Many Americans think Mexicans are stealing all the good jobs they should have, but are too lazy to get off the couch to apply for. The opinions of mass Americans, or mass amount of people in any country, is moot. People collectively....tend to be stupid.
were you there? you better read that link i posted bc im pretty sure no one is saying lewis killed those 2 people. threw a punch-yes. lied to the cops-yes. turned on his 2 friends who were in the fight to get a deal-yes. killed 2 people - NO! WHOA Bears-not human life. the hiring of a human. the hiring of Kap is not life or death, so it's certainly not HUMAN LIFE. then move to Canada since you don't care about the flag, our anthem or nationalism!
were you there? you better read that link i posted bc im pretty sure no one is saying lewis killed those 2 people. threw a punch-yes. lied to the cops-yes. turned on his 2 friends who were in the fight to get a deal-yes. killed 2 people - NO! I wasn't there, nor were you. I've read a million links about the story from a lot of different angles. There are still a ton of question marks. No one can definitely say he didn't kill someone. I have doubts on it. WHOA Bears-not human life. the hiring of a human. the hiring of Kap is not life or death, so it's certainly not HUMAN LIFE. The issues he is standing, or kneeling if you will, for is about human life. Social injustice is about human life. then move to Canada since you don't care about the flag, our anthem or nationalism! Oh, blow me catfish. You may shit red, white, and blue but that doesn't mean every American has to. The best thing about this country is we are free to disagree with it. Not liking something or not agreeing with something doesn't mean someone has to leave. The love it or leave it bullshit is ridiculous. I care about American citizens. I care about social and economic health and equality. I don't give two shits about a piece of cloth or a corny song. Nationalism is silly. You aren't a better person than someone else because of the soil you were born on.
Seriously, Cat - "love it or leave it"...? You're not allowed to engage in lawful, peaceful protest? “Patriotism is, fundamentally, a conviction that a particular country is the best in the world because you were born in it....” ― George Bernard Shaw “Our true nationality is mankind.” ― H.G. Wells “Nationalism is an infantile thing. It is the measles of mankind.” ― Albert Einstein “I should like to be able to love my country and still love justice.” ― Albert Camus
Why are we so concerned about a millionaire's rights. At the end of the day he is still going to be a millionaire and we will work 40 hours a week to live pay check to pay check. Nobody is telling him he can't kneel during a national anthem being played, just that he isn't doing it from the bench on our sideline. Nobody is taking his millions away from him. Nobody is harming him at all.
Someone brought up the point earlier that I've never understood, for the life of me: that a cop is in a potentially dangerous, potentially life-threatening situation, and that missteps on their part are accordingly excused. I've been a public school teacher, in some capacity, all of my adult life. I work all kinds of hours, dealing with kids that don't always want to be learning, and I'm not given any real authority to make them do so. If I do my job poorly, I'm out the door. No one makes the excuse for me that I'm dealing with a difficult situation. If I accidentally curse, I'm reprimanded, and if a parent complains enough, I'm out the door. I left my full-time position because I was being paid well below minimum wage for the time I invested in the job (never less than twelve hours a day, six days a week, with Sunday requiring me to further prepare for the coming week), I was constantly harassed by parents and, subsequently, superiors, and the district/state was continually changing our standards and regulations. At no point was I given the break of, "It's a hard job, fuck-ups are acceptable". And I wasn't even killing people. I recognize that police have to deal with some similar issues, in one way or another (the harassment point is an interesting one - I would happily take harassment from the public if it meant the other half defended me), but when you're not even being held accountable when you kill someone as a result of doing your job poorly... I know people in law enforcement. I know that there are good ones. I also know that one held a gun to my head, forced me out of my house and took all of my things, whilst continually failing his psych exams for admittance into the police force (he, obviously, passed them at a later time, and is now being paid in part by my tax dollars. Whoo!). I know another who is an out-and-out racist, happily calling people of color every name in the book. We have to address this problem, as a country. Anyone who decides that a couple athletes who kneel during the anthem is a problem that is more worth their time can go fuck themselves. Those are the people ruining our country. I'd rather have someone who kneels for the anthem but wants to resolve serious domestic issues than someone who will stand for the anthem but ignore real problems.
Nobody is doing anything to him, they just don't want him on their football team. Playing NFL football is not a right it's a privilege.
but why does he have to kneel at all to get his point across ? wear a ribbon. raise a fist. wear a decal on your helmet. why kneel ? what does kneeling during the National Anthem have to do with the injustices of Police brutality ??
What does wearing a ribbon or raising a fist have to do with injustices and why is that okay but kneeling during a song isn't? You're okay with a protest as long as it's not during a song? You're the problem because you don't care about the injustice....but you care about a song.
what does kneeling have to do with injustice bears? i can play that game all day pal. and it's not just "a song" like purple rain. it this country's national anthem!
this is exactly my point bears ! see the 7th word in the first sentence? positive. not kneeling. positive. this is what kap should be doing instead of taking a fucking knee. ravens post an article about the good Kap is doing. that's great. glad to see it. we need a ton of more people doing the same, not kneeling in protest of police brutality.
there are a ton of problems in this country bears. homelessness, drug use and selling of drugs, poverty, tons of crime, abuse, neglect etc. tons of reasons to be upset. tons of reasons to raise awareness. i care about a lot of things. some i can control and some i can't. i donate money to charity and good causes when i can. i speak of alcohol abuse to others. but at the same time i love our nation's flag and anthem as an American Citizen. That's all. Does injustice and Police brutality outweigh our anthem and flag?? sure it does. i just think like Chris Long (see other post) there are other ways to go about things you believe in and wanna fight for. I think Kap went about it the wrong way and brought a shit storm down on himself he probably didn't think would happen.
If they're blackballing him from his occupation for doing something that's NOT ILLEGAL, then yeah - there's a problem. As another poster noted - if he was Aaron Rodgers, you think we're going through this right now?
Well, I'd venture to say yes. Its a sensitive subject and I think it would still upset many people. A lot of folks have issues with all the other anthem protesters as well, not just Kaep. Kaep is getting a lot of flack for what he has done, but there are others too who are just as to blame as Kaep if there is any blame involved.
Cat, Kaep doesn't just kneel. C'mon. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...fl-owners-disgraceful-light-article-1.3436250 Since starting the anthem protests a year ago, Kaepernick pledged to work to help poor minorities often left behind by society. He's worked to feed hungry people in Somalia, and he's donated almost $1 million to groups around the country that help others who are less fortunate. In this latest round of donations, he's helping little girls and people looking for work. This is happening right here in New York.
It's a gesture meant to raise awareness. Peoples lives are more important than a song. Play any games you want. You're wrong and misguided anger is silly.
Kap is doing plenty of positives in the community. Kneeling harms no one. Except for you....apparently.
