I saw that . also undrafted Justin Currie has looked impressive at safety . anything anyone would be a upgrade over the stiffs that were back there last year . couldn't tackle couldn't cover taking terrible angles constantly out of position ..YUK .
Who is this Richard Mullaney fella ? running great routes getting open and catching everything Kiser threw to him . was he a one game wonder or a WR which we need that can contribute this season . can he push one of the four we drafted last year which face it showed NOTHING .
No doubt in my mind that WR is the weakest position group on this version of the Browns (including tbe QB group). I think its safe to assume that the front office firmly believes that the path to continued success includes finding a QB that can improve the level of play of the WR group. Once that elusive "Franchise QB" is found, then add offensive talent around him. Its kind of a chicken or egg thing. Are these WR's that bad because of the QB play or is the QB not producing because of the shitty WR corp? {edit} Could be both.
Terrelle Pryor w/Cody Kessler: 44 receptions, 523 yards, 4 TDs, 61% catch rate Terrelle Pryor w/o Cody Kessler: 29 receptions, 465 yards, 0 TDs, 48% catch rate
Hum, Terrelle Pryor w/Cody Kessler: 11.9 yards per catch. Terrelle Pryor w/o Cody Kessler: 16.0 yards per catch. Looks like we need to find a QB that can throw deeper.
Yards-per-attempt, when throwing to Pryor: Kessler: 7.6 (4 TDs, 1 INT) McCown: 7.2 (0 TDs, 3 INTs) Griffin: 6.5 (0 TDs, 1 INT) Throwing deep is a great option to have, but it's not a viable approach to a successful offense. Antonio Brown's yards-per-reception was 12.1.
Griffin-Pryor: 6 pass completions over 10 yards, 2 over 20 yards, long 44 McCown-Pryor: 14 pass completions over 10 yards, 4 over 20 yards, long 54 Kessler-Pryor: 17 pass completions over 10 yards, 5 over 20 yards, long 40 Don't you just hate when the narrative doesn't fit the facts?
Yards off Short Throws Griffin: 133, 8.9 per reception McCown: 170, 12.1 per reception Kessler: 365, 11.8 per reception
1. I would say that Pittsburgh has a successful offense. 2. Antonio Brown was drafted in the 6th round, was he not?
And since I'm sure he's lurking... Ben Roethlisberger makes Antonio Brown. It's crazy how an HOF-caliber QB can improve your receiving corp.
Honestly, I think there are a lot of receivers who get left behind simply because of bad QB play...On the reverse, I think there are far less QBs that get left behind due to bad WR play. In most cases, a good QB can find a receiver somewhere on the team, whether it is a WR, TE or RB.
[EDIT] The NFL Wasn't Ready for Jabrill Peppers Good read on Peppers. Would love to believe we got away with one here - the article argues the NFL doesn't do a great job evaluating players overall since so much is spent on how they played their position in college (which Peppers didn't have). I'm guilty of it... I didn't buy the hype early on (article notes McShay had him as the #4 overall prospect as late as December) because of how we're conditioned to watch them play. I figured Peppers would be a mid-second pick and was definitely upset when we got him. Here's hoping he proves me - and a lot of other folks - wrong this season.
Reports out of Berea (Mary Kay Maggot); Joel Bitonio injured in practise. Its not his foot injury from last year resurfacing, its his knee. He's not listed as "day to day" rather, "week to week". Cam Irving also went down with an injury but, who cares? Lastly, Joe Thomas is sitting out PS#2 for "rest". Gents . . . We are about to find out something about our O-line depth against the G-men.
My thoughts exactly when I read that Bitonio and Thomas were out for this game. It will be good to see how Greco is recovering from his injury and find out if there is any depth at tackle. From what I've seen and read Erving couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag.
Great read on Peppers. I believe there's a lot of truth to his falling a bit in the draft because he played so many positions at UofM. But I also think you could just as easily say his fall was caused by the diluted sample. Either way, it worked out great for the Browns, especially if it gives him a chip on his shoulder. He really seems to be coming on strong based on reports out of Berea. I truly believe these young studs on the Browns roster are indeed going to effectively change the culture in Cleveland. Myles Garrett and Jabril Peppers are extremely confident guys that lead by example, and they didn't come here to lose. It feels like the Browns nailed it with both of those picks, but the real key to the massive turnaround we are going to see on defense is an attitude, and that starts with Gregg Williams. That's a great hire. It's been a long time since I've been this excited about the Browns defense...I know they haven't shown anything yet, but there is a different vibe going on with these guys. These dawgs will have bite.
LOL, I agree Stopper that it was an illegal hit and would have been flagged..maybe even flagrant and ejected. The point is, the kids a baller. He put on his helmet and is coming to play. The coaches need to corral him, I agree 100%, but the fact he has that mentality puts him a step above.
