Wow... you guys are brutal. Hue Jackson on Cody Kessler: "He's everything that I think you look for in a quarterback." Hue Jackson on DeShone Kizer: “He has the measurables... He’s a big, physical quarterback who can make all the throws that I think anybody needs to make in the National Football League. He’s intelligent. So he has the characteristics that we’re looking for.” Hue Jackson on Brock Osweiler: "Obviously, he's a player on our team and we're going to treat him just like we do all of our other quarterbacks until he's not."
Why'd you have to bring K-Ho into this? FWIW... I just assume he either goes by "K-Ho", or his friends call him that.
lol! Will this contraption help Cody pull the freakin trigger? Idk, but it might get him to Hue's magic number.
lol! yep there's that face. What is wrong with him?..He just looks ecstatic to be a part of the Dolphins, doesn't he? smh...
In case you missed it, highlights include: Un-retiring because his wife was "sick of him" Casually joking he doesn't need to be in good "cardiovascular" shape Looking forward to finding the "dinning hall" on Dolphins campus What a turd.
Most folks think we will be right back in the QB hunt in next year's draft...I really hope not. though it doesn't actually say anything about Osweiller in this chart, we can tell you that he does get Hue Jackson's "stamp of approval" in regards to his physical stature...
Okay... here's another in the long list of what won't be my last post on the subject... Cody Kessler: admittedly, is my guy. Cody "gets it" and passes the eyeball test for me. He was thrown into an impossible season as a rookie and performed admirably. He showed me more as a raw rookie than Brock Osweiler did as a 'seasoned' veteran (consider his rating as a starter is 77.4 with Super Bowl caliber rosters whereas Kessler posted 92.3 with a 1-15 team). He gets knocked for size and arm strength - fine. If Tom Brady the prospect were draft-eligible, he'd struggle to make a training camp today. Let's see what he's got before flushing him out. DeShone Kizer: admittedly, one of my least-favorite QB prospects in this most recent, and much-maligned QB class. That said, I like what he brings to the table from a raw tools standpoint - size, good arm, average mobility, young. I think with a few seasons of good coaching and direction, he has the potential to develop into a very nice QB. I'd prefer to see one Browns QB play out his rookie contract before moving onto the next, so let's see how Kessler performs. At the absolute worst he's keeping the seat warm for Kizer. Brock Osweiler: is without hope or agenda a horrific NFL quarterback. As previously mentioned, he was perfectly positioned in two organizations to win Super Bowls and flopped. In fact, the team who drafted him - and an AFC contender - let him walk without hesitation. The team that signed him to a tremendous deal - and an AFC contender - paid another team to take him off their hands. Is he 6'7"? Yeah, so what? There's never been a successful NFL quarterback over 6'6" - and I'd argue, 6'5" since Joe Flacco (the only 6'6" QB to start and win a Super Bowl) is pretty mediocre. People who study QB's will say the same thing. "You name it, Osweiler hasn't got it."
Mary "Ambulance Chaser" Kay over at the PD reports that Osweiler was named the starter for the first preseason game. And as much as Mary Kay would like to have us believe that he's got a leg up on Kessler and Kizer, you have to believe that this is only a "runway walk" so that other teams can get a look at him before coughing up a draft pick for him when/if they lose a QB this preseason. Just a few snippets of her QB doom and gloom as she gushes all over Brock's jock: * Osweiler has looked good in the past four days of camp, especially during Friday's Orange and Brown scrimmage at FirstEnergy Stadium. Working with the second-team offense, he put two field goals on the board -- against the first-team defense. * Osweiler's mechanics have improved under Hue Jackson and QB coach David Lee, and the game continues to slow down for him. * If Kizer demonstrates that he's not ready to start, Osweiler would be an obvious choice because of his experience. He's the only quarterback on the roster to have won an NFL game, going 5-2 with the Broncos and 8-6 with the Texans. * Osweiler starting the first preseason game doesn't bode well for Kessler starting the opener. * Kessler has had a rough preseason, taking too many sacks in his two-minute drills and failing to put points on the board on the second-team defense -- despite the fact he was working with the starters. * Kessler failing to score on the backups is worse than Kizer doing the same, because Kessler started eight games last year and should've taken a big leap this year. * But the demotion of Kessler could mean that it's essentially between Osweiler and Kizer for the opening-day start -- unless the Browns trade Osweiler. * Kessler, the original man to beat in this competition, could get fewer first-team reps beginning today.
