If nothing else, the league now knows the going financial value of a 2nd round pick.

That's fair, as far as it goes, but a few weeks in camp is a mighty small sampling SAS. Still any time we can point to our QB,especially our rookie QB and judge him better than, well anyone or anything, it's a positive step, and I'll take it.

As for Oscwildarm........ I kinda hope Hue gives Cody the 2nd half. I just don't think Wildarm offers much. I guess if they think it could help promote a deal for him, then OK, but otherwise, keep Kizer in and / or let Kessler get some reps. God knows we aren't going through the season on one QB, so lets get some reps for our #2.

Well, it's already been announced that Oseiler is inactive for this game against the Buccs. Hue said they wanted to see the young guys in there. I think Kizer will play the first 3 quarters, or at least into the 3rd quarter, then Kessler and Hogan will get the 4th and maybe part of the 3rd to show they are better options at backup than Osweiler. I still think there is a team out there desperate enough to not want to chance Osweiler clearing waivers and might give Cleveland a 5th-7th round draft pick. I would happily take that and hopefully a couple million off the salary cap. Kessler is the backup QB for this team and I wouldn't want it any other way. I think he will be a consummate professional about it and not make Kizer look over his shoulder during the rookie growing pains...AND if Kizer shits the bed completely, he can game manage this team.

FYI, on the Osweiler trade watch:

Blake Bortles was just named starter week 1 for the Jaguars. I think this could be a great destination for Brock.

Do you think we can get a 5th for him? I think it's all but certain he's gone now that Kizer has won the job

I think thats the ceiling, more likely a 7th or conditional pick.

  10. Agreed, Irish. Although, I'm old school as far as QB development goes in the NFL. I wish Kizer all the best because that will be good for the Browns, but I have never agreed with tossing a rookie QB into the meat grinder in his first season. Speaks to how sad the Browns are at their veteran QBs.

I think getting anything out of him will be icing on the cake though. Hopefully another team wants him bad enough

It just takes one team with a tenuous/bad QB situation to make the call.

Would be a little sweet to send him back to Denver after Lynch's injury...

I had been pulling for Kessler, but I admit I like Kizer. Dumb reason. I like the authority with which he throws. He doesn't look timid. He may be uncertain, but when he lets it go, it goes with a purpose. I don't think he is over analyzing, but is letting it go if he''s decided to throw. I like that.
It will undoubtably come back to haunt him at times, but I truly hope he doesn't start "holding" the ball due to uncertainty. He's gonna take some pretty bad lumps, but I'd like to see him keep letting loose when he's made the decision to throw.

I thought the line kept him pretty clean too. Another good sign. I wish I could have more enthusiasm, but pre season is not a team yardstick, it's more about individual performance, and roster building, so I can't wait for Pittsburgh and week one to get a feel for what kind of team we have. I'd like to thin the D is significantly better, but..........

Ultimately, I believe we can win 5 times more than last year.
Amen. Another prayer goes up to the football gods.

Haha, was just coming on to quote exact same tweet...I hate to see Joe go, but we sometimes have to face the music when a player loses his stuff..

Joe hasn't been Joe for a couple years now . he has become a liability .I love him as a person he has been very good with kids in the community .I doubt the Browns can trade him with his salary . we may have to eat part of it .

Thanks for the efforts Joe you ROCKED in your younger days . Wishing you the best .

Actually, once you remove the bonus money (that Cleveland will have to eat no matter what), his salary would be #12 in the league, so it really isn't as bad as convincing another team that he is still playing at a level commiserate with the #12 salary.

I hate to keep bringing up the Ravens as a potential landing spot for our overpaid players, but they did lose Tavon Young in July...I could see Ozzie potentially making a move for Joe Haden if the deal was right...

I can't think of any other recent CB injuries to projected starters...
