The good: The always reliable Kevin Hogan to David Njoku hook-up. The bad: Pretty much everything else. The ugly: see above.
Sorry, I couldn't disagree more with EVERYONE in this thread today... You are all delusional if you believe Kevin Hogan was bringing this team back in this game...so the theory that "winning" is more important than developing that young QB, imho, is wrong. Getting Kizer to make more mistakes, as stupid as it sounds, is what is needed right now. This Ravens defense may be the best in the NFL. Having him learn on the field against it will only help him in the future against the inferior defenses that are coming up on the schedule. Honestly, 3 INTs in his second game against that defense doesn't bother me at all. He made some beautiful throws in the game as well...we were not going to win that game. We were outmatched and outplayed in all aspects of the game. The only thing we could come away with is getting Kizer more reps in order to make more rookie mistakes to learn from. Every game is a learning experience. He is still holding the ball too long, but only 2 sacks compared to 7 is a step in the right direction...IN THAT ASPECT of one of his glaring rookie issues. Look, this team's wide receivers are probably the worst in the league. Watching plays over, they stop on routes and half the time don't even finish routes if they aren't designed for them. That's why Hollywood shined yesterday...He has something to prove just to keep a roster spot, let alone gain a starting spot. It isn't an accident that Kizer and Hogan sent more balls his way, most of the time, he was the only only attempting to get open. We need to bring in a couple more young guys hungry to fight for a roster position, that is what would help Kizer develop...Britt needs cut TODAY, he is a cancer, I don't give a crap what they signed him for, the money is negligible compared to what he could do in the WR room. The good? Very little actually. Growing pains of a team that averages a full year younger than the next closest team will do that in a game against a playoff caliber team. Hogan did look like a backup that can keep a team in games when called upon..that is a positive, but he is not a starting caliber talent, don't fool yourself. Peppers looks ever bit the part of a first round talent. Higgins came to play, I hope they recognize his effort this week, The bad? They look like the youngest team in the NFL. This team is not ready or capable of playing playoff caliber rosters....yet....but they are closer than they were last year. The ugly? Fans (myself included) expecting this team to beat playoff caliber teams, then the day after exploding on the coaching staff and young players, demanding they be replaced. The veteran players are the ones that should be exposed as frauds in this scenario...Namely Kenny Britt. I'm ready to see what this team does against a team that is more in line with the talent level of our roster. If they look as bad this week as they did against the Ravens, then I start worrying.
Its not delusional . . . Its a fact. Hogan got the score to 17-10. <--- THAT is being in the game. Then, Williams' cover zero took the score to 24-10 with 1 second left in the half. 3rd qtr, Hogan drove the team to a FG to make it 24-13 with more than a quarter to play. <--- THAT is being in the game. Then, your precious new QB was put back into the game and at THAT point it was game over.
I think people thought the Browns would win this game...Im not saying they culdnt win, but theres a reason Harbaugh is 17-2 vs them....also it helps when u have Flacco leading the team....it would be much easier if people let the season play out before making lofty goals(5-1) heading into the bye....this team won 1 game last yr and now their gonna start out 5-1 w a rookie QB? Expectations are way too high for some and thats where the buzz kill comes into play not from me
Thats what my last post was bout Irish....I dont know how to quote certain sections but your ugly post is spot on
lmao. You guys are on a roll... Geezus Irish...what the heck? You spent months leading up to the draft talking about Cody Kessler as not only starting material, but near elite level starting material. And it would be ridiculous for us to draft a QB early or trade for Jimmy Garopollo, because we had Kessler in the fold....But you gonna call us delusional and tell us not to fool ourselves about Kevin Hogan? That's rich. Gimme a break. It was gameflow thing. We looked better yesterday when Hogan was taking snaps. It's as simple as that...Nobody was talking about going with Hogan as the starter. And Stopper, it's called being a fan. I do it all the time. I've been saying 8-8 is Browns worse case scenario every preseason for 18 years. lol! Yes. I predicted "boldly" and unwisely that we could pull the upset. Does that mean I thought for sure we were gonna win???? No. It doesn't....It makes me overly optimistic perhaps, but not in need of your reality check. I understand where the Browns are in this rebuild. It's okay for fans to have fun leading up to the game making bold declarations...It doesn't mean they have lost their grip on reality...
