MLB - NEWS & NOTES

I think swinging in that abnormal trying to crush a home run every swing approach required by the Derby could definitely have some carryover. Hitting a big league pitcher is incredibly hard, anything that throws off your normal approach I could defintiely see causing a problem. I can remember years where Papi and Adrian Gonzalez were absolute messes at the plate for awhile after participating in the Derby.

Not saying that's definitely what's going on with Judge - as we've previously discussed he was due for a regression - but I don't think it's completely implausible, either.

yanks and white sox in mega 7 player deal with todd frazier leading the way to NY...

Previous deals and desire to stay under the tax threshold definitely hurt the Sox here...Frazier helps NYY given their 1B situation has been about as bad as our 3B, but adding Robertson and Kahnle to their bullpen is huge. If the Sox could've pulled Kahnle I would've been fine paying the tax, but not enough prospects left to make that deal.

D'backs straight stole JD Martinez from Detroit, tho.

    I'm still pissed!

I was never a sell, sell, sell person either. The Tigers are in the middle of a Divisional race and are in the process of blowing the team up... it makes zero sense. I blame Al Avila... he sucks for lack of another term.

Probably would've been better off letting him go in FA and taking the comp pick, honestly.

the Red Sox wanted Frazier too. I don't know how they let the Yankees get him and the relievers. If I'm Boston, I give the Chi Sox whatever they wanted for him because they needed him and to stop the Yankees from getting him !

As I mentioned earlier, the problems were 1) they don't want to go over the tax threshold (which would've happened if they took Robertson's salary along with Frazier's), and 2) because of the Kimbrel, Pomeranz, Sale, and Thornburg trades, they no longer have the prospect capital to compete with the Yankees on a deal like this...even if they decided to pay the tax, they couldn't've beaten the Yankees' offer without having to give up Devers or Groome, and that's not happening.

They're still in first, and there's still a handful of guys they could go after to try and upgrade 3B (I mean the fact that Frazier represents an upgrade while barely hitting .200 says a lot...is he really way better than a guy like Eduardo Nunez or David Freese or Martin Prado at this point that they should've overpaid for him? Don't think so). They also just got Brock Holt back, so that should help a bit...at least until he gets hurt again lol.

good points u dog. the yanks by trading chapman and miller got 9 prospects in return and moved their weak farm system from the late 20's to the top 4! they have plenty to move around. smart baseball moves there. lay in the weeds and strike while your enemy is reloading...haha.

    i don't think they're done yet either...

should be a fun run to the trade deadline date.

Topps has eliminated Chief Wahoo from both new and throwback card?designs

Today there?s an interesting post, pointing out something most of us wouldn?t have otherwise noted: Topps has dropped Chief Wahoo from Indians card designs. They?re doing it for the old Braves ?screaming Indian? logo as well, though the Braves no longer use that themselves.

They?re not airbrushing these logos out of photos of players ? that would be Orwellian even for my?extreme Wahoo-hating tastes ? but in card designs which have team logos, Topps is using the block-C logo, not Wahoo, and the Braves ?A? logo in place of the old logo. This includes throwback issues like the Heritage sets which put modern players on card designs from the 1950s-1960s and on simple retro designs like their 1987 variations. Any cards which once featured Wahoo on the border or on the back now features the block-C.

As you may or may not know, Topps is now the official card producer for Major League Baseball. As such, I take their doing this as a sign that MLB is continuing the slow process of de-Chiefing in whatever areas it has ultimate say.

I disagree with Topps. I disagree that the Indians logo's are wrong. Its not offensive and people are just going to find something to bitch about.

'Tis a slippery slope...eventually they'll go after the Padres for being an endorsement of religion and the Pirates for glorifying crime and violence and the Diamondbacks because hey some people might be afraid of poisonous snakes don'tcha know and well we can't call a team the Athletics because that might make unathletic people feel bad about themselves.

    People are fucking stupid.

Price is the bad guy. Eck is honest and doesn't pull any punches, but he's not over-the-top in any way, shape, or form, either. He's a damn good analyst. Bunch of panty-waists with sand in their vags on that team.

If Price had an issue with something Eck said, he should've been a man and talked to him about it directly...yelling and cursing at him on a team flight is pathetic. And the only thing worse is the pathetic losers that applauded. Grow the F up, Red Sox.
