Joe Flacco (back) preparing to miss 3-6 weeks

Ravens camp will begin without the team's quarterback. Joe Flacco will miss the first week of Baltimore's camp and is preparing to miss three to six weeks, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

  2. So who here wants to see Kaep get signed by Baltimore? I've been seeing a lot of negative posts here and other sites (even Yahoo! Sports). I really don't get the hate. I mean, Michael Vick did some pretty horrific stuff and came back to Philly and eventually was accepted by the NFL base. We know Donte Stallworth's story. Jamal Lewis. Ricky Williams open advocacy and use of pot. Not to mention all those other players that committed DV and still were allowed to play. Granted his rep was never the same, but all Kaep did was protest. So when is exercising your 1st Amendment rights a crime? When is calling attention to police violence against black Americans a crime? How does this get equivocated to manslaughter or animal cruelty? What he did is not even anti-American.

My only concern is whether he will be a better back up than what we have. I think he is. And all this garbage of Biscotti asking fans to pray for the team is silly beyond anything I've ever heard coming out of the F.O.

In this country, if you do something that gets called "unamerican" then many fake patriots will basically wish death upon you. It also doesn't help that his protest is about equal rights for minorities. I expect flack for that comment, but it's true. Had Kaepernick protested in the same way for animal rights, specifically dogs, I'm fairly confident he'd have less people wishing him dead than he does now.

"We" can forgive people accused of rape multiple times, "we" can forgive drunk drivers who killed people, "we" can forgive guys who beat their wives or girlfriends to a blood pulp, but in no way can "we" forgive someone not standing for a song.

    I find it crazy that:
    1. the talking heads are telling the Ravens what they should do with their roster (sign Kaepernick etc..). It is Ozzie and Bisciotti's decision so who cares why they decide not to bring someone in.
    2. I thought all the people who are now clamoring for the Ravens to sign Kaepernick were the same group that were pointing an laughing just a few weeks ago that they have no money to spend on any additional free agents? If the Ravens are in salary cap "jail" why is there an expectation that we would go through a huge re-arranging of salary money and cutting players just for the "experiment" of bringing in Kaepernick "in case" Joe's back is not going to clear up?
    3. They have way more pressing needs to do the above mentioned rearranging for O Line, corner and potentially RB before I would even think of bringing in another veteran higher priced QB

These talking neck holes are making me crazy with the talk that the Ravens are the sole reason Kaep is not in the league and this is his only hope to have a job. I would point out at least 3 other teams with QB situations warranting a Kaep signing before I would bring up the Ravens. Namely, the Rams, Jets, Texans, and Jags.

    "For a song"?

That "song" is our National Anthem! Many people have lost their lives over "that song". "That song" represents a country that allows people to peacefully protest.

In other words, he chose to protest by disrespecting a symbol of the very country that gives him the right to protest.

He didn't choose to disrespect anything. And when he was told he was being disrespectful for sitting, he met with an actual veteran and came up with a different way that's more respectful (kneeling). The amount of veterans that support him is overwhelming in contrast to those who say he's being disrespectful to them, to they point they signed petitions in support.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...supporting-colin-kaepernicks-right-to-protest

Plus, for some reason, nobody ever wants to talk about all the verses of the song. It was never written for all mankind. So all mankind isn't obligated to treat it as some sacred thing.

A country founded on violent protest wants to demonize a man for a peaceful protest. A country that promotes all these rights wants to pick and choose how someone can express those rights. If anything, what Kaepernick is doing is far more American than those wishing he'd stop.

And the fact his form of protest has seen far more attention than his reason for protest will always fascinate me. Then again, when the Rams players came out of the tunnel with their hands up, it was deemed as wrong. When LeBron wore an "I can't breathe" shirt, it was deemed wrong. It seems every form of protest shinning a light on the inequalities in the U.S. is overall deemed wrong, usually by the demographic the inequalities don't affect.

Honestly, the Ravens put themselves in that position. The front office simply handled it poorly. Baltimore is not the first team to look at Kaepernick, but for some reason we made the biggest deal out of it. Biscotti having that interview and announcing that he spoke to sponsors, polled fans, called Ray Lewis, etc brought far more attention to it than necessary. Pete Carroll and Sean Payton didn't do all that when they talked to him and they didn't receive much backlash at all.

Then to go on press conference and talk about how they were interested, and Collin was interested, and then sign some random QB but they're still interested, all looks bad when whatever leak comes out saying John and Ozzie were interested and Steve himself is blocking it. Sad to say, the front office made a media circus around Kaepernick without even signing him. Now it'll continue. Ray Lewis is going around talking about it, so it won't die out until Joe is back practicing or someone else brings him in

EDIT: I do agree that we don't really have the cap space for Kap, or any other backup QB at this point. And with all these injuries, especially to the o-line, it wouldn't make sense to go after a QB first

In every country on earth, its residents (and visitors) show respect for that country by standing (not kneeling) during the playing of that country's national anthem. He CHOSE not to stand during the playing of OUR country's national anthem.

