the team by trading down that year....If I'm not mistaken, that trade has led to like a dozen or so players for the Browns, including Deshone Kizer, whom I think will be very good. That's what you pretty much have to do when ya strip everything down to the brass tacks and start a massive rebuild...We'll see how everything works out, but I do have an appreciation for what Sashi Brown and this FO is trying to accomplish. The plan makes sense to me...
The Cleveland Browns are favorites today against the Indianapolis Colts. It is a rare thing to see but is more a sign of how bad the Colts are than how good the Browns are. If we are being fair, the Browns seem more "not terrible anymore" than anything close to good. That doesn't mean winning isn't important, in fact, it is very important. When Jimmy Haslam hired Sashi Brown and Hue Jackson, the plan was to take the slow, steady approach to winning games. No shortcuts. No big name, high priced free agents to try to skip the process along quickly. The plan that Brown, along with Andrew Berry and Paul DePodesta, laid out was one that expected the Browns to compete for a .500 record, and maybe a Playoff spot, in the 2018 season. Going 1 - 15 in Year 1 was not welcomed but it was not surprising. Year 2 was expected to be a stepping stone towards being competitive with expectations of wins. The next three weeks are a test of where the plan is. Losing to the Steelers and Ravens is expected in Year 2. The best of the AFC North were bound to give the Browns trouble so competing in Week 1 was exciting. Week 2 was a step back from Week 1, but was not a definitive statement about where the Browns are in their process. Starting today, the Browns have three straight opponents that the team is expected to be as good or better than. The Colts are without Andrew Luck, who is basically their whole offense. Then next week, the Bengals come to town with a far worse start than the Browns so far this season. The stretch ends with the Jets, a team who are where the Browns were last year: tearing it down. The Browns must win two of the next three weeks to show that their plan is in place and doing well. There are generally three tiers in the NFL: Top tier Playoff teams, middling teams going up or down that could compete for a Playoff spot and those with little to no chance to make the Playoffs. The Steelers are in the top tier and the Ravens seem to be in the middle group. The Colts, with Luck, are a middling team. Without him they are at the bottom. The Bengals have quickly fallen out of the top of the middle group and are near the bottom of it now. The Jets clearly have no chance to make the Playoffs. Competing with a top tier is fine. Losing to a team in the middle group can be acceptable. The expectation in Year 2 is that the Browns can beat most of the teams in the lowest tier and should be able to compete and beat those near the bottom of the middling group. The Browns will have a chance to show that "The Plan" is where they expect it to be in the next three weeks. It is unlikely that the team can make a huge jump from losing to these type of teams this year to beating most of those in the middle group next year. Expectations are a heck of a thing. While Halsam should have reasonable expectations for the team this year, there still are expectations and the Browns have to meet them. Losing two out of the next three could lead to a lot of pressure from the owner's box and front office toward Jackson and his staff. Winning at least two out of the next three could lead to the development of hope, and a 2 - 3 record, going into an interesting stretch against three middle of the pack teams: Texans, Titans and Vikings. They have to get through this stretch with a positive record first. Do you think the Browns are in a "must win" stretch in Year 2? Author Jared Mueller @TheOBR
Mr Mueller....this stretch has nothing to do w any plan...they culd start out 0-5 and win their next 5 or start out 2-3 and lose their next 5...the bottom line is win or lose..yes circumstance can enhance that like Luck missing the game so if they win 17-14 it doesnt count?
