Not saying it "CAN'T" happen, but 0-1 sure puts a damper on that party. Need to win out just to be considered. Clemson and Florida on the road will make that difficult. Lucky for you, the rest of the schedule should be cake.
We played Bama...USC played a bad team....Spec Teams killed us that game...Def will finish in top 5 led by #3....I still believe their gonna b fine
Uh oh...Looks like somebody forgot to check the police reports before we signed our new defensive lineman...smh http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...a-possession-hours-before-signing-with-browns Not good...If it was the other T.Y. from Indy, we might let it slide...
Just read the Bleacher Report from Tanier, about MoneyBall, and it's impact. Reminded me of SAS's "Tank like a Brown" post. I have to admit that while I believe they have improved the team overall, the loss of Greco and Haden in particular, made me wonder if they attribute "any value" to veterans. Not saying Joe was deserving of the 11mil, but couldn't we have found a way to keep him, and maybe more critically, keep Greco. The Osweiller thing bugs me, but they kept the right guys from a football standpoint IMO, rather than take up a roster spot to keep him, hoping someone would step up to take him later. I am excited by the youth, on the one hand, but concerned about the "auto eject" button, it seems they push every time there is a tough decision. Anybody else a little nervous about the cavalier attitude they seem to have about experienced guys?
What we see them doing is casting out the highly paid veterans of past regimes. McCourty (30) and Britt (29) are both 8+ year experience guys who've they've brought in. Part of changing the entire culture around Cleveland is getting rid of the guys who in the past of been part of bad teams and may be just around to collect a paycheck. Joe Haden, for as much of a "Cleveland Guy" as he was made out to be, refused to take less money and then signed with a rival for even less than the Browns had offered. Culturally, it's easy to see why losing him helps in the long-run. Once the nucleus is built, I am positive they'll keep guys around as long as they can play (the other component to Haden's release was his terrible play). Even if they didn't bring them in, this regime hasn't been shy about extending the right vets. Christian Kirksey and Jamie Collins both inked big deals recently. Crowell is the only big name pending free agent for 2018, so they've set this roster up to grow together and get really good at the right time.
Have you seen the arsenal of draft picks the Browns have? Short of making the playoffs (which I don't think either will do), they can add a pick to their picks to move up for these players. Barkley's draft status could be dependent on Jabrill Peppers rookie season..He does a lot of what Jabrill did, and seems to be earmarked to do in the NFL. If Jabrill has high success, I think Barkley ends up a top 5 pick... You have to remember, as many as 5 QBs could be in the top ten, pushing players down the board in 2018. If both the Browns and Texans finished at .500, they would be picking around 14-18 (if things stay status quo with 2017) So, just for the sake of this exercise: Let's assume the Browns make a HUGE leap from last season and win 6 games 6-10 Pick #8 and #40 Let's assume Savage will not improve the Texans, but in fact they lost one more game than last year. 8-8 Pick Browns own both #18, #50 Let's assume the Eagles will stay right where they were last year, I can't see the improvements other than Wentz having a year of NFL acclimation.. 7-9 Pick (#12) Browns get #44 So if the Texans end up at #18...unless of course you think Savage is going to improve the team from last year... #18 and say #40 will get them to #9 If the first 5 picks #1 Jets QB #2 Bears trade down with Bills QB #3 Jaguars QB #4 49ers QB #5 Bills trade up with the Bears Bears select Trey Austin #6 Bengals (FINALLY fire Marvin Lewis) New coach wants his own QB #7 Colts Arden Key #8 Browns (own pick) Derwin James #9 Acquired from the Saints for #18 and #40 Saquon Barkley See...It isn't farfetched at all
Tribe makes it 13 in a row. Ramirez with his second game in a row with 2 HR's (5 Hr's in his last 3 games). Magic number down to 14. Roll Tribe.
I've got the Texans at 5-11. Savage goes 1-5 before the BYE, prompting them to switch to Watson. In fact, getting slapped around in Cleveland Week 6 before they hit their BYE prompts the change. Watson manages 4-6 as a starter. Tough to pick who the top picks will be Week 1 of NCAA in the books, but if @IrishDawg42 is right and QBs are pushed up boards, good, non-QB picks will be available. Honestly, I hope we don't need to take Derwin James because it means Jabrill Peppers is as advertised. There's also a chance that Derwin James goes full Taylor Mays - Top 5 pick to start the season, back-end Round 2 to finish. I also hope we don't need to draft Saquon Barkley because ideally Isaiah Crowell goes for 1,300 yards and 10 TDs and signs a reasonable four-year extension. Browns with RB, FS, and QB question marks locked up can spend the pick(s), as successful teams do, on future prospects. Coming away with Connor Williams of Texas (if as advertised) as the heir-apparent to Joe Thomas would be awesome. Throw in the customary Browns trade-down and grab a wide receiver or cornerback at the bottom of Round 1 while acquiring future picks and I would call that a successful first night.
Define reasonable? I think it would take a Browns massive turnaround to get him to be reasonable...but then again, if they win 10 games and he has 1,300 yards, he will assume HE was the reason for the turnaround and reasonable still goes out the door. If all that happened though, what is reasonable for a 1,300 yd/10 TD RB in today's NFL?
We played Bama...USC played a bad team....Spec Teams killed us that game...Def will finish in top 5 led by #3....I still believe their gonna b fine Houst defense will b really good w a healthy Watt...their division is weak(Jax, Indy w a quest Luck and Tenn) I see Houst w 8-9 wins
Freeman logged $8.25 million average. He's averaged 1,216 total yards a season and 1,587 over the last two. Crowell averaged 951 total and 1,079 over the last two. Even with a big 2017, $8.25M would seem to be the highest. Even 4-year, $33M isn't going to break this team's bank.
Really? Big-bodied, freak athlete safeties who play for big name schools and are propped up as top picks in their prospective drafts?
Freeman wasn't the 1,216 average that got him $8.25M, it was combined yardage of 1,550 yards and 13 TDs per year that got him that. I don't know...seems like he would need more than just one year to break the bank. BUT, if it frees up an opportunity to grow elsewhere, I wouldn't have a problem with them paying it. A lot depends on what he can accomplish with the revamped O-Line.
