It's a chance you have to take. Heck NOT bringing it to court could be an admission of guilt. That's an even worse look than your hypothetical on examining his character of likelihood of DV in the future.
I think you work to get the suspension reduced and get something from the league that states you need to be convicted of DV for the lifelong suspension to kick in. It works out positive for Elliott all the way around - It gets him back on the field sooner. It puts a parameter on the potential lifelong ban. It shows that he was willing to fight the suspension because he is innocent. It sets a precedent for the league moving forward, something that he can reference when he gets questioned on why he wanted the inclusion of conviction. It gives him an out for the conversation on DV when he can claim he has no fear of a lifelong suspension being that he signed off on keeping that clause with those parameters set.
They have to give him an appeal. It's in the CBA. They don't have to change anything afterward, but if he asks for an appeal, they have to give it to him.
The Seahawks are keeping the nerve center of their offensive line happy. Center Justin Britt signed a three-year extension Thursday with the Seahawks, the team announced. The pact is worth $27 million, with Britt earning $13.25 in the first year of the new deal, a source informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. It also includes $15 million in guarantees, Rapoport reported. "He has been a fantastic leader for us up there," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said in a statement. "He had an excellent season. He has played three spots for us and started at tackle, guard and center now, and we think he's really in the best spot for him. It's just recognition and acknowledgement of the player and the teammate that he has become for us." A 2014 second-round pick out of Missouri, Britt started 16 games as a rookie at right tackle before bumping down to guard and then center, where he started 15 games a season ago. Offensive line coach Tom Cable gave reporters a window into why Britt was so valuable during an interview two weeks ago.
Bortles troubles Continue... The Blake Bortles era could be on the verge of ending, sooner than later. In a rare nationally-televised night game in Jacksonville, the Jaguars quarterback drew boos during a lackluster performance including an ugly misfire to a wide-open target. Providing an appropriate bookend to an overthrow that drew mutters of profanity from receiver Allen Robinson, Bortles took too much off of the throw, putting it behind him. If Bortles had hit Robinson in stride, he’d possible still be running. The question now becomes whether Bortles, who completed eight of 13 passes for 65 yards, will be sitting. ESPN’s Jon Gruden already has suggested that Chad Henne get some first-team reps so that Bortles can get his mind right, and so that the coaching staff can see what Henne can do. There’s another important reason to park Bortles’ butt on the bench. With more than $19 million in injury-guaranteed salary due for 2018, the Jaguars may want to do with Bortles what Washington did with Robert Griffin III in 2015, putting him in bubble wrap and ensuring that he’ll be healthy enough to pass a physical (and be cut) before his 2018 pay becomes fully guaranteed.
That seems to be the consensus right now. I thought about cutting him loose on my fantasy team, but I wasn't quite sure yet, lol. I guess its possible to have one hell of a lousy Camp and then perform better during the season, but he isn't even close. Got nothing to lose and everything to gain by giving Henne more 1st team reps...
Henne is a bit like Matt Moore. If I had to choose between the two I probably go with Matt but there was a point in time that Henne looked to have a real future and the situation he was in seemed hell bent to destroy that future. Bortles is not the answer and never will be in Jacksonville. A change of scenery might do him good, but call me 'skeptical'.

After a second consecutive mediocre preseason outing from his franchise signal-caller on Thursday night, Jags coach Doug Marrone told reporters that Jacksonville has a quarterback competition on its hands. "It's this simple: I'm looking for the best person to lead this offense," Marrone told reporters, per John Oehser of the team's website. "[The QB position] is right up there for grabs, and either person can take it." Marrone added, on Bortles: "It's not like he's not the quarterback. He's got to go earn it."
The worst part is they'll go through a stoppage (again) and De will still get bent over by Roger (again).
Here's what I'm most looking forward to in tomorrow's Dallas-Indianapolis game: the return of Jaylon Smith. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...mith-will-make-debut-this-week-against-colts/
Center Jeremy Zuttah is back in Baltimore. The Ravens traded Zuttah to the 49ers earlier this year, but Zuttah was cut by the 49ers a little more than a week ago and speculation quickly started about a return to Baltimore. Zuttah, who went to the Pro Bowl last year, visited the Colts as well, but the Ravens announced on Friday that he’s back with the club. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports it is a two-year deal worth $4 million with another $2 million available based on playing time. Wide receiver Kenny Bell was waived/injured in a corresponding move. Zuttah’s arrival gives the Ravens a player familiar with their offense at a moment when they need help on the offensive line. Projected left guard Alex Lewis is out for the year and John Urschel, who was competing to start at center, retired earlier this summer.
