Sad to say, the league stinks. I love me some football, but the product has been in decline for a while now.
The league has a solution. Expand to 40 teams!
It's all Roger Goodell's fault
It's only going to get worse, unless they upgrade equipment. Too many players are becoming conscious about head injuries and it is only going to get worse, from high school on up the ladder to the NFL. They need to figure out how to play this game while limiting concussions. I have a 5th grader, on his team this season (8 games) there were 9 concussions...That's too many for kids that age.
They need to use their profits to come up with absorbing head gear..the plastic helmet is way overdue for an upgrade.
ive helped coach at the hs level for the past 7 yrs and kids get knocked out every weekend. equipment definitely needs upgrades but technique needs taught. coaches need to be tested and mandatory camps for coaches. some position coaches teach bad form because they don't know the proper.
Contraction is the way to go.
Screw that. Take away their helmets and reduce the size of their shoulder pads, then people will stop leading with their upper bodies. You don't see nearly the head injuries in rugby as you do football. It's because players take their "protection" too seriously.
Someone actually had a post on this subject the other day, I wish I could credit the right person...but it showed where some teams are starting to teach rugby style tackling...
It was from a CBS article. It's a pretty good read for anyone that is interested -
jags rally to beat Titans...
I find average teams fun to watch when there is a battle for the playoffs and the Divisional title at steak.
The Jags almost paid the price for being conservative. It was 4th and half a yard and Tennessee had no timeouts. A first down brings it to the 2-minute warning and sends the Jags into victory formation. Instead they kick the field goal to go up 6 points. Now this was a very stupid call. The Titans got within striking distance and almost won the game. The Jags almost lost the game because they wanted to avoid a FG that could bring it to overtime. Going for the win on half a yard and at worst going to OT being the difference is way better than kicking the FG and giving the Titans a full 2:22 minutes. The Eagles lost like that before and the Jags almost did as well.
Hard to believe that the Jaguars are in first place in the AFCS.
It's hard to believe because it's false. They have an extra loss.
My bad, I thought they were 5-5
I just don't see that as a viable option. How many times have you seen a guy take a knee to the head or watch their head snap back on the field.
Wow, scary to think that my Falcons (who play the Colts this weekend) might help propel the Jaguars into the division lead.
Atlanta will have to wake up and stop shooting themselves in the foot (maybe they practiced snapping the ball during the bye week), but they're coming into this one a lot healthier than their last several games. Only one player on the injury report is listed as OUT.
If you think that guys are going to play the same way if you do this, then you're just not really with it. Go watch rugby, all day long, then tell me how many "knees to the head" or "heads snap back" that you see. The answer will likely be zero.
They give these guys more and more technology to "keep them safe" and they turn them into weapons and use them improperly.
If you're kid keeps jumping off a trampoline and hurting him/herself, do you buy them a bigger, better trampoline? No, you take the f'ing thing away before you have a dead pile of kid. Seems pretty simple.
I've never met an old timer, leather helmet player with concussion issues. That didn't start happening until the helmet was "improved".