Come on now...If you are going to call me out on something, you better be prepared to back it up. Never did I spend months stating that Kessler was elite starting material. EVER, lol..you are just making things up. What I said was that I didn't believe any of the QBs in this draft were worthy of a first round draft pick. In fact, after watching Kessler's efficient style last year, I believed he is just as good as any of those being touted as top ten prospects...AND, I also don't believe for a second that Garoppolo is any better than any of those prospects. I still feel the same about those QBs taken in the first round AND Garoppolo. What I did expect was for Kessler to improve on his ability to avoid sacks and he actually regressed in that aspect of his game. I said all along that ANY of those QBs being touted in the first round should be considered in the second round...which is precisely what happened. It just happens that we got lucky, and we probably got the best one in this draft in the second round. Hogan had a drive killing pick also, so don't tell me about delusional. He just happened to have less time in the offense as Kizer...otherwise, you would all want him to be cut today instead of relishing him as the savior of the Ravens game. I'm right there with you buddy as far as bold predictions, I too came into yesterday's game saying I believed they would leave Baltimore victorious, but reality hit pretty early that this team's age is not ready for a playoff caliber team yet. Kizer did not change this outcome and Hogan would not have done it either. The Ravens unfortunately are for real...although injuries could play a roll in their demise sooner than later. Simply put, I don't think Kizer should be benched for making rookie mistakes that we should have all been prepared for him to make...In any other scenario, we would expect a player to re-enter the game following a positive outcome from concussion protocol...that is exactly what happened.
I'm not gonna go back rehash quotes, but I'm pretty sure you were knee deep in the Kessler kool aid...The fact that you still believe Kessler is just as good of a prospect as Jimmy G says enough for me though. I don't think anybody was anointing Hogan as the savior of the Ravens game. Nor do I think Kizer was ever benched. Dude had a headache, right? That's not being benched. That's leaving due to injury. I thought our chances of winning yesterday were very slim as the game played out. Kizer looked like shit, which rookies do sometimes, especially against defenses like Baltimore. It just seemed to me that Hogan absolutely provided a spark, and I think we'd have been better off rolling with him for the rest of the game, as opposed to going back to our migraine suffering starter...What's hard to understand about that? Maybe it's because I've had a migraine before. I can only imagine the bright lights, loud noises and the general chaos of NFL competition, wouldn't set well when a migraine sets in....He should have been out for the rest of the game IMO. That doesn't make me "delusional", which was your word...
I just don't see Garoppolo as a viable prospect...sorry, it is a separate issue altogether than Kessler. By saying they should have left Hogan in is stating they had a chance to beat the Ravens if he stayed in...Do any of you REALLY believe the Browns were going to win that game had Hogan stayed in the game...I mean, really deep down believe that? And I agree 100%, concussion protocol was the reason for him leaving the game and as soon as he cleared protocol he went back in..pretty simple Again, until I hear the word "migraine" out of Kizer's mouth, I don't blame this on a migraine. That is the word Hue used and the media ran with it. Kizer said he had headache symptoms, that is no where near migraine...but it was enough to go into the concussion protocol. Getting stuck on a single word like "migraine" and basing everything else off of that word is what we need to learn from. Delusional came from the fact that some were saying the Browns had a chance because Hogan was in the game...I'm sorry if that is a little exaggerated of a term...but thinking Hogan would bring this team back from defeat is also an exaggerated thought.
Three - one was negated by penalty. Not ever going to get a better, cleaner, easier throw in the red zone. Kizer throws it to the lagging cornerback, not Higgins who's wide open, for the interception. That's not on our wide receivers. Kizer's first interception was on a short, four yard route to the running back. He threw way too hard and in front of his target, bouncing off the outstretched hand. The safety gets an easy pick. Kizer's second interception was the one above. Kizer's final interception, rolling to his right, was thrown into double coverage. There was a wide receiver wide open in the seam. No, our wide receivers aren't great, but DeShone Kizer's lack of accuracy and decision making and inability to read an NFL defense cost us the game. So this is the third time you say this about Baltimore. They haven't made the playoffs since 2014. They were 5-11 and 8-8 the last two years. That should read: "This team was not capable of matching up with a slightly-above average division rival." Only you, @IrishDawg42 could turn the 'Ugly' against the team's own fan base. The very hard truth that you fail to accept is that DeShone Kizer cost us the game. His fumble in our own territory gave the Ravens an easy lead. First series: three-and-out. Punt. Defense holds Baltimore to a punt. Second series: DeShone fumble in own territory. Ravens score on a short field. Third series: DeShone interception (see above) turns the ball over. Defense forces interception of their own. Fourth series: two first downs (one scramble, one penalty). Punt. Defense surrenders a touchdown. Fifth series: first time we actually move the football. Score a TD. QB = Hogan. Defense forces a punt. Once Kizer came back into the game, he proceeded to continue to kill the team. Kizer's first series after sitting out: sack, delay of game, three-and-out. Defense hold Ravens to a field goal. Kizer's second series: interception. Game should be over, but our defense forces another Ravens turnover and gives this team a chance. Kizer's thrid series: interception. Game. Over.
