The linebacking class for 2017 is one of the more interesting that I have scouted and I believe there is starting talent at least 10 players deep in this class. Which player or players will have the best career out of that 10 is a truly great question and since I’m still reviewing this class I decided to take this year’s initial segment for LBs in another direction.
I first was emailed a rumor regarding Raekwon McMillan being looked at in the first round near the end of February. Since then, it’s something that I have heard from multiple sources and team names have started being attached. The one that has the strongest connections so far would be to the Pittsburgh Steelers and it does make a good deal of sense.
Starting ILB, Lawrence Timmons went to Miami in free agency opening up a hole in the defense. It’s possible that the Steelers will be comfortable going forward with Vince Williams and look to add depth to the position at another point in the draft, but although Williams is sound against the run and adequate against the pass he is not the rangy, athletic style of linebacker that head coach Mike Tomlin prefers at the position. There’s also the constant concern of Ryan Shazier being able to stay healthy and on the field.
You can mark this down as a draft rumor that we consider solid given our source and the team situation.
