Monday Morning Questions

I'm still pissed. Here are some questions I asked during the game and still not over this morning.

    For Fox:
    • Why didn't you challenge that early first down Falcons, after replays clearly showed forward progress was about 2 yards short of the first down line?
    • Why is Tarik Cohen returning punts? The kid is special, but he took a ton of big hits yesterday, a couple on special teams. Let's save him for the offense. Plus, wasn't Eddie Jackson supposed our PR?
    • Why did you punt on 4th and 3 from the 39? That's perfect go for it range and if you're trying to give Glennon confidence, that would have been the perfect way to show it. As we all know, the Falcons scored an 88 yard TD right after that punt, which we could never recover from. We lose nothing by going for it. And this is not second guessing because I said this during the game.
    • Why not try to run a play prior to the two minute warning? Generally, what is your approach in a 2 minute drill? Describe it.
    • Why burn that last time out rather than spiking the ball? At that point in the game, time is more valuable than downs. You put us in a position where a sack or any throw short of the goal line would have ended it.
    • Did you consider bringing in Trubs when the team only had 13 net passing yards in 3 quarters?
    • Hypothetically if Trubs started, would the game plan/playcalling been the same? If so, do you think the outcome would have been any different? If not, why would the playcalling have been different? What does Glennon do that Trubs cannot?
    For Glennon:
    • Good job nearly rallying the team. Why did you feel you could roll out to avoid pressure on that last play and buy some more time? You know you’re more immobile than my grandmother and you know how good their pass rush is. Why not just throw that ball after you complete your drop and hope for the best. It was 4th down after all.
    • Why so few looks at Kendall Wright? Was he not getting open?
    • How do you feel you played in the first 3 quarters?
    • Do you think you’re the best QB on the team?

    For Pace:
    • What is the objective of this season? To win games or to show progress?
    • What do you want to see from Mike Glennon? What makes you think he’s worth $16 million guaranteed?
    • Why do we have to wait for guys get hurt till their more productive replacements see the field?

    Those are excellent questions/observations blang.

I'd put money on our never hearing or seeing any of the answers.

I'll add some of my own, but make it a hybrid Monday Morning questions/thoughts.....

    1) Blang and I pointed this out in the game thread. 2:14 in the 4th, Glennon gets a first. Atlanta's defense looked like it was preventing "the big throw" and gave the bears great short plays which worked for Glennon.

But Atlanta was walking back to the line. The bears have to see that. The bears have to march right back up to the line, and call a fucking play, or make the Falcons burn a time out. That was a huge wasted opportunity for me. Clock lazily rolls down to the 2 minute warning. That's also while this team has made great strides and looks improved, but still isn't a winning team.

    2) I was impressed a lot by the defensive front 7. Lots of us voiced that. But you know where I cringe? Beyond the secondary--I mean.

Turnovers. Good defenses create turnovers. And impressive front 7s don't stay off the injury list for very long if you don't create any. And what's more alarming? I know we recall "the Peanut punch." Have players just quit on that? I know an assload of rules change every year--is this now outlawed and we know nothing about it? The bears look as dumb as my dog, who sits underneath the tree waiting for squirrels to come to it. It doesn't work that way.

Good teams create turnovers. Want to unseat that Rodgers guy? How about Stafford? Want to make it back to the postseason? Win the turnover differential. Which isn't going to happen because this secondary has no predators.

    3) Mike Glennon's 2 baffling statistics? 13 yards through 3 quarters, and only 4 passes attempted with balls thrown over 10 yards.

    4) Speaking of Mike Glennon, what in fuck are you doing for the first 3 quarters? I mean, at least he makes a good blocker. I miss Brian Hoyer. And I fucking hate Brian Hoyer, quarterback.

    5) I like most of Pace's picks thus far. But how in fuck does your 2nd round pick not see the field enough for 1 fucking target? Fuck I'd settle for a decoy play. I guarantee on a 2nd or 3rd and goal/short, you stuff the OLine and line that dude up out as a WR, you create an instant time out and fuck with the defensive coordinator, and you ultimately make a dwarfed DB shit his pants. Another missed opportunity I didn't like.

    6) Didn't we sign Quentin Demps because he was good? That TD was all him.

    7) Tarik Cohen, your table is ready.

    8) Yours too, Akeim Hicks.

    9) Bears reporters/media/journalists/fans/coaches all need to stop saying "you cant call Kevin White a bust."

Actually you can. 5 games played going into his 4th year if he is out the season as predicted. You are NOT getting your money's worth or contribution of the #7 overall pick from 2015. Don't be afraid he "could be" another Marc Columbo. He couldn't stay on the field here either, and this league is about "what have you done for me recently." You cant make that assumption Columbo would have put it together here. That's not something the bears can control, and that's why they don't gamble and cut him, and teams around cut players like that.

This is something revisionist historians should not get up in arms about but would if they could if he succeeds elsewhere. You just cant equate that success if you argue "well player x stayed just one more yea." that's just not an argument you win with reason. Don't be afraid to release him because he could be successful somewhere else. He's doing shit for you now, and I'm sure you can find a couple guys who would give what they can to earn a spot on the 53.

He should not be guaranteed anything going into the 2018 season.

Fox said in the presser that the LB should have had trail coverage on that one.

    Instead he released.

However, I'd like to point out that trailing technique implies that there is also a safety over the top.

So basically, two players fucked up on that one.

I'll have the all-22 tomorrow to see who the LB was. I believe it was trevethan

I actually think it was Freeman. Fox mentioned something about not being sure if Freeman's concussion had anything to do with the mix-up.

  6. tunafat Franchise Player Bears

He shouldn't but he is though, his contract is 100% guaranteed, and he is set to make nearly 2.7 million next season with just over 5 million in dead cap. I"m with you though, cut his ass, but will the Bears let him off that easy?
Get him healthy and when he takes the physical next year cut his ass before he can sustain any other kind of injury in various meetings like falling off a chair, or a papercut and such to avoid an injury settlement. You lost any benefit from him in his rookie deal as he enters the 4th year of his contract as virtually a rookie again. Own it Pace and move the fuck on without him, he is not a solution but part of the problem because time after time he's proved he'll never reach his ceiling because he can't make it past the first rung on the ladder without falling off to get himself there.
