Should the league step in and tell teams to let him play? I believe he got the message not to do that crap anymore. I personally hate what he did last season, but when I look at my back up QBs I think he would be a much better option than either one. Maybe it's time for teams to lift him from the black ball list and give him a second chance. We gave Vick another chance. Kaep deserves one.
You don't know what his agent is asking for...You say he's better than your backups, would you pay him $12M per year? That could be what he's seeking.
I posted this because I was reading from all the other players saying he should be on a roster. No way do I think he should get a large salary.
Right, but no one is asking the right questions, everyone just assumes he is being blackballed. HE dumped XAM Sports back in January and hasn't signed a new agent to my knowledge. An agent can go through channels a player cannot to gauge interest and do the business side of these negotiations. Harbaugh seemed genuinely interested, but said "it was up to Colin what he wants". That tells me, they offered a backup position (with backup salary) and he said he was too good for that contract and they moved on. Instead of everyone blaming the NFL for blackballing him, get him on camera and find out what is really going on...although, he will probably just say he is being blackballed and not give any real answers. Right now, he's a symbol, no one wants to understand the business side of sports, the bigger story is 'the life and times of a renegade activist". But, if you ask everyone that blames the NFL, would you sign him to a starter contract, my guess is that would be a "no".
do you really think he got the message? i never saw him come forward and apologize for what he did or tell people to stop doing it. is he sorry bc he is truly sorry for what he did or is he sorry bc he's not making millions of dollars and playing football and seems to be blackballed from doing it in the near future?? big difference. i don't think he's sorry at all. michael vick spoke at dog abuse shelters and he even adopted an abused dog i believe. kap hasn't shown 1 ounce of remorse from not only what he did, but what it led to in this country with riots, fights and other athletes kneeling during the national anthem. he didn't ask his fellow athletes to stop kneeling. to me he's not sorry. until he shows some damn remorse and makes amends, he stays unemployed!
One, your basic premise that he is being blackballed may, indeed, be incorrect. He was gainfully employed and under contract when he opted out of that contract in order to test the open free agent market. Unfortunately for Colin, his on field performance leading up to his decision to opt out of his contract, was poorer than that of the other free agent QB's. He is apparently is unwilling to accept a contract comensurate with a back-up QB. So, even without his pre-game "protest", I could argue that he still wouldn't be working.

Late to the party but on your three points: 1. He opted out of a contract he was going to be released from regardless. 49ers GM, John Lynch, confirmed this. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...ernick-if-he-hadnt-opted-out-of-his-contract/ 2. Kaeprnick's on the field performance leading up to opting out of the contract he was going to be released from anyway was a 16 TD to 4 INT performance that actually ranks up there as a 10 TD to INT ratio of all time. The 49ers going 2-14 (or were they 1-15) can't be solely attributed to him as that roster was trash from top to bottom. No way was his performance worse than the other free agent QBs of this past offseason. Case Keenum? Ryan Fitzpatrick? Geno Smith? Dan Orlovsky? Even Blaine Gabbert has a job and he lost his last season to Kaepernick. 3. This is a narrative nobody can back up. One analyst speculated that Kaerpernick wanted x amount of money and everyone ran with it. Nobody in Kaep's camp or any NFL teams have ever come out and said what his contract demands were. He's being blackballed for being the leader and figurehead of the kneeling during the flag movement. Fans that, overall, talk more about patriotism than perform patriotic acts have talked about protesting the league and teams simply don't want to have to deal with it. It has little to do with money or skill (Josh McCown signed for $6M which is a crime)
Read an article claiming some Bengals players are tired of Dalton and want Kaep signed... that'll fix things all right.
The narrative that this is Kaep's fault doesn't hold up. The NFL has wildly mishandled this, but they'll continue to do so as long as the demographics hooting and hollering continue to do so. This isn't a good look for the NFL or America, and it's not getting better.
the flag movement? i don't see him being a leader at all. so kneeling during the national anthem goes against police brutality? what does the national anthem have to do with that? he's being blackballed for starting a small fire on his own that spread to a massive fire outbreak in this country, so riots happened, more athletes kneeling etc. but again - what does kneeling have to do with police brutality? still never seen him at a press conference speaking to police leaders as the web claims he did. he never asked people to stop kneeling. he's a troublemaker and teams don't want to deal with him or the circus he brings to a city and team. many ways to debate police brutality. kneeling during the national anthem isn't one of them.
