Tony Stewart‘s efforts in sprint car racing continue to grow.
Stewart, already the owner of the beloved Eldora Speedway and a World of Outlaws team that features series champion Donny Schatz and legend Steve Kinser, has acquired the All-Star Circuit of Champions from its former owner, Guy Webb.
Additionally, Stewart has reached separate terms with principal owners of the Renegade Sprint Series. As a result, the Renegade and All-Star drivers will unite under the All-Star banner in 2015 and compete in a 50-race schedule.
“My passion for sprint car racing is well known, and the All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series has been a pillar of the sport for a long time,” Stewart said in a release. “Racing is my business, and I look forward to building on the All Star Series’ already impressive legacy by taking it to a new level of success and sustainability.”
It’s a sign that such passion still endures for Stewart despite his 2013 season-ending crash and his involvement last year in an accident that killed 20-year-old competitor Kevin Ward Jr.; a grand jury ultimately cleared Stewart of any charges from the incident.
In an interview with PennLive.com’s Jeremy Elliott about the purchase, Stewart says it will allow him to further his involvement with the sport he loves so much.
“I can go to more races and be passionate. I would like nothing more than to be in the seat, but that won’t happen for some time,” said Stewart. “This allows me to be around it, and that is a product of doing something with these guys and it fills a void.”
