What is that sound steamrolling down the tracks? What is that deep choo-choo screaming louder by the moment? It's the DeShone Kizer Hype Train barreling towards us.

Going to trust someone like Mike Mayock...

... over some NFL writer who casually suggests a QB might get gangrene in a finger. "Ha ha! Suck it, Browns fans!"

Hire Fitzpatrick as assistsnt QB coach to teach our QB room how to study. You can question a lot about Fitz, but he's very intelligent, and prepared we'll.

No need, that's actually DeShone Kizer's specialty. I've read that he has a photographic memory. Get on the train Dvl, the steam is rolling out of the stack...

Although, I have a feeling Osweiler will be a legit option for QB come Week 1..

This coaching staff has made it very clear they don't want their young players learning from veterans - they want them learning from the coaches.

Which is why I used the word assistant QB coach, not a QB. Plenty of coaches were players.

We got the Brockweiller and the Kizer hype train all in the same day. wow....

That's how many hyped QB's we've seen rolling through Cleveland since 99....

I think it's safe to assume Browns fans have seen enough hype video's and articles....We need substance. One of these guys needs to step up Thursday night and grab the reins of this offense...

    @DvlDawg

I could be wrong, but I believe the Browns and McCown parted on good terms - McCown just wanted to keep playing. Maybe he will have a spot on our coaching staff when he hangs them up?

Either would be good choices. They have the mental part down pat.

Is starting Brock legit, or a sales pitch? Who is our week 1 starter?

    Cody Kessler.

The Browns need to develop two things in 2017: the running game, and the run defense. Cody Kessler is a smart, highly-accurate passer who doesn't panic under pressure like Osweiler. No, he doesn't have the strongest arm but that's a moot point when you're distributing the ball well in a run-first offense (think Kansas City).

Alex Smith was 21st in pass attempts... that's right around where Kessler needs to be. The Browns were 11th last year in pass attempts, despite playing many close games. In 2016, if the team went down by 4+ points, they went into pass-only mode. In the second quarter of games last year, Hue dialed up pass plays 71% of the time - that's ridiculous.

@Lyman mentioned this elsewhere, but the Browns invested in the offensive line, drafted a running back, and signed reliable, chain-mover wide receivers. This needs to be a run-first, clock-control style of offense for Cleveland because they are still missing those elite skill positions (WR, TE, RB).

If Hue Jackson wants to come out and throw it 600 times again (567 in 2016) and start Brock Osweiler, that's his call. We'll lose 12+ games doing that and we won't be able to develop a running game or run defense consistently.

I'm not going to jump off a bridge with a Kizer noose tied around my neck, there are still thousands of mistakes to be made by the rookie that will make him Mr. Hyde to last night's Dr. Jekyll...but...at the very least, I think everyone can agree he has earned more reps in practice this week.

Last night showed the difference between Kizer and Kessler SAS...Those two throws were beautiful (as was his 114 QB rating)...Kessler doesn't make those throws. Unfortunately, what I was looking for out of Kessler was a QB that didn't take sacks, move around the pocket better and for God's sake, get rid of the ball sooner...I didn't see it. It's early, and I still like Kessler, I just don't love him anymore, the honeymoon's over and I'm moving onto my younger mistress.

As I said earlier, no jumping just yet...it's one thing to do it against 3rd stringers that won't be on a roster in 3 weeks, quite another to do it against the best the NFL has to offer.

I give Osweiler a pass on this week...with Erving protecting(if you want to call it that) his blind side and Britt underwhelming to the point of costing a TD TWICE in the red zone on the same drive, he got a raw deal this week. He made some really pretty throws as well. I don't see a seasoned veteran starter there, as much as I would like to so Kizer could get a year to acclimate, but I do think he can hold down the fort until Kizer is ready to go.

It is clear by watching the actions/reactions of the 3 QBs though, Kessler is #3 and just a REALLY REALLY good backup. Time to find who the starter is...

Did we watch the same game?

Osweiler: three 3-and-outs, overthrew a receiver seven times, 42.9% completion, 50.3 QB rating

Kessler: only three drives total, more yards and higher completion/rating, touchdown drive

Now, for Kizer... pump the brakes. He looked like a rookie in that game - he threw some beautiful passes, a couple questionable ones early, displayed a big arm but at the same time, we have to all agree that deep ball late doesn't happen against Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, or Baltimore. Well, maybe Baltimore, they're poo.

Do I think Kizer earned more reps and some reps with the ones? Absolutely. I'd like to see Kizer start Week 2, actually, and get to play with the ones for a few series. But Kessler should still be the starter Week 1 of the regular season without even a doubt.

Kizer has the potential to be the quarterback of the future for the Browns. The question is simply how far into the future that is. I would go into the regular season starting Kessler until he's either (1) injured, or (2) completely awful. If Kessler misses time to injury, I still start Osweiler (ugh) over Kizer just because I don't want to rush him. If Kessler is benched due to performance, we're probably looking at a miserable record too, at which point it does make sense to start the rookie and see what he's got.

Kessler took too long to throw(same issue as last year), didn't throw down field(same issue as last year)...I hate to admit it SAS, I wanted Kessler as well. He hasn't changed this off season. He might have strengthened his arm, but it doesn't do us any good if he still checks everything down.

Kizer needs to play, learn, make mistakes against front line players. Playing him against the 3rd/4th string will give him confidence, but he needs to start playing faster. That won't happen against the 3's.

I refuse to say he can't make a throw against those teams..If he doesn't have to avoid the rush, he probably let's it fly sooner allowing the receiver to run under it, instead of adjusting to it. Point is, he can make the throw, the rest is timing.

As for Osweiler, he has the arm, he doesn't have the intuition/smarts. I don't disagree with that...BUT, he is willing to use his tools. Kessler operates like a backup, if he is not going to step forward, then he is relegated to 3rd string until Osweiler is traded/cut, then he will be 2nd string. I don't think it could be more obvious given the reps handed out by Hue. Hue scripted this perfectly..give the vet the first team reps. Give the best backup the 2nd team reps, give the rookie future of the franchise the entire second half to gain confidence...mission accomplished with a win to throw in for good measure.

Next step, get Kizer playing against faster competition, take it slow to let him know and understand he is EARNING the move up from the bottom, not just handed to him.

Last step before naming him starter, give him the most important game of preseason, game 3..first half and come out to start the 3rd Qtr...name him starter after the game if it isn't too big a stage for him...if it is, Hand the ball to the last man standing. If Osweiler can be traded, trade him and start Kessler. If he can't, give him the starter job until Kizer is ready, whether that is game 3 or game 8.
