Bears not benching Mike Glennon for Mitchell Trubisky Orr, Conor The Chicago Bears aren't moving on from quarterback Mike Glennon, yet. Head coach John Fox defended his QB following the team's loss to the Buccaneers, saying "everybody had their hand in that." ...read more
Anyone else starting to feel like Fox wanted Glennon and not a rookie and this is why he is hell bent on starting Glennon? I can't figure out why he is so adamant about keeping this guy out there beyond being completely clueless and out of touch on what you need to do to win football games on offense.
Coaches can be incredibly stubborn. Remember J'Marcus Webb? Dude was a liability but Mike Tice kept playing him because he was his personal little "project" and he wanted to prove everybody wrong. They don't want to admit they made a mistake paying Glennon all that money by benching him. Also, Fox is probably pissed nobody told him they were going to draft Trubisky. These damn coaches and their egos.
If I was a betting man I'd put him pulling the trigger after the Thursday night Packer game. They follow it up with a Monday night game. Plenty of time for prep.
I agree with this. By naming Glennon the starter this week he is also naming him the starter for week 4 being a Thursday night game. That would make Monday night at home VS the Vikings a logical time to start the Trubisky era.
The 2nd half of this past Sunday's game was a logical time to start the Trubisky era. The 5 yard offense isn't working.
That's one of many BS arguments being thrown around. Glennon had plenty of time to throw most of Sunday and was only sacked a couple times. Jeff Dickerson of ESPN wrote a column this morning refuting that point and several others he's heard over the last 24 hours: 3. The Bears don’t have enough weapons for Trubisky: Now, the part about lacking weapons on offense is true. Chicago’s two starting wide receivers -- Cameron Meredith and Kevin White -- are on injured reserve, running back Jordan Howard is a shell of his former self, and there are injuries all across the offensive line. But are the Bears supposed to wait until they have Pro Bowlers at every skill position before they play Trubisky? Have you watched the Bears over the past decade? That could take 20 years. Look, there’s simply no perfect time to play Trubisky. Sorry. You can’t wait on stuff like that. Trubisky plays football. He’s going to get tackled. He’s going to get sacked. He’s going to throw interceptions. Receivers will drop his passes. That’s the life of a quarterback. But in terms of the club’s talent level improving -- perhaps the Bears can actually begin to attract higher-profile free agents if Trubisky turns out to be the real deal. Talent knows talent. Catch my drift? But you won’t find out with Trubisky on the bench. http://www.espn.com/blog/chicago-be...sky-offers-bears-short-and-long-term-benefits
Before we had someone try to say the Bears couldn't draft a QB until the situation was right. Now they drafted one and we can't play him until the situation is right. So now all we gotta do is get 2 stud receivers, 4 or 5 Pro Bowl offensive linemen, a new OC, a new HC, a new waterboy, cable TV in the lockeroom, and wait for day that it's 79 and sunny.....and then maybe, just maybe, Trubisky can play.
Yeah definitely wouldn't want to expose him to Bear weather. And given how bad the turf always is at Soldier Field, definitely too big of an injury risk right there. Maybe he can only play in warm weather road games or in domes, but of course only after we've assembled several Pro Bowl o-linemen and stud WRs and the right HC/OC. Question though, why isn't anyone saying these same things about Deshaun Watson or Deshaun Kizer? Those franchises will be sorry they didn't place them in bubble wrap like we're doing with Trubs.
Another way to look at it in my opinion is when Pace stepped up his " guy " maybe he should have just said right then and there I drafted him for next season not this season so chill out fans , yes I know it will be ugly but keep coming out to the games and enjoy yourselves. That being said I see the change coming after the GB game , gives him extra time to get ready for game 5 . Now if it doesn't happen I have to believe as fans that go to the games will let their voices be heard and also be looking at a ton of no shows as well.
Ways that Ryan Pace looks bad: Glennon starts all season, giving Trubisky no playing time. An awful QB keeps playing, and the #2 overall pick doesn't see the field. Glennon is pulled by midway through the season, and Trubisky is given the reigns. $15+ million goes wasted on a QB who should've never been allowed to start. Glennon is pulled late in the season, wasting any hope of a constructive season or allowing for momentum. Trubisky gets a few meaningless games, likely with a lame duck coaching staff/front office (the latter being less likely than the former). Ways that Ryan Pace looks good: ... When he picked Trubisky, I was upset. I wasn't upset about Trubisky - I hope the kid turns out to be a star, and the Bears' savior at QB. I was upset because, if Trubisky is successful, Pace is going to be here a long time. And, during that time, he probably doesn't make the team good enough to go all the way, wasting our QB anyway (pessimistic, I know, but Pace hasn't given me reason to be confident, and we've seen this scenario play out with more good QB's than not). If Trubisky sucks, Pace is out of town with him, but that's going to take 3-ish years to really determine (more if Pace keeps delaying his playing time - something that keeps Pace in a job a year longer. Not saying, just saying), and we're going to have languished in poor play for even longer. That three turnover performance this past weekend from Glennon was almost in Todd Collins territory. I mean, nothing can ever be that bad, but that's not the region you want to be occupying, or the performance you want to be associated with.
That to me is the logical place to start him. But since that is logical and makes sense, trust the BEars not to do it
Tanner Gentry waived. The one WR who had chemistry Trubs. Doesn't matter how thin we are at WR, at least we have 5 TEs. Winner!
Maybe they could bring back Roy "What I Got" Williams, because he's probably a couple steps slower so he should fit right in and you won't have to worry about him outrunning Glennon's arm. Seems like the Bears solution to me because with 8 defenders in the box it isn't crowded enough up there, perfect!