I am having a really hard time deciphering anything to do with Cleveland Browns QBs... On one hand, I am hearing everyone wants them to march Osweiler out there to showcase him to other teams, on the other hand I am hearing everyone say there is absolutely NOTHING to showcase from him...Wouldn't that be detrimental to the case of trading him then? In actual side by side comparisons, Osweiler has actually done a pretty nice job thus far in training camp. By most accounts, Kessler definitely has not and Kizer has shown brilliance on about 5% of the plays and really bad rookie the rest of the time. I have stated (and most agreed) I want the best option to start against Pittsburgh Sept. 10th...right now, I am leaning towards the $16M man. I am not saying that can't/won't change drastically over the coming 4 weeks, or at any point beyond Sept. 10th. What I am saying is on August 8th, from what has been reported from training camp, Brock Osweiler should be the guy to start, because he has shown the most thus far. NOW, I certainly hope the other two get their shit together, because I don't believe for a second Osweiler is anywhere in the future of the Cleveland Browns and the sooner we move on from him the better...but if we have ANY CHANCE of beating Pittsburgh on Sept 10th, the man that gives us the best chance is the one I want behind JC Tretter taking the ball from under his ass. We will get a MUCH better picture of who is actually running the system better in the coming weeks, and the only reason why preseason football matters to organizations like the Browns...I can't wait until preseason is a complete waste of time and resources...
For what its worth, Irish . . . In Hue's daily training camp presser on Monday(?), he urged the click mongers NOT to read too much into his choice to start Brock on Thursday. He went on to explain it had more to do with getting an apples to apples comparison as Brock hadn't taken a single rep with the 1's where Kessler and Kiser had. There may be more to it than that but, we will never know.
Irish- I don't think anything of Brock starting. He was just the "throw-in" in a trade to get a draft pick and simply trade bait to get whatever they can for him. Basically the starters get a couple of series and then get pulled. Everyone knows what Brock can do. If he goes out and puts on a good show, maybe his stock goes up slightly and the Browns get what they ask for in a trade. Maybe some dumb GM will get it in his head that Hue worked his wonders on him. If he doesn't do well, then he is still worth what everyone thinks he's worth. Kind of a win/win situation if he does well. And an even/win situation if he doesn't. Since he gets yanked early with the starters, Kessler and Kizer will get most of the reps in live action, which they both need more than Osweiler. At this point, I think whoever they are leaning towards for our starting QB needs more reps in preseason games. If I had to make a prediction: If nobody trades for Osweiler, he gets cut and they keep Hogan......ahem....I mean K'Ho (patent pending by SAS Ltd and all subsidiaries ).
The scrimmage was very bland. I'm not sure what to make of it either, Irish. I expect the Browns to attack a weak Saints D on Thursday night. Honestly, that should be a good test. If we can't move the chains on the Saints, then concerns certainly will be warranted. I'm with ya. I just want to win games. If Brock is the best we got, then he deserves the nod. It's as simple as that. Though it doesn't leave me feeling overly warm and fuzzy about our chances... I am REALLY hoping to see Kizer step up and make some plays down the field. If the running game clicks as it should, there's no reason why some vertical strikes can't make us all feel a helluva lot better about our QB situation....
I don't think ANY team would up their ante in a trade for Brock based on how he does in a few series in the 1st pre-season game. They all have a season's worth of tape on him in live, meaningful NFL games.
Which begs to the phrase...."Dare to be different" Why in the holy hell do teams with such a young roster treat these games the same way as the returning Super Bowl opponents do? In a situation like the Browns, who had 1,000 more rookie snaps in the NFL in 2016 than any other team...and added MORE youth to the starting lineup in 2017, why wouldn't they treat this as a learning curve tool and play the damn players? I would rather get a head start on them learning what they need to learn in what is most probably another throw away season and have them learn against vanilla teams, so that they are ready for the season to come. If they start puttering out around week 10, who the hell cares? Does it matter if they sacrifice wins in week 1-4, rather than 12-16? If they need to learn, put them on the field in preseason, teach them when we REALLY don't care at all if they win or lose and get them ready to be successful players in this league. I really have never understood how taking a rookie out with the rest of the veterans in preseason helps him develop. Injury risk is not an excuse. If he doesn't learn properly, he can just as easily get injured in the first few weeks of the regular season when all teams give a crap...and you haven't gained a thing. If they have identified Kizer as the potential week one starter, then start the kid every preseason game...work him the first few series with the veterans, then let them leave if that's what you want to do. Then work him with the replacement second team for the rest of the half..THEN you can give Osweiler his snaps coming out of the half, along with Kessler... If it's Kessler who is the starter in waiting, give HIM the first half. Give them the reps that veterans have already had in their life to get them up to par. Taking them out at the same time Tom Brady comes out of preseason is asinine. I will NEVER understand the thinking here.