And here's the deal... we accept rookie mistakes. The problem is, if this coach is going to force a mistake-prone rookie down our throats, he damn sure better be positive that same rookie is also capable of growth. Yesterday, he cost his team a win plain and simple. If we go into Indy and he performs like that again, makes the same mistakes, and we lose to a team who we have no business losing to, you can bet I'll bring out #Hashtags4Hogan or #TeamCody again. DeShone can sit and learn behind one of those guys while we win some freaking football games.
Well "migraine" is the word that everyone was using, so I don't know what you wanna call it. IMO, Kizer wasn't looking good before the headache. So once he left the game with what they termed as a migraine, I just didn't see any need to bring him back into the fray. We weren't looking at good odds of winning regardless who the QB was, so I certainly didn't mean to imply that I thought we'd actually win the game if we stayed with Hogan. I simply thought it was a dumb move to throw Kizer back in, and his performance seemed to warrant the criticism...
Agreed, on this particular play. I was referring to his holding the ball too long. That's what happens with a 21 year old QB starting games for the first time...We all knew we were going to see this type of play when the decision was made to start him. I'm not sure why everyone is surprised. Really? I was a Kessler supporter, you know that...but he was 0-8 as a starter, that's your answer for not letting Kizer play and learn? Out of all the QBs on the team, I still believe 100% that Kizer gives this team the best opportunity to win games. One terrible outing vs. one of the NFL's best defenses isn't going to change my mind on that. imho, because the more game film he has to go through and learn from, the less of a learning curve he has on the road to improvement. I believe in the tools that are needed to help a young player grow..game film is an intricate part of that development. Sitting on the sidelines and getting game film of the backup will not help that growth imo.
On a lighter note, sometimes you just gotta laugh.....or cry. I thought Chris Rose had the best line of the day on the NFL Network highlight show. As Deion Sanders was emphatically throwing out props and HoF accolades at Joe Thomas for his remarkable streak of 10000 consecutive snaps, Rose (a huge Browns fan) chimed in with: "but he's only trailed for 9875 of those snaps!" lol!
That's exactly what he's saying stopper...Not only that, but he's obviously saying we'll win the division as well. And make our first Super Bowl appearance! This is gonna be an awesome year...
OK my $0.02 The Good: I Haven't been partaking in any of that rot gut Kizer/Jackson aid. I here that shtuff gives you Migranes The Bad: Corey "glass hands" Coleman and Kenny "stone hands" Britt... So far our best receivers are Duke Joshnson and the guy recently promoted from the practice squad... The Ugly: Rookie growing pains... I get that Kizer has much to learn about being an NFL QB. While not getting sacked as many times Kizer turned the ball over 4 times. That one in the endzone was a dagger to the heart. Hue is NOT doing him any favors by abandoning the Run Game. Crow averages 3+YPC and yet only gets 10 touches I don't get it. I thought Hue said he wasn't going to bail in the run game this season and lean on Crow more. Going to be a very long ugly season at this rate. I think I'll plan more fishin' trips this fall.
I forget who share the video, but there was a play (probably many) where Kizer took the snap and Britt and Coates each on the outside, both just completely gave up 7ish yards down field on a passing play and left Kizer down 2 options. If we're going to have a rookie qb in, we have to make sure that he at least has everyone going. This isn't the first time Britt has done this sort of thing either. As I just posted in the DPL, Jordan Leslie appears to be on his way back to Cleveland. With no practice squad eligibility, it will be interesting to see what transactions the team makes to add him.
