Not shocking at all. Someone showed they would give Carr 25M which shows that in this market someone would likely pay Stafford a similar amount. Add inflation of the cap that gives teams a bit more money to spend and that is a going rate.

They're already talking about renegotiating Matt Ryan's contract because of this.

With four days to go before final roster cuts, the Bengals and Patriots have made a move.

Cincinnati sent linebacker Marquis Flowers to the Patriots for a seventh-round draft pick, the Enquirer reports.

The move likely means the Bengals didn’t plan to keep Flowers on their 53-man roster, and that the Patriots liked him and thought some other team would claim him on waivers before they could get him. As the defending champions, the Patriots are last in the waiver claim order, so they can only get a waived player if no other team wants him.

Flowers hasn’t done much on defense but is a solid special teams player, and Patriots coach Bill Belichick tends to like low-cost players who can help on special teams. Flowers is due a $690,000 salary on the final year of his rookie contract.

I like Stafford because he is a Ga. Bulldog , but no way he is worth the coin he is getting. I am not shocked just can't see every starting QB in the league getting the highest contract ever just because he is a starting QB.

Get used to it. The Lebron Jameses of the NFL are going to the party, too.

The Steelers acquired tight end Vance McDonald and a 2018 fifth-round draft pick from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2018 fourth-rounder, both teams announced Tuesday.

In four years with the 49ers, McDonald has started 30 games, snagging 64 receptions for 866 yards and seven touchdowns. The former second-round pick signed a five-year $35 million contract extension with San Francisco in December. The new regime has attempted to trade the 27-year-old this offseason. They finally found a taker.

I feel sorry for the Giants because Beckom comes up for contract. The moron said he wants to be the highest paid player in the league. They might have to trade him.

I don't understand these QB salaries. It didn't use to be this way. Most guys were paid commensurate with their play. I think it's inexperience on the part of some of these front offices. Numerous QBs signed after Aaron Rodgers became the highest paid player in 2013. Those teams didn't feel the need to top Rodgers' annual salary...

    April 2013 Aaron Rodgers 22M

    July 2013 Matt Ryan 20.7M
    January 2014 Jay Cutler 18.1M
    June 2014 Colin Kaepernick 19M
    August 2014 Andy Dalton 16M
    March 2015 Ben Roethlisberger 21.85M
    June 2015 CAm Newton 20.76M
    July 2015 Russell Wilson 21.9M
    August 2015 Philip Rivers 20.8M
    September 2015 Eli Manning 21M
    March 2016 Tom Brady 20.5M

    And then since then...

    March 2016 Joe Flacco 22M
    June 2016 Andrew Luck 24.59M
    August 2016 Carson Palmer 24.35M
    September 2016 Drew Brees 24.25M
    June 2017 Derek Carr 25M
    August 2017 Matthew Stafford 27M

So this a relatively new trend. And it's just plain stupid and it's why many of the franchises are perennial losers.

It's interesting to me. 4 years ago, there was a ton of talk about how paying Flacco 20.6M a year on average was too much, directly after a superbowl MVP with 9 playoff wins under his belt. This year, Carr gets 25M a year, and Stafford gets 27M a year. The former has taken a post season snap, and the latter is 0-3 in January. Kirk Cousins is also getting 25M this year.

The QB money is overall ridiculous anyway. 25M+ per year is beyond excessive. I think all owners need to come together and limit this going forward.

Matt Ryan makes a little over 20 mil a year and is badly under paid!

Reports in Atlanta say Devonta Freeman has been cleared medically and is now out of the concussion protocol. Still might not play on Thursday simply because that would be pointless.

Joe - any interest in doing another preview Q&A like last year?

Mentioning it here bc it would be cool to let MIA, Will, Babyfan, etc join in on asking the questions and perhaps have you join me in answering if you're interested.

Hmm. Ya I can do it again. I should have time as well. We are trying to get content flowing again now that the site has been rebooted. I'll ask @Tim if he wants to interview me on the Eagles as well. I had a great one with Patg last year on the Bears. If anyone is interested then PM me.

We need to have a separate thread for the Q&A, then we can pick out and invite some people in to get some interesting questions.

We need some fans that closely follow each team.

Torgo with the Falcons, Joe with the Eagles and Pat with the Bears is a good start. If we could get one from the Steelers, one from the Ravens and one from the Browns to add, that would be a plus. I'm thinking Beach, R1 and Irish.

    Ken from the Bills maybe?

We could try Underdog for the Patriots.

Maybe Axe would get involved for the Cowboys.

I could try to reach out to Matt for the Bengals, Munoz for the Broncos.

What about RT for the Colts?

    Will for the Vikings. :vik:

Am I missing anyone or any possibility?

Someone can interview me for a couple teams. Something like the Chiefs and the Redskins.

I can start working on a template for it tomorrow morning.

Okay Tim. Have a look at the ones from last year if you need a reference.

Interesting idea. I was thinking along the lines of an article like last year, and simply mentioned it here so that anyone else who had a question would know to PM it to Joe or to me. But if you'd rather do a forum thread than articles, I'm game. Either way is great for me. I just think it would be cool to include questions that others here might have.

I believe he meant a different thread to talk about the articles.