Whoopdee Do! He met with a veteran. He did not meet with THIS veteran nor with the hundreds of thousands of other veterans (who, by the way are more than likely to be fans of sport).

He could have chosen any number of ways to protest that would not have disrespected my country (and I'm assuming you country, as well) and still got his message across. Probably in a far far more effective manner.

Specific to being at a sporting event though, right? If I have the game on and I'm sitting at home, nobody will be mad. If I'm at the game, I can be doing anything so long as a cameras not on me. Speaking of which, nobody ever gets upset with the cameramen that are still working as opposed to stopping for the anthem. Hell, nobody was mad at players pre-2009 when they were in the locker room paying no attention to the anthem. Nobody even seems mad that the NFL is only showing players standing because they were paid for it.

I appreciate your service and respect it dearly. And I may be off on this assumption, but I'd assume you defended the rights of people and not just their rights when they execute them in a way deemed acceptable. The argument for the right to bear arms has people fighting a distinction between carrying a glock 9 and an M249 LMG. The right of freedom of speech and freedom of protest should include speech and protest we don't like, shouldn't it?

As mentioned previously with LeBron and the Rams players, athletes/people have protested the same things in different ways that don't involve the anthem and still received the same disapproval.

Besides, history has shown it's about more than just standing. Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf used to stand for the anthem, but he stood and prayed with his head down (like many still do to this day). But because was outspoken about his issue with the oppression in America (only after being asked by reports, same as Collin), he was traded, benched, and couldn't even get a tryout with any team after his contract expired. Definitely can't blame it on his skill level or age at the time. There has not been one form of protest about oppression of minorities in this country that was deemed acceptable.

  10. This is the type of singular point of view that polarize this country. "It can only be one way - MY way! And I speak for the rest of the country!" It's a song. A soldier doesn't swear an oath to stand up for a song. The fact that Kaep did choose to recognize the anthem in another way, by kneeling, is his right. People have the right to burn the flag in protest. People have butchered the Anthem for less. Remember Rosanne Barr's rendition? Ugh. And what about Jimi Hendrick's version? That caught a ton of flack as a protest song and now it's a classic embraced by nearly all of Americans.

Kaep isn't shouting "Down with America!", the flag or the anthem. He is drawing attention to the unfair treatment of minorities by the police in a country who's ideals of equality fall sickeningly short in its actions. Something that even our POTUS seems to be condoning in our police forces. In fact, if people take Collin's message to heart instead of resist it out of hand, the changes that are needed in this country to repair relations with minority communities and law enforcement would get better. Resisting or not acknowledging the disparity of treatment by booing the man doesn't help the matter.

And because it is unpopular and inconvenient for the majority of Americans to see, AND because it has come at the expense of his own persecution, that makes him much more of a humanitarian than any has given him credit for. Self sacrifice (and not the jihadist kind) is the sign of those that are strong enough to endure for their cause.

All that said, I don't think he's even that great of a QB.

  12. Cap for Kaep would be an issue for sure. He's certainly compete for b/u against Mallet who's making $2M with $1M guaranteed. He really doesn't make any sense unless he seriously outperforms Mallet and takes close to the vet minimum.

With the way our o-line is shaping up, we may very well need a scrambling QB back there if Joe misses time. I've seen an argument about not being able to cater to a different type of QB, but I think people that made that argument forget how long Tyrod Taylor, and Troy Smith, were Flacco's backups.

EDIT: I still don't think Kaepernick takes the veteran minimum so it's very, very, unlikely he comes to Baltimore unless Flacco is set to be out longer than stated

He might not have to accept the vet minimum depending on how bad Tannehill is injured.

  15. ravens_R_#1 Legend Ravens

Yeah, speculation yesterday was that Tannehill likely misses the entire season. I think I read somewhere that they were looking at Cutler though

Latest info on Tannehill is that the MRI showed no structural damage. He may opt to get second opinion but it now looks like he will be under center probably for week 1.

You guys are still in play for Kaep!!!

here is the latest from ProFootballtalk:

"Optimism seems to be in short supply regarding the injured knee of quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

According to Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington of ESPN.com, the Dolphins believe that Tannehill will need season-ending surgery to repair his knee, which was injured during practice on Thursday.

MRI results have been inconclusive and additional opinions are still being sought before determining a course of action.

“A ticking time bomb that was going to go off at any time” was an anonymous quote cited in the story describing the state of Tannehill’s knee.

Tannehill sustained a partial tear to his ACL last year and did not have the injury addressed surgically at the time. Per ESPN, Tannehill’s other option besides surgery now would be to rest the injury for six weeks and see if he would be in a position to return at that point.

It seems inevitable that Tannehill is going to miss significant time in the very least."
