Seahawks confirm George Fant needs ACL surgery

The Seahawks need to find a new left tackle.

George Fant, who was carted off the field during Friday night’s game against the Vikings, has to have ACL surgery, coach Pete Carroll said.

“Really broken-hearted about George Fant getting hurt,” Carroll said. “Just unfortunate. He’s done so much, come so far and everybody’s cheering for him and rooting for him all along. He’s going to be in trouble getting back this season. He’s got a knee injury that’s going to require surgery, unfortunately. Kinda takes a little something out of it for everybody.”

Although the Seahawks haven’t said Fant is out for the year, that’s almost always the case with ACL surgery.

Dallas goes down field on the Colts defense rather easily. Whitten and Dez Bryant show with McFadden running well... 7-0, Cowboys.

The Bears say they don’t have a quarterback controversy. From the looks of their first two preseason games, they should.

Rookie Mitch Trubisky outplayed the anointed starter Mike Glennon again on Saturday night as the Bears beat the Cardinals. Glennon completed 13 of 18 passes for 89 yards with one touchdown and one interception, while Trubisky completed six of eight passes for 60 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. Although the difference between them wasn’t as stark as it had been in the first preseason game, when Glennon was awful and Trubisky was great, it was another game in which Trubisky looked like the better player.

Now the question is whether Bears coach John Fox will really open up a true quarterback competition by giving Trubisky some playing time with the Bears’ first-string offense, against the Titans’ first-string defense in Week Three of the preseason.

If Trubisky looks as good playing with the ones as he has looked playing with the threes, then he deserves to be the Bears’ starting quarterback when the regular season starts. (PFT)

Trubisky is playing against #3's right? He was the 3rd QB in the 1st game, and I imagine that didn't change. I thought he looked like the best rookie QB last week, but lets temper the excitement until he gets some work against some starters.

That Falcons team is definitely going back to the playoffs as long as they stay healthy. Better fix that punt team though, 1 block, 1 partial block and gave up a punt return for a TD.

i saw and read a rumor the L. Blount and Smallwood could both be cut in Philly as RBs. Who is the hell is running the ball for them then? I know Blount has looked lousy, but to cut him now? And Smallwood? Ouch. Not good for RBs in Philly. And if anyone took Blount in fantasy football too.

Corey Clement has looked good so far - better than any Philly RB. My guess is either Blount or Smallwood - not both - is cut.

Trevor Siemian starts the season as the starter in Denver

It didn’t quite go down to the wire, but it was close.

An open competition for the starting quarterback job in Denver has ended, at least for now. PFT has confirmed that incumbent starter Trevor Siemian has won the job over 2016 first-rounder Paxton Lynch. Coach Vance Joseph will make the announcement a a press conference scheduled for 3:15 p.m. ET,

Siemian, a seventh-round pick in 2015, held off Lynch despite a belief that new-old offensive coordinator Mike McCoy’s system was more conducive to Lynch.

For Siemian to have won the job, he had to have won it convincingly. The draft capital used to select Lynch, coupled with the apparent belief that he could eventually become a franchise quarterback, would have nudged any close questions in his favor, since playing now will help him get to his ceiling sooner.

But the Broncos also are built to win now, and with several outspoken players on a championship-level defense, it would have been hard to go with Lynch if the players regard Siemian as the better option.

While Siemian didn’t do enough last year to take the Super Bowl 50 champions back to the playoffs, upgrades to the offensive line and arguable improvements to the running game could make it easier. There’s also something to be said for experience; Siemian has it, Lynch doesn’t, and now the third-year player from Northwestern will have a chance to put even more distance between himself and Lynch.

And now he was traded as well. Matt Tobin and a 2018 7th round pick to the Seahawks for a 2018 5th round pick.
Sweet because I think he was on the outside looking in the roster battles. Seahawks badly needed another experienced player.