Enlighten me, Catfish - what's the right way to go about addressing police brutality, at large? Everyone keeps saying that Kaepernick didn't do it properly - I think everyone is really just wanting to hear what the "right" way to do it, is. If you can tell me what that is, we can actually get this thing going!
You don't have to see him as a leader, but there are hundreds or thousands following his lead. How is he a troublemaker though? Has he performed illegal acts? Has he hurt anybody? Has he even cursed out anybody? The only thing he's done in performed a protest in order to bring attention to an issue. The flag/anthem has nothing to do with police brutality directly, but it was a platform he took to bring attention to an issue.
This whole situation is a huge black eye on America, in my opinion. Not because some people are choosing not to stand for the anthem, but because the majority of the country seem to care more about someone kneeling than the reason the person took a knee. The country wants these athletes to stand for the flag/anthem but doesn't want to correct the issue and give them a reason to proudly stand.
i see you're up early dline and in a pissy mood as always. well it's not by kneeling during an anthem! what does that do for the masses? now since he's unemployed - how about a speaking tour? a q&a session with cops at major cities? a tv commercial that airs nationwide about police brutality and real stats about black on black crime and white on white crime, write a weekly news article and publish it nationwide about police brutality, etc. something with ACTION BEHIND IT. WTF does kneeling do dline besides BRING ATTENTION TO YOURSELF? Nothing. It singles you out for doing this. It does zilch for police brutality awareness. Do anything positive with action behind it. Kneeling does what exactly besides put you in the spotlight for disrespecting our national anthem?
i see a lot of this caused problems too. trouble with cops and large protesting crowds, rioting, etc. hell even Rodney King said "can't we all just get along?" Where is Kap? Kneeling on the freaking sideline. Get on tv. get in front of a news camera to stop the riots. stop the violence etc.
Rodney King is literally the poster child for police brutality. Him saying that didn't reduce police brutality in the least. Kaerpernick has been out there working in communities and giving back to communities for a long time. He doesn't get the publicity for that though. And it's definitely not his job to stop riots as he hasn't started any. With the exception of the Nazi riot and the many, many, sports/pumpkin festival/surf competition riots that don't get any real negative press due to demographic performing them, the only riots that take place are directly related to police getting away free in brutality cases. You know what would stop them? Police not getting away with obvious brutality cases. Does it make sense, for example, that the city of New York can agree to pay out $4M in damages to Eric Garner's family for his wrongful death but they can't find anybody guilty of his death? Tamir Rice's family was paid $6M by Cleveland, but nobody is at fault for his death either. The list goes on
but at least King made an appearance to get out in front of it. Where is Kap? Why hasn't he gotten the publicity for all his good actions? I wish i could see that! Don't you think if he got on tv and said some things, a lot of crap wouldn't go down as they did? yeah Ravens that makes no sense about not finding the fault for their deaths.
This post is what I mean by him not getting publicity for the good, and therefore people think all he's done is take a knee. Do you know the NFLPA made him the week 1 recipient of their "Community MVP" award.....for his work in the communities? He's been out there for awhile. He's held youth camps for kids, spoken at different events, handed out backpacks by hand, donated his extensive sneaker collection to the more needy, personally handed out suits to people released from jail looking for a second chance, donated to many charities especially veteran causes, etc. He doesn't do any of this for the media spotlight (if you want to read below, you can see someone talking about their experience with Colin when he was doing his camp for kids. He specifically requested people be silent about it because he didn't want it to be a media event). Contrary to your statement, he never made anything about himself. Even his original sitting wasn't brought to light by him. The media asked after they noticed he had done it a few times. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...ents-status-black-community-article-1.2850326
Well they shouldn't make somebody sign him, but it would be nice to offer him a role in the league's front office.
