Wrong, if you were watching the game, Thomas was handling Suggs quite well this time around, to the point that Suggs lined up the majority of the game on the left side of the defense, over the right tackle. They were discussing it on the broadcast.
Here's a good read on some of the "ugly" that Hue is dealing with: http://www.cleveland.com/browns/ind...ns_hue_jackson_is_pulli.html#incart_big-photo
As I said before, no one on these boards have called for Hue's head, but there are some on other places I talk Browns football that are... Has Kizer missed 8 wide open receivers on the year yet? Let alone in a single game. If he misses 8 wide open receivers, then by all means come in and complain to your hearts content. All I am saying is losing to the Steelers and Ravens is not a sky is falling occurrence. I want to see them against teams that have a more comparable roster before I throw stones. Never mind...everyone complain away, I'll shut up and just ignore the boards until they win...my opinion doesn't matter.
I was watching and saw him bull rush Thomas into the QBs lap and then a rookie in his 1st game blow by him on 4th down....facts
Irish and SAS already pointed out that Suggs lined up over the Right Tackle (that's the one five players away from Thomas) most of the game. I submit that if Thomas had gone to that POS school in Tallahassee, you wouldn't be all over his jock.
I think more confusing is the one run behind Joe Thomas. Last season, the Thomas-Crowell running game was also league-best at either 7.3 or 7.5 YPC.
Who said losing our first two is a "sky is falling" scenario? Did anybody REALLY think we'd be anything but 0-2 at this point? Geez man...Lighten up. Who is throwing stones? And yes, I'm positive Kizer has missed at least 8 open receivers. I put the article out yesterday that clearly showed him missing Britt at least five times, just in the Ravens game...It happens. Nobody is calling for his benching or anything. And I haven't complained at all about Deshone Kizer. I get where we are in this. Steelers and Ravens are tough. Pretty sure we all understand that...I've said many times that I've been nothing but impressed with Deshone since we drafted him. That doesn't mean I think he's perfect though...Not sure why you take it personal if somebody complains about a bad decision or play he made. There are things we'd all like to see Kizer improve on, that's all. Recognizing defenses and getting the ball out quicker would be at top of my list....With the schedule softening up, more will be expected...
He was at least 0-3 in Baltimore throwing to open receivers and I know that because he was 3-0 on interceptions when missing those open receivers. I'll try to dig up how many misses thus far. Here's Football Outsiders, an analytics website, that measures QBs based on derived stats. Kizer is currently 31st (out of 33), ahead of only Andy Dalton and Brian Hoyer. His DYAR (Defense-Adjusted Yards Above Replacement) is 31st (-61.6%). His QBR is 31st (18.3). Contrasted with Kevin Hogan (a smaller sample size, certainly) who's DYAR is +3.0 and QBR of 74.3 (which would be tied for fifth-best). His 3.23 seconds 'til release are last in the NFL. Here's his passer chart from Week 2: First thing that jumps out to me is he attempted fewer downfield passes than Cody Kessler averaged in 2016. #cannonarm Next thing is he was an absymal 3 of 12 for no TDs and 2 INTs. On 11 of those 12, he was given a clean pocket. So it's one of two things: Either Kizer cost us a game with one of the worst QB performances in Browns' history, or Hue Jackson did putting him back into the lineup when he was clearly having one of the worst QB performances in Browns' history. I'm not a Hogan Honk, like some folks... Spoiler ... but the prudent move would have been to play Hogan the rest of that game and possibly get a win. I think we all agree that the defense - despite allowing a 34-year old TE to run roughshod - was performing well in that game. The 10 points were all Hogan's. We could have made a game of it.
I thought 1-1 and after watching the Steelers game though Baltimore was a lock. [EDIT]: Pretty sure I said 5-1 in the DPL or one of those other threads, actually.
Didn't you also predict we'd go 10-6 if Kessler starts every game, 2-14 if it's Kizer, and 0-16 if its Hogan or Osweiller?? Or perhaps I'm pulling a page from Roger Clemons' book, and I'm "mis-remembering".....Anyway. Who cares? I understand that. I always predict wins...Is it safe to say, us emerging from the first couple games at 0-2, wasn't the shock of the century? That's all I mean....We all knew 0-2 was a possibility if not a probability...
This made me think about all the great offensive linemen from FSU. I can only think of one truly great one and one good one who's active in the NFL. There's HOFer Walter Jones and Raiders' center Rodney Hudson. The last offensive lineman drafted with NFL experience from FSU was Cam Erving. Otherwise: - Giants' 2015 seventh-round pick Bobby Hart starts at right tackle for the team. The Giants have allowed 8 sacks in two games and have a team figure of 3.2 yards per carry. Unlike teams like the Browns, the Giants' problems clearly lie with their oft-criticized offensive line. Hart himself isn't the worst piece of that line, but he's not good regardless. He's currently dealing with an ankle injury that kept him from practicing yesterday and may not play against the Eagles on Sunday. - Patriots' 2015 fourth-round pick Tre Jackson started for the team in his rookie year but hasn't played a single snap since. The Patriots' offensive line was a weak spot all year. - Patriots' 2014 fourth-round pick Bryan Stork started on the team that won Super Bowl XLIV. He retired after two years in the NFL (and missing all of 2016) due to neck injuries and concussions. - Raiders' 2013 second-round pick Menelik Watson was signed by the Broncos this past offseason to a lucrative deal averaging $6 million per year. Made of glass, he missed most of his rookie year and all of 2015 to injury, having yet to play a full season. He's allowed 6 sacks in two games with the Broncos, and 7 of the 8 sacks the Raiders allowed last season came from the right tackle position where he started for five games. I can keep going back. Mario Henderson was a mediocre tackle drafted by the awful Raiders in 2007 who played for them for four years. Alex Barron, the Rams' first-round pick in 2005, was infamous for his holding penalties and was probably primarily responsible for shortening Marc Bulger's career.
Speaking of one of my bad calls...I know he's not FSU guy, but did anybody see how bad Ziggy Ansah was beating Ereck Flowers the other night? Holy shit, I felt sorry for the big oaf. He looked bewildered. Watching him struggle all night, it really gave me a true appreciation for just how good Joe Thomas is. I was obviously wrong about Flowers. Thought he'd make a solid OT in the NFL...Though in my defense, I saw him as a power RT, road grader type. Not sure wth the G-men are doing. Dude does not belong over there on Manning's blind side. They gonna get Eli killed...
