Will, before I get carried away with this whole asian thing, I'll just say the the prime motivating factor is greed.

The owners want to attract chinese money to the nhl, chinese investment, buying up teams. The owners have dreams of their teams values doubling overnight, just like the housing market in Vancouver after the chinese came there.

 

We are nowhere close to seeing an NHL team anywhere besides North America for quite a while. Expansion beyond the continent is a mission to the next galaxy at this point, but sports marketing and merchandising would be a gold mine in JHYNA.

 

No way they expand there for at least another 30-50 years, but the face of ownership could change, Wang went back to his country many times to try and sell the idea of ownership.

 

Broons were the first on the China express i think. theyve had Chinese ads on the boards for a few years now and some other teams have similar ads, featuring a cartoonish Pastrnak.

 

will the NHL last another 30-50 years? I'll be dead by then, but wow that's crazy to think of? If McDavid makes $13.5 mil now, what will the NHL player of the future make? $75-100 mil a year? Will they have the Wile E. Coyote Acme Rocket Skates on ? lol

Slashing calls are up, also faceoffs are gonna be a pain now, refs clamping down on cheating on the draw.

I honestly never understood how someone can "cheat" on a face-off. What? Do you throw cat litter into your opponent's eyes just before the puck drops? Reeeeecockulous. I'm sure the rule book explains how the face-off works. Maybe the refs are too inept to enforce what's in the book. Here it is... Rule 54:

Here, I'll respond to myself, the training camp roster is large enough where they could ice two full rosters, done.

 

Of all the things to clamp down on they pick faceoffs... buncha tards! Slashing I get, but some of those calls are ridiculous too.

Ive seen this all before. They go overboard in Preseason and early in the season and then everything reverts back to the same-ol'-same ol'

In my opinion what really matters is the way the playoffs are called... I really would like to see some consistency throughout the season as well as into the playoffs. Ive watched the preseason games and the flow is constantly being interrupted by dumb calls. Come playoffs... anything goes.

 

in last night's flyers-isles game, the ref tossed a player on the circle not faceoff dot for coming into the circle too early twice and gave him 2 min for delay of the game! never seen that before. the player was laughing at the ref in the box.

 

last night the flyers played the islanders at their AHL affiliate site-Allentown. The ice was covered in ads. more than usual. both zones were filled with them. never seen it before. i know many fans don't want the jerseys covered in ads etc, so i guess the ice is the most logical spot for them. easy way to make money!

 

The ice, or the boards? Seems if they put a bunch of junk on the ice it would really make seeing the puck difficult for us viewers, lol.
