Toronto and SSK was a good football game, but the Calgary and Hamilton game was over after the 1st quarter. I watched all of the SSK and Tor game but turned off the Hamilton game... 0-5 now and around 89 points for the season on offense, that's pretty bad & sad.

It's not just that, over the last forever seasons, even when they won the conference they were always choking games in the last few minutes, even when leading the whole game. It happen last week Vs the undefeated Eskimos too. The sad thing about the East and why nothing might happen with the coach soon is the Hamilton is less than 2 games back of 2nd place, a playoff spot since Montreal is 2-4 and Toronto is 1-4-1. Hamilton is 0-5.

^^with the Flyers possibly playing 6-7 rookies this year, their camp should be very interesting to see how actually makes the team or not ?? Lord knows they need the help !

Red Wings also will be giving some long hard looks at the youth to see what they can do with depth. 3rd and 4th lines are a must in todays game... don't win playoff series without depth.

3rd and 4tth lines are a must unless you are stacked on the top 2 and continually replace people on the 3rd and 4th lines as their contracts are up.

Good question. I'm not sure if they even know, I know I don't. I'm hearing they are still shopping Mrazek and that Howard will be the #1. I think they are basically screwed and are going with the roster they have now and hoping for the best from what they got... they are really counting on bounce-back years by Larkin, AA, Sheahan and the gang. In other words they are going to be cap strapped for the remainder and ride it out.

What in your opinion can a team like them do? I'm not real savy on these things to be perfectly honest. They cant bring in any available FA's, but the best thing would be production from what they have, I guess.

I think it's going to be very difficult for the Wings to show much progress (toward returning to the playoffs) if they ice the roster they have on paper right now. They're somewhat hogtied due to the cap. It takes two teams, (or sometimes three) teams to make a trade and given the nature of the goalie market, well ... well, good luck with that.

I think Holland is going to have to induce another GM to take Mrazek. It's not that he sucks so much as the goalie market sucks for sellers. Therefore, I think they have to bite the bullet and package one of their excellent wingers together with the unwanted contract and not expect "fair value" in return. I know the Wings are desperate for D and it may not be a top four guy coming back. Hopefully, they will, at least, find a way to obtain a young blueliner that might develop in to a top-four role.

In the end, I think they may need to take this in stages - obtain a lot more cap flexibility in the trade scenario above, and then move on a more established d-man when the opportunity arises. The new GM in Buffalo has proven through two shrewd trades that it is possible to greatly improve D in the modern NHL - as long as you are not insisting on a star.
